I must say, I am a bodybuilder at heart and mostly follow BB and nutrition content, however, your guys' channel is great. So different and interesting to see the lifestyle and training of serious runners. Although this is not my particular preferred fitness medium, I can respect and appreciate what goes into the work and sacrifices that are needed to excel in the concept of speed.
I started bodybuilding at running at the same time when i got into fitness and now my focus is on running and it’s fun to see the overlap between the two things cuz i still enjoy watching bodybuilding contact even though I’m literally trying to get smaller for running
Over the years I've found there's an individual "sweet spot" with mileage and trying to balance health, speed, and race performance (as well as work/school, and/or social life). It's generally something we sometimes have to learn the hard way (with injury or poor race performance), but a gradual progression over time is generally good. So smart to track the weekly averages and yearly totals. For example I ran some 140-mile weeks right out of college and that ended up being too much...but when I ran my marathon PR of 2:16 I was more at like 120-miles per week. For others it might be the difference between running 65 miles per week (compared to 80). It's always a tough balance when you've got some high quality speed workouts and you want to stay fresh and efficient! Keep it up and stay healthy!
I am currently trying to find the sweet spot in balance between mileage, recovery, school, and other social aspects. Started pushing to hard and got injured. After I recover I am going to slow the mileage a little bite and focus more on recovery
Let's go! Nothings beats a new Adam video on a Friday. Love the more upbeat pace and editing on this video, just keeps getting better and better as always 😀🔥
First video of yours ive ever watched, and im glad I found this video! I’m just starting xc for the first time and i was glad to find out a serious and really good runner started from somewhere small and worked their way up. Thank you for the motivation to put in work to do better! 🙌
Great video 👌 some great reminders for myself 😊 i will try doing my first 100km/63mile week this summer. Just DNFed my marathon last weekend after the half way point, to hot and not having any fun so the best thing was stepping off. So i have a great base after all the training for that race 😅
Wonderful video 🙌🏽 I decided to join my college XC team. And I am a beginner in running. Never ran in my life. I’m kinda scared but excited. My coach knows I’m a beginner and have me running 5 mins & walk 1 min. The biggest challenge is comparing myself 😔 I’m just trying to overcome doubts But I am excited to see what I can achieve and my running journey 🎉 Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it 👍🏽
Love this! As a very low mileage, but high XT volume runner I can say that it is so individual! I couldn’t stay healthy with more miles, but some people thrive off it! Would you consider a video on how to structure a week of training, and also a training block?
I hit 1000km for the year last month and my back suddenly started spasming out of control. Had to stop training for a couple of weeks to rehab and recover. Now cautiously trying to go back to training.
Thank you for this video! As I’m finishing up one block rn for a marathon next weekend and starting a new one in July for the fall I definitely want to increase my mileage and want to do it safely. Hopefully to hit 50 mile weeks consistently by Sept! Super insightful and saving this for later when I inevitably want to go crazy with my mileage😂
@@AdamWoodRuns that’s something I haven’t done super well in this block, been better the past few days, and stoked to do it consistently with the next block in a few weeks!
Hi Adam, I love your videos. Recently I’ve been hearing about 80/20 running a lot where you run 80% of your runs at an easy pace, and the rest harder. Do you do this with your training, or what’s your thoughts on this method. Thank you so much! Keep up the good work 👊🙏
I like the 80/20 rule and that’s usually how my weeks end up being distributed BUT I think that rule shouldn’t always be applied. Depending on your situation, if youre a new runner or how many miles youre running the ratio might be different. I think the principle of 80/20 is more important. Which is lots more easy running compared to hard running :)
Shit I’m at 50 miles weekly I feel dead knees, all swollen still not stopping running seven days a week no days off and this is all trail running and I’m new to running I’m 11 months in and I started at 227 lb now at 204 And 6.0” and 34
Congratulations on the weight loss!! But you’re totally overdoing it. You’re gonna hurt yourself and won’t be able to run for a very long time :/ try hopping on a bike or trying out other forms of cardio
I agree with the other person You are likely overtraining. Emphasis on likely. You should feel sore after a workout but not to much or you'll probably get injuries.
@@4lifesponge just logged another 50 mile week. Now I’m feeling strong. and the heats up in Cali we hitting 100 I went out and got in a 5 mile trail run in the heat of the day 2:30pm got that shit smoked in 59 mins you have to push beyond when you think you’re capable of little pain won’t stop nothing
I've signed up for a half this august! I'm going through nike's plans week by week, what is a realistic improvement over the course of months/the year with more mileage? My goal is 8 minute miles average and I'm currently in the 10:20-11 minute range. Currently averaging 20-26 miles/week 5 days a week.
Feel out your speed on tempo runs to see what you can expect :) My easy pace is 10:30 but I race at the 8 minute mark. Depending on the course and how recovered you are it might be attainable already
@@koltennay3801 last week I was able to cover a few miles at tempo pace at a nearby trail and it was about a 9:00-9:40 ish pace, this is with the same trainers I run with normally. Its pretty awful weather here atm for running in the summer so I signed up for another half on September 28th, cant wait to see what I can do!
@@koltennay3801 so my phone on Nike Run club was tracking miles faster, I got a coros and I'm around the 13:30 mark for zone 2, hoping I can get under 3 hours for the half. 2 1/2 would be nice too
Read the book Older Yet Faster - Don’t be put off by the title and take your time building up the technique with your mileage. Form is THE most important aspect of running whether it’s ultra running or sprinting to get PBs on 5ks. Good luck!
how do you mentally recover from injuries? I always get back out there and keep going, yet there’s that subconscious fear of training at your peak performance in avoidance of potentially being injured again.
The only time iv ever gotten shin splints was back when I used to heel strike while running and I had to be pushing the pace, once I fixed my form the problem never came back regardless of the pace
I agree with comment above, when I first started running I had horrible shin splits from over striding and trying to go too fast. Focus on taking shorter quicker steps and landing with your feet right under you instead of out in front of your body 👌🏼
I’m a 400 runner who went up to the 800 this track season. I was pretty good considering I’m a freshman sprinter. My mileage was really low because I was mostly training for the 400, but now I want to do XC because I think once I get the aerobic component of the 800 I can run low 1:50s. I’ve been running about 18 miles per week, plus lifting 5 days a week, and sprinting 2 days. Do you think it would be more beneficial to run instead of lifting most days, and then lift like 2-3 times per week?
What is the name of the song you used in this video, starting at 0:50? I've looked up every lyric and used shazam and I still cant find it. It's a banger and I would LOVE to have it on my playlist.
Im an absolute beginner and I want to know how much mileage I should do. Like how many miles do I run? Is there a formula to find out ur weekly mileage?? Anything would help😁👍
Just start at a mileage you know you can handle. Maybe 3 miles 3x a week, depends how much of a beginner you are. Then just add 2-3 miles a week until you get up to 20 which is a solid mileage for a beginner. Make sure to appreciate the journey and don't rush it, injuries suck
Question, I want to increase my milage ove rthe summer for corss country and I peaked last year at 45 miles. I want to maybe build up tyo 55 to 60 till end of july. Just took a down week and will start back at 35 miles. How much milage should I increase weekly with taking one day off a week and recently took down week? Also love the recent content that you guys have made not just on the youtube but on all socials! 😀
