    Hi Lauren. You provide really super useful information, presented well. Really good work. Question: you put a lot of emphasis on nicheing the f*** down. Would you have any advice for someone like me? I know Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, all aspects of front and backend web development, I can write (my mom was an English teacher, so I had to have perfect grammar when I was 4), and I'd love to write about...everything: sports, relationships, skeptical thinking, technical manuals...whatever someone might need, and I'd feel uncomfortably limited by nicheing down. Plus, I'd love to design websites, fix broken code, design logos and other graphics, etc. I've seen other freelance writers who say they've created a career writing every different thing imaginable. How certain are you that we all need to niche the f*** down? Thanks for your time :)

    • @WanderlustmovementOrg
      @WanderlustmovementOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Niching down gives you focus and establishes you as an expert so you can charge higher rates. Think of it this way, if you were hiring a writer for your esports website, would you rather hire a generalist or someone with expert knowledge on the subject? Which writer is going to have a better understanding of your industry, and the pain points of your customers to write blog posts that will convert into sales? Who would you feel comfortable paying more money to based on the results they could potentially give you?
      You seem to have an interest is visual programmes like graphic design and Photoshop. That could be your niche. You could write for websites which help people who need graphic design help like Canva or sites which do in-depth Adobe tips/reviews.
      Think about who your ideal client is and how you can help serve their customers.
      Ofc, you can still write on other topics, but if you're looking to command higher rates and establish yourself as the go-to expert, that's where niching comes in. I've also changed my niche through out the years, so you're not married to it for life.

    Hey Lauren, Thank you for mentioning all of these websites. I have a question though, so idk if you have seen on Instagram how young people like people younger than me and I’m in my mid twenties. So they’re probably 18-23 somewhere around there I’d say. They go to all kind of resorts and places and I’m not going to lie I’m jealous because I don’t understand how the heck a 18 or 20 year old can go on these luxury trips and stay in nice resorts. They obviously are getting paid to do something to be able to go out to all these nice trips etc. but they never mention what they do to be able to afford to go every week or so to a new country. So my question is what type of job do these people do in order to travel for free? I really want to travel but lol I’m broke. So I’d love to know what it is they do to be able to do such a thing. Thank you💞

    • @WanderlustmovementOrg
      @WanderlustmovementOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's lots of way they can do that. If they have audience those places could be hosting them for sponsored trips. Sometimes properties let you stay for free in exchange for social media exposure other times you get paid.
      But besides influencer work, they might have monetized their audience with digital products or affiliate marketing or something else that they sell to make money.
      Or they could have an online business or they are born wealthy and that's how they are funding their trips.
      The only way to know is to ask these people.
      But there are plenty of ways someone can go about this even at a young age.

    Hello, Lauren, thanks for your tips! I wonder, if I can take any of requests from these sites being non-native speaker?

    • @WanderlustmovementOrg
      @WanderlustmovementOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I personally think the "native English speaker" thing is discriminatory. If your cover letter and samples are written well, it really shouldn't matter where you're from. If it does, it's not about your writing, it's about your nationality and their personal prejudices. I'd apply and not mention where you're from because that doesn't matter if you can write as well as a "native" speaker.

    Hey Lauren! I have one question about creating my LinkedIn profile: I am Brazilian and I still live here, therefore my nationality will be shown as Brazilian in my LinkedIn account - but I will write content in English. From what I noticed, it seems that many clients usually only hire or prefer hiring native English speakers. Is there anything you would recommend to reduce the likelihood of getting rejected just because of that? Thanks!

    • @WanderlustmovementOrg
      @WanderlustmovementOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Igor! I don't disclose my nationality to clients or in any of my pitches. Technically South Africa is a "native English speaking country" but a lot of people don't know that, and I just apply anyway.
      You could be a British person living in Brazil who moved there 20 years ago for all they know. That's why I personally think the "native English speaker" thing is misleading and is discriminatory.
      However, I think most people add that to jobs because they want competent writers, so if your cover letter and samples are written well it shouldn't be a problem.
      If it is, maybe those aren't the kind of people you want to do business with because then it's clearly not about how well you write. It's about where you are from and their personal prejudices.
