I love that this film wasn't afraid to get silly and not make any sense. FUN was the intention and it did not disappoint. Also Gru was absolutely hilarious! Enjoy :)

11:37 "how is everyone fooled that that the pyramid's not even there?"

Not gonna lie, I’ve watched this movie like a million times and this is the first time i even noticed the pyramid in the background. My eyes were always just focused on the house 🤣

You reacted exactly like Gru during the bogey robot scene. I couldn’t stop laughing 🤣 Love your reactions to these films
They were thinking in the same wavelength 😂
16:43 His face and Grus face and 16:57 The same hand gesture lol
Literally! Came here to say this! 🤣🤣🤣
The Despicable Me movies series is the definition of "Dad strength hits different"😌
The Minions’ language is a combination of different languages like French, English, Spanish, Hindi, and Korean
So basically Illumination just yanking a language to make for a minion?
With some hints of Japanese and... fruit.
Like Simlish 😂
Fun Fact: Fsr, the Brazilian Dub made them speak actual words
I can hear some Indonesian language too,
like terimaksih means thank you and some others that i can find in some of the franchise movie.
One thing that I cant get through my head no matter how many times Ive seen this: Grus mom is voiced by Mary Poppins herself, Julie Andrews
Me I’ve known that but it’s so hard to picture it being her if ykwim
wait....... WHAT?!
@@kirara2516 yep.
No flippin' way
I was just about to comment something similar!
One thing I admire about this movie is that the celebrity voice cast are actually doing different funny voices that fit the character instead of most animated movies these days.
The first time we see Ms. Hattie, why do I always think, "We found the real villain."
Does she remind you of Dolores Umbridge maybe?
@@mistyxmarlboro You know, now that you say it...
@mistyxmarlboro a bit of ms hanagne(?) From little orphan Annie
She gives me Umbridge vibes
Margo’s heasitation to leap always has me in tears “ you gave us away “ like the abandoned child syndrome is so real . Makes me think Margo has a deeper backstory than the other two
Probably a combination of being the oldest and remembering their parents more and being a sort of mom for the other two while they were in the orphanage
When Gru went to adopt the girls, he said to Miss Hattie that her face looks "como un burro"
Como un burro means like a donkey
That's why she didn't like it when she looked up the meaning in the Spanish dictionary.
@@JenniferPinto In spanish they changed it for something different but more realistic. Gru says in spanish "usted tiene un cuerpo como de tololoche", that means "you have a body like a double bass" but is a different name since tololoche doesn't have a translation to english, so in spanish and didn't know what it was until she checked it in a synonymous dictionary instead of a spanish dictionary.
A double bass is a huge string instrument. And she indeed looks like one.
A less charitable man might translate it as 'you have a face like an ass'.

