    Thank you for this amazing video. Was very nice to also see the Iraqi synagogue. The Iraqi Jews have a very strong history in Mumbai and the Sasoon family was very prominent and had close ties to the Ben Ish Chai. It was under the direction of the Ben Ish Chai that the Sasoons opened Yeshivat Porat Yosef in Yerushalayim. Very nice to see that there is still Jewish life in Mumbai. Thank you for sharing this with us. Hatzlacha to Shloime and the rabbis of India and all of the Jews in India.

    Shloime! Todah Rabah, for the new program. I feel that HaShem is blessing you with insight wisdom to help heal the world and bring peace. I had been researching an ancestor of mine named Johannes Friend who died in New Jersey America in 1737, but was buried in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. For me this didn't make any sense. But seeing your wonderful program on Mumbai, I now see that the Jewish impact on that part of the world is very old. Shalom, Shalom my Friend!

    That was very, very interesting. I have to make a joke, though. Rabbis, at least around here, are notoriously bad drivers. I kept mentally telling the rabbi in the video to put on his seat belt, and put down the phone, because driving as a rabbi is dangerous enough. 😆 Oh, and he sounded Israeli, which adds another level of questionable driving. 🤣
    I hope you go to Central America, and check out the Jewish communities there.

    I have a question:
    In the beginning of the video, the rabbi gives a speech of how in the face of domestic terrorism, we shall not engage in war, and essentially sells this as the Jewish thing to do.
    Yet in the story of Hanukkah and The Maccabees, the Jewish men DID fight the Greek army, in order to gain Freedom, despite having all the odds stacked against them.
    So my question is, why is pacifism being sold as a good thing, and necessary as a Jew, when Jewish history has displayed that indeed sometimes fighting and engaging in war is necessary and later celebrated?

    • @sdr5863
      @sdr5863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Crystal Skulls In the Chanukah story, the Macabees were fighting active oppression.
      Here, when the rabbi was speaking at the funeral, it was after the fact. He was saying that we would not seek revenge with violence, rather, we would respond with bringing more light into a world that often seems dark.

    • @Crystal11Skulls
      @Crystal11Skulls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sdr5863 The rabbi specifically said, “In the face of domestic terrorism, we will not-“ do x, y, and z (engaging in war.)
      Isn’t that saying, “We won’t defend ourselves,” ?
      What phrase did you hear that he references being vengeful?
      Because I can understand not being vengeful, I cannot understand advocating against self defense.

    • @sdr5863
      @sdr5863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Crystal11Skulls The domestic terrorism was already experienced. They were gathered at the unfortunate aftermath. So by "in the face of domestic terrorism" he meant facing the results of domestic terrorism....

    • @Crystal11Skulls
      @Crystal11Skulls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sdr5863It’s just an odd way to phrase things. He could have said, “Now that it’s over, we won’t-“ or “We will not be vengeful”, etc.
      To say, “In the face of domestic terrorism,” well, “in the face” means current/present/as its happening now/etc.
      I HOPE he meant “we will not be vengeful.” The way he phrased it though makes it sound otherwise. I just don’t like anyone advocating AGAINST self defense.
      As I said, I hope you are correct. I hope my interpretation is incorrect.

    A few comments - I am only providing this as constructive criticism to help the channel improve, as I really think Shloime Zionce's content is great:
    - The Chabad rabbi said that the Holtzbergs built the mikve in 2015, which is obviously not correct.
    - Maybe a little less Yiddish, or at least provide subtitles. When ?Nachi Gordon? was talking about downloading the Meaningful Minute app, he threw in a couple of random Yiddish words, and I had no idea what he was trying to say. Shnell? Emshteh? Ashkenormative is not inclusive.
    - You need to have a warning re shechita in the description. I have no idea if you filmed the shechita but I heard the squawking at @15:20, which is very disturbing, as I've been a vegetarian for 31 years. I had to jump ahead.
    - Disappointed that you didn't interview any Indian Jews except for children attending a Chabad school. This episode was more about Chabad than the Indian Jewish community of Mumbai. There has been a complaint about Chabad for decades that they come into communities and try to displace their customs with Chabad customs. This video does not dispel that believe. Moreover, the Mumbai Jewish community goes back centuries and is vibrant and fascinating. This video did not provide any window into the Mumbai Jewish community. The terror attack in Mumbai was horrific, and I attended their funeral in Kfar Chabad, but there's so much more to the community in Mumbai. I think the Chabad Rabbi is a great speaker and I really got a lot out of listening him. Maybe the title and description just need to be changed to: "Nariman House: A story of tragedy and survival. 13 years later in Mumbai." Or something along those lines. And then you can make a separate video where you interview Indian Jews about the community in Mumbai, and call that video, "The Jews of Mumbai."
    B'hatzlacha.
