More than words ruined the whole world's perception of that man. He's a phenomenal guitarist. Luckily, the royalties for More than Words probably more than compensate him.
@@skobywankenobi that's pretty sad even considering more than words is a very well written song, I love the little nuances in the harmony that he plays with.
The "divide and conquer" approach is, generally, a great way to tackle/fix issues and learn things. On this one in particular, separating the picking movement from the rest of the riff, is one of the best things I've ever seen. Kudos Ben, you're a magnificent teacher!!!
Extremely well thought out and fully explained , including options. This is the the kind of Lesson that really makes a huge difference in my playing and interest in going through all of your Lessons. Thanks and stay safe. 🎸
Isn't it funny how things all link together? I was just watching a video of Ritchie Blackmore earlier, where he's talking (junk) about Joe Satriani replacing him in Deep Purple. I've never really thought of Ritchie Blackmore as a shred God or anything like that. I saw Rainbow in 1980 at the first Monsters of Rock concert at Castle Donington in England. Considering that Judas Priest and Scorpions played, along with others, Blackmore was not the best guitarist on the ticket, you would think by his attitude that he was though.
And uncle nephew Ben Eller is one of THE best teachers. I would never have the patience to STEP BY STEP DISECT AND EXPLAIN a legato lick in CLOSE DETAIL! Id tell the kid its one of those things ya have to figure out lol.
NICE!!!! I've met Nuno MANY A TIME here in Detroit and still never figured out how he pulls it off!!!! Can't wait to meet him again. Going to take this video into LIKE!!!!!
Wow! That was awesome! I was shocked I can do it fast even before the vid ended.. but it tires me really fast too.. so I gotta practice my endurance more. Thanks for the vid Uncle Ben!
Top notch. I never realized playing one note on the sixth string and doing a pull off on the fifth string gives me 3 notes so effortlessly. Definitely subscribing to your channel. Your other material is also top notch. Thank you.
We want more NUNOOOOOOO 🤘 a variation on Nunos picking is, that the second note is picked with a downstroke and the last note is a hammer on. Just checked that on a lesson here where he is teaching/showing the GET THE FUNK OUT solo. Greets 👍 awesome lesson, uncle Ben, thanks 🙏
A new Uncle Ben Weekend Wank Shop video? I'm on it faster than a cheetah on a speed boat! Cool riff to get under our fingers and thanks for breaking it down so well.
Holly shit ben. This tech rocks. It put my begging soloing to a new level. Been playing 29 years as a rythum player now my soloing getting much better that is to your vids. Thanks brother
Working on the exercice right now (at Step dad speed). I hit the high E with my middle finger and only use the pick once. Albert Lee style. Combining two things i'm currently working on, chicken picking and speed.
Thanks for showing the lick in slow motion, other dudes don't take the time to show u right, I learned the pattern before the video ended Thanks again I will be following u
Great vid, When my wizard picks arrive I am sure that will also help, thanks for the pick video cant wait for them to arrive, a pick that has every thing I want all in one pick, your videos really help alot Thanks putting them up.
Great lesson Ben! Just saw you with Andy Wood the other day in Asheville. Phenomenal playing by all and a shout out for Seth Rosenbloom as well. Happened to be passing through from Texas and can’t wait for you guys to make it down there sometime. Everybody do yourself a favor and see/support these guys!!!
You are an awesome teacher, Ben! I always learn something new, from every vid I've seen of yours. Thanks a bunch for taking all the time, and hardwork. :)
Bass ackwards Ben - that's what I love about you! You should just have a few beers and do a video where you talk - no playing required! I'd certainly watch it. :-)
Thanks for the lesson. This is exactly the kind of video i was looking for. Im trying to learn a similar style pentatonic lick but instead of starting on the 5 fret it starts on the 8th with a pull off to 5e. Then it goes 8b back to 5e then 8-5 pull off on the b string. I was really having trouble going back and forth with my first finger. But i think covering both strings and rocking back and forth like you're showing is the ticket.
I learned to do this same lick but hammering from nowhere on the G and picking the B. Great for doing those insanely fast Blues licks like in Freebird as well!

