They made a mistake and listened to those that told them that they were wrong at a time when so many others double down on their errors and express contempt for accurate criticisms. Let us not condemn them for making a mistake. Let us be grateful they corrected it.

Their continued hostility towards KK during the 50th anniversary, is SERIOUSLY damaging their brand, and reputation. “Nice guy Halford,” is no longer viewed that way by me, as he is a part of this. The twin attack of KK and Tipton are the things of LEGEND. You hold these things in high, and ETERNAL reverence: definitely NOT the way to bow out after half a century.

I'm so glad that Judas Priest has come to their senses and actually listened to their fans, the band trying to go out as a four piece with one guitar just wasn't going to fly at all especially as they've built their legendary reputation as a twin guitar outfit, as they say if it ain't broken, don't fix it. Now if I were those guys, I would get on the phone right now and call a certain Mr Downing to come back to the band....

I have to wonder if this whole thing was set up. I also tend to believe KK when he said he had issues with management - I felt that way with several comments in the lead up to KK leaving. Honestly, the smart thing to do would be to get KK back and work it out like they did with Rob. Much worse breakups have been reconciled. If that means new management, then maybe that's not a bad idea. They should never have chosen the managers over KK in the first place

Whooo the power of the fans.
Reminds me of when Bruce Dickinson said live on stage that Iron Maiden were never going to play the old classics, & for the fans to see a tribute band if they want to listen to those songs again, and the fans went, really?
Year or two later Somewhere Back in Time Tour was announced, another few years later Maiden England tour, years later after that Legacy of the Beast tour.
Only Bowie could get away with saying & not playing his old old classics because he had even more hits in his back catalogue, as well as changing musicians & the size of his live act.
These bands aren’t Bowie, or Springsteen for that matter who has the ability to play with or without the E Street Band.

Maybe the time has come to call it quits. I have been a Judas priest fan for decades, but I would rather see this band retire than to do anything else to weaken their legacy. Without K.K. and Glenn, the band really isn't the same anymore.

I've been a huge Priest fan for a long time. I'd like them to put out more records. I can tell the tours are increasingly hard for Rob. I hate to see the squabbles and drama, it's a bad look. Time to quit trying to be "this or that" and just rock the f**k out! 🤘

Hahaha, I just thought of this. It was probably a ruse to get everyone to shut up about KK Downing to rejoin!
Think of it, if everyone kept bugging them about Downing not being in the band, what would shut everyone up better than threatening to go out with only one guitar? Now that Andy is back in,, nobody cares about who is in the band, as long as there are two guitars. That is a genius way to control the situation. I hope I'm right and all the "fans" have been played just like they wanted.

Like a lot of longtime Priest fans; only seen them twice though😐 I think this was a reactionary decision, when they realized(due to drop in ticket sales & social media backlash) -We f**ked up! Personally; no disrespect to Andy/Ritchie/Scott, etc. Priest with Glenn & KK is THE standard.

  • @jeffc1347
    @jeffc1347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Priest was about to commit the ultimate sin in the metal world which is why they absolutely had to revert back to the status quo (of what they have been the past few years). Without Glenn and KK, though the band is not as big of a draw, a lot of people think "well they are so old now I want to go see Rob and hear the songs because this will probably be the last time I ever get to see them, if for no other reason just because their age."
BUT you absolutely not go out there and play to tracks, that is the unforgiveable sin, and that's what they were going to do. Of course the best thing that could happen was bring KK back but if they were not going to do that they had to bring Andy back. Going out there with tracks would have been career suicide.

I am just glad they rectified the situation before doing any tour dates. Imagine seeing a show with only one guitarist and then they reverted back to two axemen for the next show? I would have been pissed. Also glad that Priest had the smarts to listen to the fans. Far too many bands would have marched on without hearing anything.

I'm glad that they've changed their minds on the *terrible* idea of a "one-guitar Priest," but as much as that concept seemed like a Spinal Tap moment, their changing of course so quickly (when faced with the swift backlash of their fans) seems *even more* like something out of "This Is Spinal Tap," lol! In the end, they made the right decision, but the whole situation is both sad and unintentionally hilarious to me!

They made a good decision to stay as a five piece band...but, the right decision would be reaching out to KK Downing and bringing him back into the band for this 50th anniversary tour. Downing obviously wants to be back in Priest...his solo band is just a glorified tribute band. I'm sure he'd prefer to back with the real Judas Priest again.

I thought it was such a strange decision in the first place. When all your music is based around a two guitar sound, how on earth was that going to work? If a group adds to their sound, that's somehow different. Say Led Zeppelin had decided to go out on the road and had opted to take a second guitar player with them to fill out the sound and help recreate more of the textures on the records. It would have been a bit odd seeing them as a five piece, but it may have worked (Page and Plant did just that in 1995). But taking away from what made your sound in the first place was just unfathomable and I'm glad they've changed their minds.

I'm divided on this. The injury is healed enough for me to go see live. However, the recent events has left me with a sour taste to the band. To see them live and know that the set-up isn't what they initially wanted will definitely plague my experience of them. If they would have used their heads from the beginning, they would have known what a stupid idea it was. It's this type of fan service that has made me lose respect for the band in recent years. If this was Maiden, Steve Harris would have given two s**ts about the fans reactions and continued on as he originally wanted.

I was at the Louisville show that Faulkner had the heart issue and they were really good. I also saw them on Painkiller. For me it was cool seeing both versions but the real joy came in being able to take my 21 year old son (who really likes Priest but never had the chance to see K.K. and Glenn) to the Louisville show and just watch him rock out to seeing them live. Not much time left for a lot of these bands so being able to share those moments with my kid and the same bands we love is all that matters to me. Glenn and K.K. crush it but hats off to Sneap and Faulkner as well. They do a tremendous job. But it definitely needs to be 2 guitar players.

To be honest I was looking forward to seeing and hearing Priest mix it up with some change and go out as a one guitar four piece, could have been a breath of fresh air to hear a stripped down version of the band and see how Tipton handles the situation caving in and going back to doing the same old thing if they really didn't want to seems pretty stale and gutless.
