If you're a techie guy or gal, you may have read some stuff about WiiM. WiiM is one of the new players on the block that offers streaming pre-amps and streaming amplifiers that are chock-full of features at a very attractive price point. So what's the catch?

In a nutshell, for whole-house solutions or separate streaming speakers, Sonos is the way to go (watch the video for WHY). WiiM is a great solution if you want to add streaming audio to a legacy stereo or surround sound system that doesn't have some form of built-in Heos, MusicCast, etc.

I have 5 Wiim Pro streamers in my house and have Zero issues with them! I also didn't set up anything special with them either other than hardwiring them via Ethernet. Plug and play and the things just work.
Also, look at any other review of the Wiim products they say the support is actually very good.
I do however agree with you that Air Play 2 sucks!! That is because it streams directly from your phone to the speakers. With Chromecast the streamer takes over the streaming as soon as your start it and your phone just acts like a remote.
Let me summarize this video a little differently.. WiiM wins on price and able to drive most affordable speakers ( typically 8ohms and around $700), sonos is twice the cost and can drive slightly haard to drive expensive speakers (1k+). I would argue wiim is best bet for the most ppl. Streaming is not an issue with wiim. Chromecast all the way.
I disagree with your statement about YT Music being better on Sonos!
The point of Wiim is that it supports all the big wireless streaming/casting protocols so YT Music does actually work flawlessly with the Wiim streamers (actually much better than Sonos in my opinion because their Android or iOS app is significantly better than what you get on Sonos) Casting to Wiim Streamers over Chromecast right along side any other Chrome cast Audio products which include a very wide range of sound bars portable speakers and active non portable speakers. You can move the audio around dynamically around the house to all the various speakers you might have using the Google Home app as well as the Android Audio output picker.
I have a Bose Smart Portable Speaker as well as a JBL Portable speaker that I can play to at the same time as the Wiim Streamers. I use the Bose Smart Speaker in the back yard to play music while I do yard work while I'm also playing the same music inside and on my deck!
Thanks for checking in. YT Music is absolutely more reliable with Sonos. Here's why.
When you have one app and ecosystem (like with TH-cam's supported app with Sonos) you have less failure points. This is more reliable than using 2-3+ ecosystems. Ex: Using Chromecast (which can be buggy) + WiiM + Google Home + Android, etc. like you have listed above. You have less chance of items locking up, less chance of things needing firmware updates, etc. It is a mathematical certainty.
With that said, you can do a lot of cool stuff with Wiim and the systems you described and can save some $$$ in a multi-unit set-up. For people that are savvy with this stuff (sounds like you are), Wiim can be an effective way to go. For many people that aren't or that want something that is more reliable and has accessible tech support (Wiim has NO phone support), Sonos is a great option.

I would look for something that is sensitive for the best results and probably 90dB or above. There are a lot in this space but it is a consideration we would make when specing these.
Had Sonos for years and got a wiim pro plus streamer . Wiim is amazing and much better than Sonos. You can get some cheap bookshelf speakers for like 300 a pair and a wiim amp and be 600.00 in and that system will sound much better then Sonos pair . Also you can add wiim to gear you already own for much cheaper then Sonos. Sonos is simply way over priced and it doesn’t even give you that great of sound quality for the price you’re paying.
When you say Wiim is "much better", what exactly are you comparing to say it is better? Are you comparing the sound of a Wiim amp + bookshelf speakers to a pair of Sonos Ones? We can't tell from your points above. You say you bought a Pro Plus streamer. Did you have a Sonos Connect and you replaced it will the Wiim piece?
Sonos products fail constantly for no reason. They drive a lot of my tech support business 😂.
Interesting...we experience the opposite and they seem to have good longevity. What specific problems do you come across?
Sonos is way overpriced!
If you just need a streaming solution for your pre-amp or stereo, there are definitiely cheaper options.
