If you ever do a similar project with a lot of harness or tack work, try using 3D fabric paint, and running a bead along the edges of the leather pieces. Makes them look rounded, like a thicker piece of material. Helps the realism and scale a bit.

Thank you, I have already made hames for the collar but am having a mental block about the leather, cushioned part, I already have all the breaching and rollers and girths so I was really happy to find you for inspiration. I subscribed. I love the decorative elements on the collar, I am making two in 18th scale and if it comes out ok I'll post it on Facebook and tag you. (I will let you know where when I do it). Thanks again for the great ideas, you know what its like when your mind just goes blank lol! I can't wait to get them done!
I just bought everything and decided to watch this again and am like duhhhhhh I forgot the roll of leather for the lines and straps! I was to excited about getting a glue gun I guess.
It looks great, truly a masterpiece! If I tried doing this it would end up looking like a childs scribble (not that their scribbles are bad), also does the horses have any names? (just curious, it would be a little funny if they got names)

Awesome, you should totally go for it! I think the most expensive part is the leather cord but it's so worth it.

Aw thank you! Don't underestimate yourself! And I named one Eclair but I can't think of a good name for the other.
You could name the other horse Calomay, I feel like it's a good name

What kind of leather do you use?
For the collars it's a generic black vinyl from the fabric store, I think it's realeather brand, the cord is definitely that brand.
