Who would have thought this song would have started problems. (I was laughing reading all these comments probably because of the reaction you got but also because I don't think the comments got too bad). Half the country thinks one way and half thinks the other way. And both sides get mad at each other because the other side thinks bad of them. In regards to the mask, I want to wear one even tho I kinda don't believe they work. Lysol makes me cough and when I spray it when I have a mask on, I cough. On the other hand, my family and I were glad we had a mask on when visiting my dad in the nursing home and found out the next day that he had covid.
@@SarahPesto The nursing home ( the end of August) called my brothers and sisters and my mom to let us know we could all visit the same day but only 2 at a time because they thought my dad was getting worse from other things....but it turned out he had covid instead. I am a Shane/Kirsty purist. This is one of the best covers I've heard that does justice to them and the song. Thank you, Puddles, for not doing a Shane impersonation.
There's a slightly shonky Radio 2 acoustic version by James Dean Bradfield and K T Tunstall from the Archbishop of York's palace that has a certain charm.
I agree that Storm on this is far and away better than any woman I’ve heard take on that part of the song since Kristy, and is just as good on this as Kristy was. I can’t say I’m a big fan of Puddles vocal take here, but that’s probably just me. Shane just had a rawness and edge in his delivery that I’ve never heard anyone replicate and any time I’ve heard anyone try and cover one of the songs he is known for it just feels like an entirely different song at that point. It’s still one of the better covers of this I’ve heard, though, and I’m glad to find Storm through this. I’ll definitely be looking into more of her work.
This is one of my all time favorites. I feel like it's one of the few true love songs. It deals with the truth of lifetime love's compromises, including bitterness and resentment. But it also shows that love doesn't have to end there. The bitterness is misplaced when you blame your partner. THEY didn't take your dreams from you, LIFE took them from you both. And it didn't TAKE anything really, you just...grew up. You're in this thing together. God i fucking love this song.
Puddles has such a strong voice, I wasn’t sure he could be matched. But she did a fantastic job! I got shivers when she first started to sing. Well done!
This was a surprising treat. I had not heard this song before, it's rather unique. The duet is outstanding. PPP is always solid. Special Credit to Storm Large for visually selling her reply to "I could have been someone" with "so could have anyone". Epic. Thank you and Happy New Year!
It's 10:30 in the morning and I have 24 dozen cookies to bake today. As I listen to this I 'sweeten' my coffee with a little Kahlua. Thank you for putting me in the Xmas spirit, Puddles.
I’ve loved this song since I first heard it, and I never thought it could get any better, but you two have knocked it out of the park while paying a hug homage to The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl (RIP)...This was awesome!
Puddles... I hope that you know the happiness you spread on this earth with your singing. What a great collaboration for such a great song. Storm.... beautiful singing... amazing voice too.
I had never heard this song before I watched Shane MacGowan's funeral last December and have loved it ever since. So poignant. So haunting. Happy Christmas!!!!
I would have never predicted the changes you two have made in my life, so thank you for your that. It’s hard to cry when singing along..but I’ll manage.
This got added to the Christmas playlist faster then hitting the like button happened! Mad respect to the The Pogue's version but Puddles and Miss Large knock this out of the ballpark and into outer space. Thank you so much!
Never.. I think puddles voice is great and is a fantastic artist. But nothing beats the original.. This is an Irish folk masterpiece to its core , McGowan, and McCall just can't be topped
From us here in NY to you Puddles. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us. You brighten our days and we appreciate you for all that you are. You make your mom proud while bringing all of us so much joy. Please take care and stay safe.
Dear lord... I love her voice! PS: What a wonderful song to cover! More love to P3 and everyone else here in the comments section! Take care, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all of you and your families! 😁
Thank you. I have avoided anything to do with Christmas this year because this is the first year ever that my Mum and I will not be together, she's being held against her wishes and mine in a care home, that she cries to me about detesting so much when she phones me on her own mobile phone, her having been put there by social services who have used false information to do so. She's 81 now and this maybe will be our last Christmas ever, first time apart. My heart is beyond broken but your song made me smile for a little while, so thank you.
Yes, like the totp's censoring. Have you read nick cave's recent comments on this debate ? What do you think of them ? I think the hospitalised woman in the song would never use the word 'haggard' in insulting her man, it would be much more colourful and colloquial.
I'm loving all the feelings we're getting over this song.

Blasphemy. This was horrible.

You took the words right from me. This was going to be my comment.
Perfect take. Really wish I had said it this way.
Well said.
The world needs this right now.
The world doesn't need therapy, it needs courage. But I agree this is a nice version of this classic song.

My favourite Christmas song ❤
Clearly his best duet. Storm is brilliant as is the Great Puddles.
For the many years I was an exotic dancer, I did this song for my Christmas shows. Love this song so much
The best Christmas song.......ever.....
Second best after "How to make Gravey" by Paul Kelly
I'm already crying at the start of the tune... To all my family gone above, I love you, and I'll see you again one day. 🧡

Love this version here in Ireland
The facial expressions and body movements of both Puddles and Storm add much to this performance.
I still remember Storm Large from Rock Star Super Nova. She was one of the stand outs. Great to see she is still Awesome. Thanks for the duet Puddles.

@@richrichie378 Not suggesting the Puddles version is better, just that they did an excellent cover of a Pogue's classic.
