Soundproofed Singapore Studio Apartment (Vocal Booth To Go - Producer’s Choice Blanket)

- It's been a good minute but I'm still here! In this video, I cover how I soundproofed my rental studio so I could play acoustic drums at home without installing a permanent soundproofing setup. It's not going to cut 100% of the sound but it certainly helped me. The sound blanket cuts mid-high frequencies and the heavy density rockwool absorbs the low frequencies, this is why I went for this setup. I did not have a demo of the full setup but hopefully you get an idea from this, and I hope it helps somebody in your soundproofing research.

I since learned that if you use an acoustic board as backing material, it is more effective. It will work kinda like a whisper wall. More mass is key. Next project will definitely incorporate that. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏽
I really didn't consider stacking panel on top of each other. That's a big brain moment and I thank you for that idea.
Acoustic curtains seem to be a nice idea for lowering the volumen that leaks out, but I will have to find a way to make those myself.
Consider moving blankets from a hardware store.
I really enjoyed this video. I LOVE the way your room looks. The table with the computer and speaker and the lighting (fuschia) was beautiful! Thanks for the tips on what to do for windows. I didn't think that it could be done. You've given me s some ideas. Thanks again.
Thank you! Glad it helped.
Very interesting and informative. Thank you Project Beats!!
Uy salamat dito I just moved to Singapore recently and looking for ways to treat the reflections in my space! :) see you around
Cool! Takits!
Rock Wool method was Genius!🫵🏻
Thank you!
Beautiful work mate
best soundproofing video on youtube!
Good video! Looks like the blankets and sound panels are very effective on the windows with a good STC. I wonder about the impact noise that might go through the floor under the drum kit, but maybe the flooring materials in Singapore are less resonant than those in the US?
Thank you! I would need more mass to cut down a lot but for my case this setup is helpful. Also my unit is in the basement of a landed house and is the only unit/room within the house on the basement. But on flats and housing impact noise of the drums is really an issue.
May I know how much did you pay for the panels and the blankets?
This is great! Relatable content. Thank you. Already SUB! Keep it going. 🔥
Thank you! 🙏🏽
Hi, it's good that you managed to soundproof your apartment. I also feel like doing it for my room/ apartment....do you mind sharing the cost of setting up your soundproof facility?
Thanks. I paid $230 for the the blanket (without shipping) and about $60-80 for the rockwool. Plus some labor and command hooks.
@@ProjectBeats_ Thanks for your reply! 👍 I wonder how good has it improved 🤔 in terms of sound reduction…..
Does Tabsmusic provide recording services?
Hey man, I was wondering how do you get your hands on them Rockwool? I've tried the links in the description but I can't seem the find the ones you mentioned.
Hey, yeah I got mine from a local construction supply, I just walked in and ask if I could get a couple pieces.
@@ProjectBeats_ Hey would you mind linking which construction supply? Based in Singapore but can't seem to find any
Renostop, near boon keng.
-62 db si an acceptable noise level. Low frequency and kumakawala jan sa room. Ang tyaga mo idol mag baklas kabit! hehehe
Yup! Kaya andun ung 100kg rockwool hehe. Para sa lows.
How did you actually hang the panels to the walls without damaging the walls?
Its just actually sitting there. Tucked between wall and and curtain rails.
fiberglass cloth will make the resin way strong like a surfboard and fast to complete because a filler spatula is easier than brushes
Thanks! I’ll look into that.
Awesome vid my dude. Studio tour on the way? What Monitors are those?
just a suggestion to cut down on your conversion time, why not just keep the acoustic head on and get a kick drum mute and add a trigger to that pad?
Thanks man! 🙏🏽 its not much for a studio yet 😅 but thinking about doing a studio tour. Monitors are Kali IN8, its on the next vid. I thought about the kick mute actually after I built the thing! 😂
Nice video. I like your idea of using resin for the acoustic panels, in fact planning on making some for myself. Just curious how did you hang them on the wall if they have no wooden frame, do command strips work directly on the fabric?
Thanks for checking the video. For my case the resin acts like a wood frame so I just literally stack them on top of each panel and then secure them in with the curtain in front. No hooks or anything. But if you can drill, I think rockwool wall spikes (impaler) work best.
Does anyone know how to soundproof from outside noises coming from Walls and windows???
are the rockwool more impactful than the blanket? if i just get the blanket, how much will it reduce sound?
Blanket alone or rockwool alone isn’t really soundproofing. Its more absorption and sound treatment. It’s essentially my way of creating mass by combining both plus air gaps in between. It’s a shortcut and my only budget means of achieving “soundproofing” to an extent without voiding my rental contract.
