  • This is an epic but fairly brutal climb in the beautiful Lake District! Some steep kickers of over 25%!!
A video of probably the last ride there this year - but it was a beaut!
    Enjoy!

I think that alot of riders have forgotten that cycling should be, FUN. With the advent of technology; Strava, MapMyRide, and others, cycling has become all about competition and one upping each other. This year I deleted all my ride apps and only write down my miles, no averages, top speeds, or elevations. I Just Ride. I go out and ride whatever I feel like or until I am satisfied and head home.

John Day I keep my Edge 25 so I have a rough idea of my calorie usage so I can lose weight or eat dessert!

Amen to that. I unfollowed everyone on strava so I can't see their bragging and set all my rides to private. Now I just use it to log miles and thats it.

Have to agree with you John Day.

John Day i agree. I though the whole idea of getting out on a bike was to keep fit and just escape from whatever you want to escape from. Have a laugh with friends or go out on your own which i do a lot. All these apps etc are just adding to peoples stress trying to outdo others which is defeating the object. I only write down miles and time.

To be honest. I have fun, but I'll have even more fun once I have my Garmin. Love pushing myself.

Just did my 50th FLAB Social Ride Saturday gone and only started organising them in March this year. It’s all about the company, Banta, fun and not forgetting the “views”, oh and Cake, can’t forget the Cake. 😁😉

Looking well-balanced and relaxed, the "new" perspective obviously works for you. After all it's the pleasure that counts, whether you find it in PB's, Strava or others, or in the enjoyment of the ride and the company. As long as you ride it's all good!

I have done "The struggle" when on holiday in Windermere. Great climb. Even better decent back down to Windermere if you take a left at the top.

Looks like a great area. I can recommend doing Jotunheimen Rundt in Norway. Epic views in the mountains around in Jotunheimen national park. 430 km with around 4600m+ elevation. I've done it once. Beautiful!

You’re lucky to have great hills, pretty flat in Cambridgeshire :(
Some nice climbs around Bath too.

So tortuous. I would love to take up cycling but these slopes look hellish. Do you ever get off and walk your bike?

There's an absolutely stunning campsite near the stone circle - Castlerigg Hall. High up on the hill overlooking the lake, breathtaking views

I admire your fitness and stamina, well done with the climb, just watching you makes me feel out of breath. I am trying to get back into cycling, after 43 years of not being in the saddle.

I use connect Garmin with my 230 and that is paired with MyFitnessPal to keep a close watch on my calories. I'm a Type2 diabetic senior (I concede....). I did open a Strava acct, but just out of curiosity as Garmin is quite satisfactory. LOVE Kendall Mint Cake. Can't find it in Canada, or I haven't, yet!. Used to buy it in the hiking shoppes in Jasper Alberta when I was working there as a kid.

Kendal mint cake... mmmm…. I mix my road riding up with mountain biking & there is no better place to ride my mtb than up in the Lakes. The enjoyment is totally off the scale! :-) Riding up hills & mountains where roads don't go, ride a bit, push/carry the bike a bit, take in the awesome views, ride a very techy rock strewn descent & get to the bottom, look back up & think "damn! did I just ride that?" Have a laugh/banter with mates & enjoy the euphoria of a great days riding.

I have been following your exploits from Australia and enjoyed so much. This ride particularly so as I have visited the lakes district a couple of times and done the same route by car. Brought back great memories 🙏

What a lovely area. So cool to run into history on a ride. In Los Angeles if a building is 60 years old its antique. Would love to roll up to something like that.

Great to see you out and glowing 😃 Have you tried Grasmere ginger bread ? Tiny shop in corner by big hotel in centre. You need to eat on day of purchase as it doesn’t travel well. It’s funny stuff half way between a cake an a biscuit

I think the most memorable cup of tea I ever had was brewed up on a camping stove sat on top of Norfolk Island in the middle of Ullswater (canoed out to it). Incredible view.

I fail to see why people would actually want to cycle up hills. I mean I do it but only because they are in the way of where I want to get to, if I can go around I will.it just seems like masochism to me?

    • @RPCAFF
      @RPCAFF 4 ปีที่แล้ว
