HOLDEN COLORADO replace SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER

  • If you are experiencing any king of noise or squeak coming from the serpentine belt of your Holden Colorado, there is a good chance it is caused by the serpentine belt tensioner or a combination of a stretched / worn serpentine belt AND a tensioner that is on it's way out.
    The tensioner is a combination pulley/spring setup that is replaced as one unit. It's a generally accepted idea that if you are changing out the serpentine belt on the Holden Colorado, that changing out the tensioner is also advisable, since they seem to have a similar life span (and you're already changing the belt, so it's easy to do them both at the same time).

    Mate, good video, parts cost me $250, saved me $100’s over all. Just had to cut some of the plastic tabs off the fan cowl to allow access. The restricted access in general made things difficult especially locating the new tensioner but didn’t take too long in the end

      Awesome mate, much cheaper than letting the dealership do it.

    For those wanting to change just the belt on a U.S. colorado(2017), use a 1/2" ratchet with a 2" extension and a pipe or big wrench for the handle for leverage. The tensioner is located on the passenger side top of the motor. Looking at the windshield from the front bumper, you turn it counter clockwise to release the tension. Might want help if you're not that strong or nimble.

    Great video! Need to work out what is rattling horrendously under my bonnet so now I can check myself. Thanks.

    Note that the 2 pulleys above the water pump are secured by Left hand threaded bolts so you have to turn them right to loosen them off.
    If ordering online make sure that you have been supplied with the correct belt because I ordered a kit for my father online on eBay where the seller supplied us with a 6PK2825 Dayco Serpentine belt which is too short so it didn't fit so today I have to order the correct length 6PK2870 belt.
    I was up early this morning & I folded the old belt in half, stretched it out & measured it at 1430 Millimetres so I doubled that to get a 2860 millimetre measurements so the 6PK2870 belt is the one for the Colorado !

    Just been searching for an answer came across Theo’s video, well represented and explained for anyone doing this themselves 👍🏼👍🏼
    but I didn’t find the answer I was looking for.
    Question. What is the torque for the bolt that holds the tensioner in place, I heard do it up right but no mention of actual tension, as I’m sure everyone’s tight is different lol.

    Don’t use torque wrenches to crack bolts if you want your torque wrench to be properly aligned

    • @jaycob4972
      @jaycob4972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So he never told you to use a torque to crack anything.
      He said if you need leverage you can use the torque wrench to release the belt from the the tensioner

      yeah for sure, a long breaker is better. But that's in the garage like 15 metres away.....!

    Mate I just brought a new belt for the same reason as you and I can’t get the farker on!! The tensioner won’t go low enough to let me get it on. I gave up and put the old one back on 😕
    Any tips?

      Oh man that's what happened to me too. My mechanic had to order the correct belt, which I helped him fit. Bloody Sparesbox sent the wrong belt but then admitted they were wrong but wouldn't refund without me posting the wrong one back and making me pay for the correct one.

    • @seabell

      Even with the correct belt it's a struggle. Difficult to get the 15mm socket on to the tensioner pulley with the belt resting on it (the socket). What eventually worked well for me was having the belt off the idler identified as "N/A In Development" on the Dayco diagram. That allowed me to easily rotate the tensioner with the belt already in place, then I had enough slack - and an easier reach - to slip the belt over the idler between the alternator and the AC. Thanks Unfastened!

    Do all tensioners come with the pin? I just received mine today it has no pin.

    • @Unfastened
      @Unfastened  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a different brand, it might already be in the loaded position. You just bolt it on and use the nut to bring it down so the belt can be slipped on.

      Old comment, but received my tensioner today, it’s dayco brand and has the same part number 132031 and mine has no pin in it either
