Man! You have the best informative videos on TH-cam! Your not two biased, get great info , and give the info from experience and staying up to date with what's going on with the drivers and r/c car manufacturers. Great job!!
Is honestly the best breakdown I’ve seen. Someone like me should have selected a Tekno right off the bat. Everything is a good price you don’t need a ton of spares and there’s a ton of setup sheets and support to get you racing well. Only downfall is if you’re just copying setups you’re not learning.
This makes me even happier about my 2024xb2 deal haha €500 for a barely used buggy including a couple upgrades, hobbywing xerun motor, elcram nitride esc and power hd D15 servo. Tore it apart completwly and built as kit. Really loving it! Only worried about spare part prices like you said haha
Have you thought of Pr racing? For a beginner, the s1v4r is a very good car for under $300. There is the new B10R, which I've personally seen be competitive with both the b7 and the x-ray. Yes, the x-ray is probably the best, but I would argue that the Pr racing is as good if not better than the b7. For a weekend enthusiast on a budget, I have to stay firm that there is no better car for the money.
It's no worse than any other race car. Unless it's a brand new ae, tlr, or schumacher parts can be tough to get sometimes, even ae. Try getting parts for a last model ae. I have a b74.1d. Main parts are still good, but certain pieces, or the optional parts....gone no support. Ae is terrible about support on discontinued cars. I look at it this way. For every race car you own, you should own 2. Things break, always carry arms, shock and rod ends, shock rods, and gears minimum. As soon as one piece is used, replace it. Sell your new cars every two years maximum. That way parts are always available. The Michigan warehouse reorders once a week, and can parts anywhere in lower 48 as quickly as amain. It is always possible just as any company to have parts problems. When the Vanquish vrd carbon came out, I waited months for a stubby kit. I finally pieced and machined my own kit.
10th scale program definitely has been a wild ride for spares the past few years, thankfully the 8th scale program parts really haven’t changed much spares wise
Hi Roach, wondering if you could help me out a little bit. I'm looking into trying out 2wd Buggies as I've never driven off road before only circuit. I'm based in the UK but I'm still torn between Associated and Xray. I'm not sure about the Schumacher. I have 2 local clubs. One races on carpet and Astroturf in summer while the other races on a gym/sports hall floor. So firstly, do I go carpet or dirt edition? At the carpet/Astro venue apparently Associated and Xray are very popular. I'm thinking Xray however I can't seem to find the new one anywhere nor many videos on it. I'm guessing it just got released? Which leaves me thinking to buy a B7 instead however I'm bound to crash quite often and I'm not completely sure how reliable it is after hearing what you said about it as well as another video mentioning the chassis/ C block issues. Or do upgrades like this aftermarket chassis as well as a listing I see on ebay selling longer pins fix these issues? Thanks.
Hey there! First off I'd grab the Carpet version and grab a ball diff for the gym floor as you'll be starting from a better spot than if you were to get a dirt version and convert it carpet. Secondly even though the X-ray is still very new, I'd still go with that one as the 24 and 25 versions are very similar. Even with the revisions to the b7, the chassis itself is too much of a problem point.
@@RoachRC Thanks for the reply/advice. One last question, if the Xray 24 and 25 are so similar do they share the same chassis? For example could you easily convert the 24 into a 25. I assume you can't. Do they share the same bodyshell? Hope you don't mind me asking.
I don't mind at all. The 24 and 25 are very much compatible as they are based on the same new gen platform, anything older than that and things start to get more proprietary.
So far so good running the XB2D '25 5 gear, granted I'm running 17.5 on clay. It's whisper quiet and the idlers seem to be of higher quality than the kit B7 idlers, shocker! lol One nice thing over the '24 XB2D is the '25 plastics are mostly hard with some graphite pieces while the '24 was mostly medium with some hard plastics. I found the medium to be a bit too flexy, especially in the XT2D '24, for any track you run slicks on. My B7 is still king but looking forward to getting more track time with the XB2 and SO 2.0 Dirt Edition
I thought so too. I’m new to RC racing and bought a used 5.0 DC Elite that was in very good condition. Lots of other guys in my area are running the TLR 4.0 and 5.0.
ran a hyper 7 this year. It is hard to keep up to the modern buggies and the chassis is weak for the bigger size jumps that are at rc madness other tracks. the back jump at madness bent the chassis and locked out the steering rack from being so bent. the diff access on the hyper 7 makes hb and the mp10 look like childs play.
A refreshingly honest and unbiased video. I've owned and driven nearly all cars on the list, and the suggestions are spot on.
Come for the RC, stay for the lounge vibes. Love the videos. Keep up the great work.

Great video Roach! I ain't mad that you left WIRC out of the pillow ball listing lol

Always look forward to your videos Mate. 👍🏼
Xray XB2 25. It’s absolutely awesome. Zero slop The best build quality. I’ve had the b7 and the LD3 and this is on another level

We see quite a few PR Racing cars here in Michigan
Only thing about pr is the parts support.
@ very true, but i can order a part and it will get to me in 1-2 days. But there is a warehouse here in Michigan so i’m sure that makes a difference.

Great video as always. Keep it up Dr. Roach!
Xray is nice too because they release a new buggy every year. So you have to replace most of your spares EVERY year.

Not mentioning TLR in the list of most relevant 2wd buggy brands in the US is crazzzzzy

Because tlr is just about out of business and haven't released cars 10th cars for like 5 years. Everyone of their big guys is leaving