This reminds me of those picking variations Marty Friedman teaches on, I think, exotic metal guitar. It's one thing but it's 3 or 4 different picking patterns that really changes it well.
Cool lick. Played like this for a long time and was always pulled towards legato. Now that im trying to learn a solo with just picking im having a really hard time.
Love the AxefxIII!!! Also love ToneX, it’s a great addition to have some specific amps the AxefxIII doesn’t have (or too much tweaking to get it right sometimes) But the Dizzy VH4 amp block is just worth the price of the AxefxIII hahaha
Thanks, uncle Ben! This is EXACTLY what I needed, as Jeff Kollman plays that lick in a Cosmosquad tune (El Perro Vaila from Cosmosquad's first album). Picking it does not work, especially at the speed and groove Jeff does it.
@Ethan Ricks Very true. Trying to figure out any of his parts is a very humbling experience. I have seen him live at a music expo in Germany as well... melted our faces!
Nasosdag, if you're into Jeff Kollman I've seen him in a band called Edwin Dare out of Toledo back in the mid 90`s open for Jake E. Lee. Amazing guitarist.
Ben, love your work! I'd really like to see you break down some Baroness tunes, specifically Morningstar for the complex lead line in the verse and chorus. I haven't seen many people cover it in any detail.
Quick Q for Uncle Ben. I'm a new subscriber & just noticed a Kemper sitting behind u. I too use AxFx3 (road) & AxFx2 (hm) & play mostly Jimi, SRV, Mayer on the edge of breakup. I love both Fractal's but have been seeing a lot of Kempers around. Since it's usually one or the other getting a consensus on both is tough. Since you have both, I'm wondering what ur thoughts on how they compare on strictly tone. Not Fx/Peds/ect. Just Amp vs Amp. Maybe 50s Fender'esq? TIA
So … when do we get the … „get the funk out“ Solo lesson - next to „shortest straw“ / „beat it“ & „Jump“ my favorite „I will never ever be able to play this“ solos🚒🚑🚨

Nuno bettencourt, easily one of the most underrated greatest guitar players ever, the guy plays technically very well, and very soulful
Underrated indeed, it's not like his name comes up in litterally every guitar tuts on the interweb... oh wait...
@Rex Gridge I disagree, some of extreme's music is kinda trash but his melodic composition is tremendous.

Super cool lesson. Love these quick licks videos. I rarely have time to learn whole solos. This helps a lot
This is probably the most useful guitar lesson I've ever had. Thanks Ben, you're an utter legend!
Ben I like the way you really go in depth and explain what you are doing.
2:00 I don't know whether u realized it or not but u accidentally play the hardest riff ever.

Judas Preist and Scorpions over Blackmore????
Lmaooooo
Yeah Ok
Live2Shred Scorpions in 1980! That must have been amazing! No offence to Priest or Rainbow.

Dude, if youre interested in doing nuno stuff, could you make a video on the "play with me" solo? Cheers
I agree totally. Learned it in the late 90's (thanks, Bill & Ted) by ear and it was all hope and "ahhhhhhh!".
"Get the Funk Out" > "Play with me"'
DruoxTheShredder Li'l Jack Horny > Get The Funk Out
"Peacemaker Die" > "DruoxTheShredder Li'l Jack Horny"
My mind just goes blank when i hold a guitar. After 30 years i can finally play rhythum.U tube has finally made me confident and learnt how to play.
Also one good example of this pattern would be Sweet Child O Mine outro solo (end bar), Slash uses this same pattern in E mixolydian.

Or just how to dial in a sweet 80's tone.

Dude Rock n Roll Fury is you, haha great lesson Uncle Ben, your the coolest, i luv Nuno too
That Axe FX III sounds great, brother.
I watched this video and realized Brent Hinds uses this technique on Hearts Alive! Thanks UB
The key to it sounding good is amp and effect... you have to use enough sustain and a bit of delay to make it work as a shredder piece.
That's right and each guitar player has his own tailored settings.
