- I needed to figure out a way to provide water for the feral cats so that it wouldn't get dirty from fallen leaves and/or raccoons taking a bath.

Busting the myths and misinformation about feral cats.
Just because a cat is feral does not mean they can't be fabulous.
Befriend a feral. Ferals can be fabulous!
.
#cute, #cat, #cats;
I have been feeding a colony at a building near my house since 2008. The building was recently sold to individuals who hate the cats. (I have to leave my house at 4:30am and feed the cats b4 the employees start piling in bc I have had one cat hit by one of their employees). Anyway, so far they have thrown out every water bowl that I had hidden. Today they found my stealth hiding place and threw that one out too. Now the cats have NO WATER! We have sooo many raccoons that wash or climb in the water, and sometimes poo. I live in Florida. These cats need water (as well as all cats)... these people really suck. Thoughts????
I would mix water into the food to make sure they are getting water that way. I would leave water in paper bowls every day. I would talk to a local rescue group to see if the cats can be rescued and maybe relocated.
Thanks so much for all your videos. Two feral cats have "chosen me" and I am working to keep them fed and watered when I go out of town, without raccoons ruining everything!
Clearly, the most popular option, per the cats, is the trickling hose.
Thanks for the tips. I have the same problem. I will try your idea. Thanks
Those cats are super friendly for being feral! Have you got them fixed yet?
Why would you ask that question?
@@LuckyFerals Why wouldn't I ask that question? If you care about cats the answer would be yes! Getting feral and stray cats spayed or neutered prevents them from reproducing, stops the rising cat overpopulation and reduces the number of cat deaths and quality of life for the cat.
@mark johnston You wouldn't ask that question because it's rude and insulting. It means that you are assuming that the person you are asking it to is stupid and irresponsible, especially when it is not part of a conversation and you can answer that question yourself by just viewing the other videos on the channel that you're watching. I would NEVER ask someone that question until I've asked them MANY other questions first to get to know them, their cat(s), and their situation.
@@LuckyFerals I don't see why you're so easily offended over a question. And assumptions aren't good for anything. I was just asking if they were fixed, it's a simple question with a simple answer.
Feral cats are a problem. I believe getting them fixed should be the number one priority for anyone wanting to help them.
What a great idea! I love how dedicated you are to these precious kitties. I was wondering if you have cats of your own? ♡♡♡
Just these.
TY for this! I've been trying to figure out how to keep the water mostly clean from falling debris & dirt getting kicked around for the feral colony we inherited with our house. Fortunately, we don't have raccoons & we're far enough from the mountains to not have javelinas, but keeping the water reasonably clean was becoming an issue because a lot of dirt & sand & debris blows around here all of the time. Plus, there are asshole humans who kick over any bowls left out for feral cats here.
I hate asshole humans who are mean an inconsiderate to feral cats.
I guess i can leave food for when it rains . Thank you
Leave it to Splash to figure out the new water system first!
Build a big beautiful watering hole...drink from the hose...cat logic.
derfo20 cats love moving water - makes sense. Moving water is cleaner than sitting water
Cats making a mockery of mom by drinking from every other water source. But Splash found the good stuff.
Thank you so much for this awesome idea. I take care of quite a few colonies and I think this will work wonders. People always talk about feeding ferals but dont realize how important hydration really is.
It is for all of your inside kitties too. Most household cats that die between 10-13 yrs old is because of a kidney malfunction. It sneaks up quickly and there's nothing you can do short of expensive hydration packs.
Water is important for all of us.
Yes, it’s very important to have several water stations and water bowls to choose from.
Fantastic Idea. My cat has decided she like it better out side but her water bowl keep getting dirty.
Not sure if your still using this but try rasing the back of the bowl so the water always pools at the front of the box.
Genius, I'm copying this idea too. I just moved home and have stray cats and hedgehogs come into my garden so I've been feeding them for a while, i have separate feeding stations (made from plastic storage tubs of course) but can never get the cats to drink from their bowl. This is a brilliant idea :)
The other thing I've done is put out really large bowls of water for the cats. Just not near the food.
Thank you for being such a wonderful person 🌺🌺🌺💕
Maybe you could get what's called a water lixit. You can attach it to your spigot and when they push the little button on the end, fresh water comes out. It doesn't take them long at all to figure out how to use it then they always have fresh clean water and you don't have to work nearly as much))) We use them at a big cat rescue sanctuary and it saves a ton of work. You can use PVC pipe and add T's and put up multiple stations in a row
Cool idea, thanks for sharing!
