    John Keats + Benedict Cumberbatch = Heavenly combination.
    How soothingly alluring, deeply expressive his voice is. In love with this recitation!!

    I'm a non-native english speaker. I am unable to understand a single word of what he is saying and still, I love this.
    His voice, his breath are more than enough to make me feel every emotion of those words I do not understand.

    • @TheJamesy52
      @TheJamesy52 11 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Stop bullshitting. A non-native English speaker who didn't grasp the language couldn't write a paragraph that well. Most native English speakers don't understand English that well.

      You understood what I was saying, so fuck up. You clearly understood what was being said in the poem.

    • @caly-the-cat8400
      @caly-the-cat8400 11 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      TheJamesy52 I'm not a native English speaker myself though I grew up with English and nearly "unlearned" my own mother language, but I did not understand all the words - let alone the content - of the told story. Non-native English speakers may be able to write a neat text but they won't always understand spoken language, especially if they learnt American English and try to understand British English. That was - and still is - the greatest difficulty for me in school 'cause I grew up with American English whilst in school they teach us British English. Therefore it IS possible for people to not understand everything spoken in this video.

      I don't believe you. Read the poem 2 or 3 times, then listen to it 2 or
      3 more times. You will have no problem understanding it.

    I'm glad there are people commenting who appreciate good literary works and aren't just fawning over Cumberbatch. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, but the poem takes the stage. His voice its merely the vehicle used to deliver it! (I love his acting, don;t mistake me)

    • @maggie14411331
      @maggie14411331 10 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Please don't get me wrong, I love Keats, but different deliveries may not have the same effect as the one done by Cumberbatch. Surely there are comments only focusing on his voice, but that doesn't mean those people don't also love the poem.

    • @motheatensweater
      @motheatensweater 10 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That's a good point.I think, out of the two or three I've heard, his voice is probably the best with this poem. It's truly a good pairing.

      Julia Crawford I won't lie, I came here thanks to a mixture of my friend knowing the poem and my intrigue in Benedict, but this is now my 3rd time listening to it because I genuinely see the beauty of it :). For some fans it introduces us to great works we, otherwise, may have never known about.

    I have a condition called synesthesia, which shows me colors that accompany noises. Benedict cumberbatch's voice is a gorgeous medley of blues and purples. Honestly, minus the infatuation of a fan, I could sit and listen to his voice for hours.

    I came here because of Benedict, but honestly if my literature teacher would've read poetry with this much talent and intonation basically the right way then maybe I would've loved poetry by now. This man knows how to read poetry and has got the accent and voice tone to back it up. I'm glad he is in tune with this art form so well. I'm glad he does theater and these readings and voice overs. It expands an actor so much more than being a handsome face. Really the face is just a bonus in his case. Has worked on his craft for years and has made it better. Quite impressed with this man. He takes his career seriously and loves what he does.

    poets read their works, or works of others, the same way a mechanic fixes a car, or a doctor performs a life saving surgery; every syllable and beat is equally precious. actors read with the want and forgery of the artifice of alarm and reassurance only the masks can make of life. that said everyone, especially poets, love when an actor reads a work aloud. and Benedict Cumberbatch is a fantastic actor, with a great voice, and wonderful insight of inflection and tone and the powers thereof. love his work. and very glad he did this one. Keats is one of those empty arrays of life, that bold comes to life, with the twist of conscious prism, into a splendor shudder of defused color burnished of bruised needs. there is insight, and brooding reflection, and the already growing distance of the genius touch. here, he is being almost whimsical, with the horror of loss of all, and the strangulation of those that survivor for a clock tick more alone, and eroded of persona, crippled by loss, of all those, or the one, who did not survive. pared of one to alone. deep dark stuff done with a cuff link glint flip of the wrist like a magician producing a cloud of doves out of thin air. and yet it is all in supposition, in abstract, before the prior event is a past reflection of self and same. i am glad when someone like Cumberbatch, who has the talent and the charm, does works like this; it brings a horde of deer eyed people into master works of poetry, and being there they often stay to become ever greater poets themselves, to fill the void of needs with worlds wonderful and true. thanks to him to sound the call, and those that follow. and thanks to all who worked so hard on this; for it is and was and will be, not to unlock a new generation of poets and poetry lovers, alone that it was made, but is the heart given voice in our time of needs.

    A magnificent reading of this beautiful poem. The choice of Mahler in the background compliments Keats' work and Benedict Cumberbatch's voice so well! A MUST listen!

    Maybe it's because of Keats' beautiful writing, maybe it's because of Cumberbatch's voice, or maybe because it's past midnight and I haven't slept in 24hours, but I started to cry. This is beautiful.

    It is not merely the voice- it is a combination of the wonderful poem, flawless execution of the reading, and a wonderful, musical voice doing said reading. The trio of beauty is just mind blowing, crush on the reader or not. If having Sherlock read poetry gets somebody to appreciate good writing, so be it.

    i always say that no anyone can read out loud literature it needs a talent and great deal of that and knowing what you read and what it is about... and for me also a voice and i do not mean just deep voice or something like that but i mean a voice in which you can feel the feelings and which incites feelings and imagination and the person again needs to know what they are doing ... and really this is amazing i love keats and this reading is just .. keats always inspired me and this reading even more ... same like listening to Alan Rickman reading Shakespeare sonnets ... a goog reading will give you a totally new and different experience of the literary work ... i love well read audiobooks

    Thanks a million for posting this magical reading!!! What a great voice he has!!! Though it's a beautiful poem, it' s also a rather long, difficult poem (for English learners who have to study it) and Cumberbatch makes it easier to understand! It's beautiful!!!

      If he were an English or literature teacher, there'd be a lot of students these days who'd appreciate it.

    Exactly. He gets Keats's words completely. His intelligence is sexier even then his voice.
    Cumberbatch knows this poem by heart, by the way.
