Hi Niri, firstly I'd like to say you're a very knowledgeable musician and fantastic player of the ney.
I would like to ask you if I may, why does the ney in D starts in C. If the cylindrical tube is cut to a certain length in the frequency of C4 for example, why is it referred as Ney in D. Is it the Dugah position that designates the note name of the flute?
    Thank you

Niri, could you please tell the name of song when you demonstrate rast maqam. The song of Oum Koulthum. Its melody, it's something amazing and it plays now in my mind! I must find and learn it, please tell its name, I cannot understand what you're saying on video after playing it, 'cause you're saying this very quickly.

Hi Niri. This is a little bit confusing. Would the finger positions give you the same note on anyyy ney that you play. Wouldn'the difference in key and scale like A mansur or D dukah give you different notes

Very good ! I think that you speak English and Spanish at same time (the notes are in Spanish) I speak Portuguese so is easy for me but for Americans and British they will not understand.
I like the half bemol (other spanish word, in english is flat B ) and others good explanations. I play sax and orchestra flute and try to play shakuhachi, duduk, dizzy flute, shahnay and bansuri flute. Now I want a ney flute. Do you know where I can buy one good Ney Flute?

A while back I had what some might call a spiritual awakening that I will not really get into. But this awakening pushed me into many things such as studying cultures from India and the Middle East among other places. It also pushed me towards things like Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita, Ayurveda, Greek and Egyptian Mythology. As I was pushed more and more I realized it benefited me in ways that I never imagined especially my diet, health and well being. Now I happen to be pushed towards two musical instruments that took me a while to find out what I have heard. But the two sounds of music that I finally found after much long research is the Lyre and the sound of the B kiz Ney. But I have learned not to question these pushes so I will be diving into these next two things pretty soon. However, I wonder if I will be setting my self up for the fall in trying to learn these at my age 42 but either way I will do it. I will have to teach myself, being I live in the sticks far away from any teachers. The only experience I have had with musical instruments is when I was a young man I played the piano between 8-9 years old and was told I was very good and could be even pro later on but had quit. I dabbled with the trumpet, drums, and guitar but neither ever tickled that in which I wanted to hear and now I know why. Hopefully, it is not as hard as it looks but then again I have nothing but time:).

thanx for the video but please don't forget to mention the persian ney too. all those notes you were mentioning have persian (farsi) names: do means 2, seh means 3 and char means 4. So the origin lies in the persian culture but still great job!

Persian ney is different than arabic and turkish. It has only 5 holes and one hole at back of ney. The player is also put the ney on the upper teeth to play. Turkish and arabic is nearly same.
