7:21 "tired" (of rebuilding) ... it's so cool looking back at her videos and seeing this new perspective, like how they both laugh after she slips in "tired". I just imagine him sitting there watching her tune herself and do a couple takes before she was satisfied with the lyric, and their laughter takes on new meaning.
at 7:21 you can hear dodie saying "tired", a word which she later uses in "Arms Unfolding". I find it funny that she and her friend shared a laugh afterwards, knowing why she said it that way.
I couldn't hear it over my shoes, which I'd tossed in my washing machine heart. They really banged it up inside. (I'm sorry hopefully there are some Mitski fans reading this reply to a comment two years after this video came out akfkakfkskf)
The fluff on the microphone is all I want. Seriously... how are you not distracted by that?!?! Sees Dodie’s fluffy outfit near the end: SHE LOOKS LIKE A SHY MARSHMALLOW AND I LOVE IT
I was thoroughly entertained by this video considering the fact that I was having a debate in the comments section of your last video about whether or not the audio was prerecorded. Audio is almost always prerecorded, lads, unless it specifically says live. It's not a bad thing!
7:05 I think after listening to thousands of different songs and playing instruments and ESPECIALLY singing in choirs/singing groups, your brain remembers what harmonies sound good and you can anticipate it more. I sometimes attempt to harmonise when I'm singing along to the radio now, and I only knew how to do it after being an alto in choir for like 2 years lol. I love when they actually work(which isn't always) :D
You're me with the harmonies😂 I was always so impressed by one of my friends being able to write harmonies by ear and then I tried it myself and was so fucking impressed when I could do it😅
i kinda love low key videos like this because they are the most natural and it’s like you’re just sitting next to me and chatting and singing g00d shit
omg dodie you put sooo much effort into your music. and i thought that the harmonies were kinda like just a simple process, but i was absolutely utterly wrong. and i just think its amazing how dedicated you are, and i am extremelly thankfull for all that. love ya
it was logic pro x but you need a mac to doenload the software 😭 it's really easy to use and get the hang of though, if you do use it, and one of the best editing softwares to use (so I've found)
Gosh, it's now lunchtime and I've been watching your videos most of the morning. What is it that's so compelling about them? Erm, I think it's your 1. personality and 2. your absolute fearlessness at doing you and putting that out there. There's a vulnerability about it that's so refreshing. You're helping so many people I'm quite sure, least of all me and you're helping me rather a lot. Thank you!
For the latency thing, try going into Preferences -> Audio (is it?) and making the "buffer size" smaller! It's protocol for recording and monitoring, and do the opposite if you're only editing and stuff.
Hey Dodie! To fix the latency issues with your mic, you have to go into your logic preferences and change the buffer size to the smallest one (make sure all your other apps/ programs are closed as well). This allows your computer to dedicate all it's power to your recording, and you get no latency! Also, when mixing, turn your buffer size up, as you don't need to hear everything in real time, and your computer won't choke/slow down when you add plugins/effects!
That was super interesting, and you really have a talent for harmonies! I'd love to see more behind the scenes like this one By the way, about the madrigal-inspired version of Deck the Halls not being exactly in D major, back in the Renaissance and Baroque periods the tuning was different from the modern one and it was not standardized, so I'd say you're pretty much justified!
This makes me so happy. No one ever usually shows what the recording process is like (even for something like a TH-cam video). It’s nice to get to see all the work that’s put into this rather than just showing the shiny finished product. It feels more real that way.
t hw dentists took ym wisdome teeth out yesterday and this isbthebmost sober ive bene from drugs which is the most painfuk thing but dodie truly msked everything betyer
This is so cute! I remember when my best friend in the world had her wisdom teeth (idiotic name for such a dumb tooth) removed and she sounded exactly like this comment. Also her milky white skin turned so many pretty colours, hopefully yours isn't too bad. Also hope you feel a bit better soon and if I may give my own bit of advice: this is quite a unique human experience, there aren't many times you'll feel like this in life so try to... experience it rather than wishing it away? I find doing this can help me through the other difficult human experiences. You only get to experience a single human lifespan, what's the use of wishing any of it away? Thanks for coming to my TED talk haha
To fix your latency issues: Go into preferences (top left), Audio, then click Devices Change your “buffer size” to something lower than it currently is Basically the way it works is that the lower it is the harder your computer has to work but the less delay there will be between the input and playback. The better your audio interface and PC, the lower it will go. If you’re using the built in audio output then you won’t be able to set it that low :( Hope that helped :)
Hi Dodie, I don't know why I'm saying hi since you most likely won't see this but I still wanted to thank you for posting content and working so hard. You inspired me to actually learn to play the ukulele and since then I've had so much fun with it and it's just made a small -but meaningful- improvement to my life! I love all your songs and I wish you the best in 2019 :)
