We vacation in the Smokies when I was a child one of my favorite places was Cherokee. It’s so different now, back then there was Indians dancing and the shops were a buzzing with so many people. We camped on both sides of the mountain. Maggie’s Valley was also a hot spot with Ghost Town and Frontierland. Since the casino open it’s all changed. I will have those memories of what it was like in the 60s for me to cherish. It was so exciting in the 60s in Cherokee. Now my husband and I try to go there once a year. We rent a cabin and just just enjoy relaxing, eating shopping and riding in the mountains. Thanks to your videos I now see allot of places I want to see.
Such great childhood memories in Cherokee for me also. You would drive on the main road going into the Park and the shops were on the side of the road. It looked more like a fair back then. I really miss it. Being on the side of the road was Dangerous. But it was so exciting back then.
Gosh we use to go to Ghost Town In The Sky when I was growing up,I sure miss it!! I also remember going to a cement water slide in the summer,so fun!! We would stop at this roadside fruit stand, and get hot boiled peanuts that they put in a gallon glass cider jug😊I could go on and on,lol 🥰
Wow great to see the old tourist areas from the late 50’s and 60’s still running. When I was a kid these places were everywhere and my Grandma cannot pass up A good junk shop ( souvenir shop). The men in the Car would roll their eyes heavenly begging for mercy As a bunch of women In their sky high bee hives hairdos Would scramble out of the car and us kids followed to be sure to con Mom into buying us some rock candy on a string! I am 57 and that’s what summer vacations were all about. Today people don’t even bother going to these places much young families are planning to go to Disney World and spend way too much money standing in line for hours For a minute long ride or a seven dollar Pepsi lol!
We stayed at The Pink in Fall 2019. Thanks for taking us to the twi waterfalls and showing us the elk invading Cherokee. Each tolerant of the other- tourist abd elk!
I love spending my mornings with your videos, and you. This video was beautiful, love the waterfalls so much...it is time for coffee, see you on the next video.Have a beautiful day!!!
Y'all, when I was a kid we stayed in the Pink motel every year. We usually went once in the summer and in the fall. Last time I stayed there was in 2015. The bathroom in our room was straight out of the 50s. Pink tile with black tile trim....floor to ceiling. I've also had many meals at Peters Pancakes. Their pancakes are pretty delicious. When we go now we stay on the Townsend and Wears Valley side of the mountain.
Visited the beautiful Mingo falls several years ago. We also stopped in the building where you can feed the bears. One bear in particular was very smart and would stand up and spin around in circles for food lol. .good memories.
Thanks for a visit to these falls. I've seen most of the falls around the area without hiking. I couldn't even begin to do all these hikes, but thanks to you and Dawn, I've been able to see all the trails and falls!!! Thank you so much!!!
Waterfalls are always beautiful and peaceful. Thanks for sharing nature and history in your videos. I pray for 100k subscribers for your channel. God bless you.
Great video. Another really great store to visit is Bearmeat's Indian Den. A lot of beautiful authentic Native American arts & crafts and wares. They have a back porch that hangs over the river. It is just up from Soco Falls on Hwy 19 on Cherokee. Between Soco Falls and Maggie Valley I think. Thanks again for these beautiful videos.
Poor Dawn looked like she was about ready to have a heart attack climbing all those steps! lol! I have stayed at the Pink Motel......and yes, the walls are painted pink and the bathrooms are done in pink tile with sunken bathtubs. I have a lot of fond memories back in the early 60's and 70's visiting Cherokee. Hoping to go back soon.
Yanks & Brits. Hi there! Thanks for the nice texts! I own a cabin in the Smoky Mountains called “Heavenly Daze and I’m hoping when Will & Dawn have time, they can do a review on my cabin! Their reviews and videos are amazing! Here’s my website...feel free to check it out. VRBO.com/1008496
I have fond memories of Cherokee NC too. I’ll bet they’re filming you, only fair I can film them. I’d rather just go see the falls. I’m really enjoying your Smokey Mountain videos. Someday I’d love to get a motor home and see everything there is for an extended time in the smokies.
Thank you guys so much for these videos. I have been to Cherokee four or five times. I never knew there was water falls. Thanks to you guys I will check them out next trip.
Went to Paul's went I came to see mingo falls this past summer. Awesome town and awesome waterfalls. Really enjoy your channel. I film waterfalls more towards middle Tennessee. Keep up the great videos.
I've got pictures of myself and my kids at the falls 15yrs ago taken in February and we stayed at the pink motel. You can't get any nicer people than the Cherokee People.they use to have an old buffalo out in one of the shopping stores parking lot. That place is like cades cove it seems to never change.👍👍
Our parents made the mistake of buying us the drums back when we were kids, needless to say, 9 hours of banging back to St. Louis and a living hell for our parents.
I grew up in the 60s/70s and remember the really old parts of cherokee, the last 30 years have changed since then..newer part with arcade/fun park was great in the 90s hate it closed down.
I remember as a young boy when we went to Cherokee their were actually Native Americans. They would be dressed up in ceremonial outfits and you could take pictures with them. Does that still happen.? Keep up the great videos
My family and I went there 11 years ago during the summer and they had the ceremonial dancing and you could get your picture taken with a native american. It's definitely a seasonal place to visit. During the winter alot of places are closed and not many tourists around.
If you keep showing Denise all the beauty the smokies has to offer and she never wants to leave ...well..then can't blame her 😂 you may have to add another caricature to your tshirts 😂🤣😂 Beautiful waterfalls...Aren't they Denise 😂🤣😂......😊😁
Thank you so much for this video! We are spending half of our trip on this side of the park and I was trying to find some small things to do one afternoon. This is PERFECT.
I stayed at the pink motel in the mid 1960s. Clean room, and a door on the other side so you could sit on the river, had grills to cook burgers and such. Liked the campgrounds on the river where you could fish for trout. That was on reservation land.
Hey guys, I’ll be visiting Gatlinburg with my family for the first time in April. I am really enjoying your channel. It’s teaching me a lot about the area through your reviews and pricing. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for showing us the town. We have wanted to visit Cherokee a while now. If you get a chance review the Jellystone campground there, that is where we want to stay!
Love going here as a kid my brothers and i would camp with our scout groups just a little ways out from downtown Cherokee. At least our parents have old videos and pictures. Would like to see all the stores back open. Usually take hwy 411 now days to get Pigeon Forge. But usually drive over the mountain to see the elk in Cherokee from time to time . As a photographer I find myself getting away from it all a lot while in the smokies
I went through there a couple years ago when my brother passed away the 1st thing I seen was that big high rise motel and casino that made me sick. Carl
Remember when they had the water slide in the side of the mountain. And you could walk up and down the strip listen to music and dance. And alot of gift shops to explore. But sadly it is all about gone now
In 1993 I went to a gold wing road riders rally called wings over the smokies attended by over 10,000 motorcyclists, it was held at a big bingo hall or convention center.