Best is of course acoustic board and mass load vinyl sandwich if you are able. Or blanket/rockwool with heavy acoustic board because that has more mass.
bangis ng intro!
Awesome video! Do you have any recommendations to purchase rockwool in sg? Thanks!!
Thanks! I bought from Renostop in Bendemeer. Good service. 👍🏽
@@ProjectBeats_ Ok I'll check them out thank you! (:
@@ProjectBeats_ Do you have any recommendations for the purchase of 1:1 resin? 🙏
I just got a industrial grade from local hardware. Cheapest one for this project as I dint want to spend much
@@ProjectBeats_ I see, the hardware stores around my area don't seem to carry it. I'll try searching at other stores tml. Thanks!
where do i get sound panels
Usually hardware or building supply.
Did you mount Rockwool panels on the ceiling and floor?
Its just standing on its own
that's awesome! can I get that panel's information?
Thanks! Rockwool safe n silent 100kg density.
Awesome job! I live in a complex (sort of like an apartment, 4 units in one) and I was planning to use the blankets to help me out. Question with your lego panel setup though. Do you ever have a problem with your panels falling over or are they just snug on the wall where they don't fall? I may build me some panels in addition to the blankets. Thanks!
Thanks! There is a metal frame on the ceiling that holds the main curtain. The gap is perfect fit for the panels and it holds everything together. Plus the rigid frame helps. So I never have any problems with it falling off.
@@ProjectBeats_ nice! Thanks again!
If my neighbor is the cause of noise will this also help block their noise?
Yes should work both ways. Adding a layer of plywood would increase density and effectivity or sound reduction but adds complexity to the build.
How do you deal with air conditioning sound.
I don’t find it a big deal for drums. Barely hear it on drum takes even on soft parts. Just cardioid on OH all set. Vocal takes I do shut it every take. But really not an issue.
I’m going to do a build and let you know how it goes.
Nice! Looking forward.
how'd it go?
Any news ?
Is the rockwool cause any allergies?
I haven’t heard of that before. It did get itchy at one point, but to be safe I do recommend wearing protective gear if you are worried. It’s just very hot here so I didn’t bother wearing one.
Hi! Thanks for lot of info, is that also rockwool infront of your drum?
Yup! I have a video of how I made that somewhere 😅
how do u block sound say if i’m in a town house they use thin walls but i wanna block that sound from me either gaming or laughing but without them hearing me so say if i scream during gaming i want the sound to not bleed through the other side as well
Best would be mass if you could install. So plywood/drywall sandwich, plus air-gap for decoupling your side to the wall and some absorption, like curtains/insutation (rockwool etc.
@@ProjectBeats_ say if i use soundproofing foam or acoustic panels or blankets etc. on both side of the wall as i don’t wanna put like rock wool or anything. so say if i put foam on both sides then put a blanket regular thick fluffy blanket over the one wall that my voice is going out would that work. and i can’t do anything to my walls tho renting town house
Mass would be your friend. Look at Audimute Sound Barrier sheet. Some type of mass load vinyl inside their curtain. But might be expensive. Some type of heavy mass or cinema curtain of sort will help. Plus some air gap.
@@ProjectBeats_ r u able to link me a amazon link to the thing u mention the sound barrier sound blankets
#GOALS
Effective talaga yung sound blanket.. kaso parang mahirap maghanap dito sa Manila
Moving blanket parang parehas din. Doble layer nlng. 👌🏽
@@ProjectBeats_ thanks sa info!
100th like let’s go!!!
How much of the room did you do?
The blanket was on the glass wall/window and partition between bed/sleeping area then doors. Sound panels on the whole glass wall. Then just sound treatment panel inside.
watching this brother! this will help me to have an idea para sa drum room ko :)
salamat eevs! msg ka lang.
I have my own bedroom and wanna soundproof so my parents wont hear my strumming.
I cant do much for the walls and doors, but i am thinking of getting door seal. Not sure if foams will work behind the door? 🥲
Unless you really break down the walls or make a room within a room, it's more like sound treatment than it is sound proofing
Sure, alright.
Is using Fiber glass or ceramic fiber wool insulation would work just as well??
I learned that if you use acoustic board as backing material behind the insulation it will work much better. If you are able to I would suggest that.
@@ProjectBeats_ thank you so much! This helps a lot. 😁
Cool, where are you from?
Thanks! PH, currently based in SG.