I was wondering if I could have your permission to post this video to my Facebook page. With temperatures rising this is some much needed info.
Yes, that would be okay. Hope it can be helpful. :)
Thank you very much
Nice design, I will copy it. Thanks.
What a great idea. I bought a container very similar to yours with the idea of making it a feeding station but the cats aren't too keen on going inside of it to eat. So maybe I'll convert it to a water station like you did. Thanks!
I also feed ferals for 2 years now me and you have warm hearts❤️❤️I get up every morning 4 am to feed moist food mixed with dry the reason so early is Iam a early bird anyway and the flys are not out yet then dry food through out the day we even have storage containers from my boyfreinds work we insulated them and I have large dog heating pads in them and cat beds they mainly sleep in them in the winter, I also put up with those damn raccoons and throw a fire cracker and they disappear for a few days 😝
We have a feral mom with 2 kittens.
That’s just like Stella, Simba, and Splash! Please be good to them.
Lucky Ferals Oh, I am. I also have an indoor cat and she is not happy about this new family. When I am sure the kittens are no longer nursing, I will have the mon spayed. We call her Samantha. We have not named the kittens yet.
Great ideas!
Ooh you have a stripey spotty one like mine...my older one is a ginger British shorthair and the two outside are the standard London feral Black and White (they always look like they're going to a formal dinner party with the white bib and paws lol...but they aren't nearly well behaved enough...or at least the current Tom isn't! ).
Wouldn't it get skinny from the heat
Do you ever have issues with mosquito larvae or worms in the water tubs? I’ve found I have to dump my gravity water dish regularly to combat the mosquito larvae. If I leave standing soapy water in the moat around my auto feeder (to combat the ants) then I get these really gross long worms 🤢. Any suggestions for either?
I've always dumped and refilled the water on a daily basis or as close to a daily basis as possible. I never had an issue with larvae or worms. The biggest issues that I've had is algae growing in the water bowl if it gets too much sun.
@@LuckyFerals gotcha. I wasn’t sure if you’d had any issues since you were trying to create a station that would be sustainable for a 3 week trip. Have you ever had ants in your autofeeders?
1:14 I bet you could put a small board or rocks under one end to make the water run down toward the open end. i don't know if that would help or not.
You have a good heart
I am surprised the cats would drink from after a couple of days , cats dont like standing water
All of the cats here like standing water. They won't go near a water fountain.
@@LuckyFerals that makes things much easier, I was surprised
hi: does it still keep the racs out? I am thinking of trying it with a cardboard box. (ie just think of the blue bin you have, but I am going to the exact same thing, but just with cardboard box). Also, inside, instead of the white tub, I am going to use the mason jar water dispenser that you have. I am hypothesizing that the rectangular hole is what keeps the raccs away. Do you think it will work? should I try it? Does your set up still keep the raccs out after one year? thx.
Cardboard does not work because it get ruined when it gets wet. The material needs to be weather resistant. The raccoons can still drink the water in here. It's not designed to be raccoon proof, it's designed to keep leaves and other such falling debris out of the water.
I see. I won't do it then. I will buy a lixit, maybe. thx.
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏾
Splash will always be a mom's boy!
you shrure you don't live next to the airport?where's the other cat?
Lol. Right! For some reason the planes sound so much louder on videos. Not sure where he was at the time...
MAYBE... have a swinging door, and push the tub to the rear of the tote !
CATS FIT IN... raccoons can't reach past the door ??
Excellent, thank you very much!!!!!
Oh my God and you’re wanting raccoon Stephen how much diseases that they carry I am with Oklahoma wildlife management team and feral cats are a very big problem not to mention that you’re sharing water with not just raccoons probably possums at that you really don’t want to mix those two together because it can spread rabies and other foreign diseasesThat we may not know that exist
all of the local wildlife peacefully coexist. people like you are the problem, not the solution. the best thing that you could do for wildlife would be to spend your time educating yourself.
All this woman is doing is making the problem of feral cats worse. DO NOT FEED FERAL OR STRAY CATS!!!
+Flip86 DO NOT BE SO RUDE AND IGNORANT!!! Watch the other videos on this channel before you make such a stupid comment.
You are SOOO wrong!! These cats can live wonderful lives, and if trapped, spayed/neutered & then released, the cat colony population is controlled. Feeding these wonderful cats protects our birds!
