FELIZ NAVIDAD :)
Letra de la canción:
It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me
won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
And I turned my face away
And dreamed about you
Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true
They've got cars
Big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me
You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on the corner
Then danced through the night
The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringing out
for Christmas day
You're a bum, you're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Living there almost dead on a
drip in that bed
You scumbag
You maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's your last
The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringing out
for Christmas day
I could have been someone
well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
when I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you
The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing 'Galway Bay'
And the bells were ringing out
for Christmas day
It's not really just a Christmas song is it me i can play this song any time of the day of the year expeciely when sung by this pair ❤
I like how it's trying to be its own thing instead of just replicating the original. Plus, Florence Welch is a powerhouse vocalist.
The first five notes of this song make me cry on sight. Cheers to all the other loners out there.
🍸
🍻
Cheers! Been a loner since 49 years (I was born 1972) my all time favorite song!
Shamefully lifted from the score of once upon a time in america....but nicely stolen
A year later, cheers and good health to you my friend
Shane is a PURE LEGEND but Billy himself is also nothing short to be one ... no version will ever match the original, but this one is a really good.... good one! Well done!
Oh beautiful cover, harp is such a fantastic sound
Finally, a cover that is worthy of the original.
I love Billy Bragg as a musician and human being
Oh my gosh! This is gorgeous! And still remains true to the spirit of the original song!
Means even more when you realise how much billy bragg had to do with kirsty mccoll
Love this song.
I've heard a lot of versions of this song. I've heard a lot, and I mean a lot, of bad ones. This is a good one.
I almost completely disagree; I even like Florence and The Machine a lot. This was terrible.
Stripped back and faithful to the lyric...yes good one
I love the original so much, I really expected to hate this. I didn't. I like the starkness of it. I like it better than the Dropkick Murphys version. But, to me, this song is near perfection and hard to mess up, unless you change the words (which some have done).
I also hate when artists cover this solo. This was really meant to be a duet.
Yes, these two are wonderful in an understated way. Vocals are perfect for their dreamy performance.
I love that this isn't Ed Shereen's ultra squeaky clean version.
most people who try to cover this song it sounds so trashy this version is more subtle and the harp was a really great choice. Billy and Florences voice really worked well together. My sister loves Florence and you can see why here bless them both
Impresionante!!!!
Rest in Peace Shane and Kirsty!
WOW Well done guys, Billy has been a legend for a long time
Beauty beyond beauty
I wanted to love this. The original is in my top five songs. Both of them are amazing. This feet a little soulless.
The Irish-trained Mr What won the 1958 Grand National at 18/1 ridden by AP Freeman.
Miss Kirsty so much but wow this is so good
I love the original but this is superb
muchas gracias DIOS TE BENDIGA
What is wrong with the last few respondents.... this IS a British band....not an Irish band...Wikipedia can prevent people from sounding stupid....
The only cover of this that doesn't suck
2:24 This machine kills time ~ Esta máquina mata tiempo.
My god, I've been in love with that man forever. 😂😢😅
I was convinced you couldn't pull off this song without using Irish accents *cough cough Ed Sheeran* then I heard this.
😱❤😍
The only English man that could pull that off
Try the Katzenjammer, Ben Caplan and Trondheim Soloist's version.
Dunno the song is by a drunk man so it HAS to be sung drunk
From Rob Da Bank's much missed Radio One show
nice harpage! Shame to lose the harmonies on the "boys of the nypd choir" bit though.
Harpage? What the fuck is harpage? You're A Douchebag!
Quaint little
Beats Ed sheerans version off the planet ty
A mighty cover. Beats Bon Jovi.
Never will there be a good cover of this legendary song...ever
Too early?
tbh i think this version sounds too english.
What a,great Harpist, and the singing was OK,
I think my only problem with this is that to me the song is meant to be sung poorly as the characters were both horrible
you calling Kirsty MacColl horrible?
they weren't horrible. they were down on their luck.
Brendan McAuliffe no luck is life good luck is meant for you to lose some day
kinda weak
kudos to both singers for staying awake through the song, they sounded so tired, and listless
That's the point with this interpretation. The original was based in anger and vituperation. This version is a "more in sorrow than anger" song highlighting poignancy and a sense of loss. The stripped-down arrangement and production fits that different sense of the song perfectly.
An atrocity.
Good version although miles behind Pogues original. Florence has no passion at all in her voice . She is awful . Billy Brag is great as always.
Came in at 10 to 1
Eighteen to one
+Davy Jones Definitely 10 to 1, its just Shane's strong accent.
+Callum Jewell it's 18 to one
it's 18 to 1
We all got royally trolled. Why would someone post that part of the lyrics that is not important but many people do mishear?
This version is to "polite" Supposed to be two losers but Florence and Billy are much to refined. Loses a bit in translation.
Hate this woke blokes version.Up the Pogues
proving (as if proof is needed) that MacGowan is light years away from Bragg in talent.Florence Welch is just fucking annoying but then we all know that.
Was liking it until Florence started singing. Harpist best part of it then Billy.