That's how you get ahead in villainy! You be organised, so no-one can get one over on you!
Good to see you’re reacting to the first _Despicable Me_ film and for Illumination’s debut animated film it’s easily one of their best. I really enjoy Gru’s evolution in the film that he originally wanted to steal the moon to become the greatest villain once again and decided to hire the girls just for his own selfish reasons. Eventually Gru starts to warm up to the orphaned girls and eventually become their adoptive father.
Looking forward to the rest of the _Despicable Me/Minions_ films and apparently it’s worth noting if you notice the animation quality and frame rate of the first film to the later Despicable Me/Minions sequels it’s very noticeable considering the first film had a $69 million budget while the Despicable Me sequels/spin-offs had a $76-$85 million budget hence the movement and texture of the first movie being more like a direct-to-video or a CG TV series quality.
Every time someone says a movie had a whatever-million dollar budget, my mind is blown. It’s so crazy to think that every movie has spent some hundred thousands to hundred millions!
If you haven't seen Megamind, you should definitely check it out. It came out 5 months after Despicable Me and was overshadowed by it and interpreted by viewers as copying the "protagonist is a villain" idea, in spite of the fact that Megamind's plot was ironed out well before Despicable Me was released. That's why it isn't better known. But it is hilarious.
I thought there was a huge gap in years between them, I guess I just came across megamind first as a kid
YESSSS I love Megamind!!
I thought he already reacted to Megamind, but if he hasn't I agree he really needs to :) It's a very good movie.
The way you respond to children and parenting in movies is so sweet. If you ever have children, they will be so lucky to have you as a father!
As for me, having grown up with an emotionally abusive parent, watching your reactions to movies adressing family dynamics has been really healing in a way and it helps a lot to get your point of view on the presented situations, as I am aware mine can be quite skewed by my experiences.
I agree! It's very refreshing to hear someone else's point of view, and has definitely helped me realize a lot of things from my childhood weren't healthy lol. It's so great to hear it though, because then I can be careful to try and not make the same mistakes
@@ickylynn6155 Exactly! I really want to have children at some point but I'm very aware of the danger of repeating the abuse, no matter how hard I try not to. So the different perspective is incredibly helpful for my self-awareness.
33:41 I don't know if you caught the meaning there or not. Gru's not the one that called; Nefario is. "If you don't do something about it, then I will." Yes, Gru packed them up and put them in the car, and that was a cruel thing to do. No arguments here. But Nefario was the catalyst for Hattie showing up.
Also, for your questions on why these characters are doing these terrible things throughout the movie (and I love the fact that you are un-jaded enough to keep asking the question...), there is a very simple answer: They're villains. If they want something, they take it. If someone is in their way, they remove them. If something interferes with their plans, the obstruction is dealt with. Swiftly. This is why Gru's arc is so compelling, and why we love a reformed villain so much. They go from cold and unfeeling and remorseless...to someone we could see ourselves sitting and sharing a meal with. The become human, for lack of a better word. They gain empathy and understanding and self-awareness, learning that how they have acted to that point is wrong, *and they strive to do better.*
11:38 It's the first time I've noticed the pyramid 💀👍🏾
That's hilarious
How??
@@leonidasneves7972Cause I used to look more at the building than at the background, if Oscar doesn't point it out I won't even know 🥸
But Gru runs up the side of it at the end of the movie?

Thanks for uploading this, i was having a BAD BAD day...
A despicable day?
😂
But I hope it gets better!
Just about time that you get your way haha
The movie (edit: movie, not franchise!) is amazing in general but the voice acting is impeccable. I don’t know how much they edited them but almost every actor completely disappears into their character and sounds really convincing
Also, it’s one of the rare movies that makes me really enjoy the ridiculous amount of "side quests" as you called them. All of the side characters are entertaining yet they don’t take away from the story nor do they make me feel like they should have made the side story the main one
*cough cough* despicable me 4
HOW HAVE YOU NOT WATCHED THIS YET?
I personally haven't watched a lot of Illumination animation movies lately including Pets, Sing, and other iconic ones. I see them through reels, but not all the way through.

I agree completely, this channel is so wholesome and uplifting. It makes me happy every time I watch.
26:01 i love agnes😂.
Love how gru became like a protective dad
You know what I realised about Despicable Me? It's the "Cold career woman gets stuck with an annoying child and realises she actually wants to be a mother" trope, but flipped so its about a supervillain being reformed by love and becoming a single dad.

Fun fact: Ceo of Illumination animation studio of the movies such as the Despicable me franchise, sing, secrets life of pets and many others. Christhoper Meleandre is the same person who was a Executive producer of first Blue Sky studio movies! Like ice age, robots, ice age 2 and horton hears a who!

The whole Bank of Evil plotline becomes very salient when you remember the bank crashed just two years before this movie came out.
The first Despicable Me is really good but I can’t say for the others. But I do like the second one as well.
The second film is ok. They're still focusing on the family dynamics, rather than the stupid yellow blobs like in films 3 and 4.
I like 2 as well
I think 2 is a little better than the first
The second one is better than the first.
HIGHLY recommend "Over The Hedge"
It's so fluffy!! Lol best part of the movie 🤣
16:57 Perfect template for a Meme😂
I watched this for Father’s Day, best father/daughter film ever!! 🥰
hahaha you giggle at his parenting. But I assure you it is like this. and MORE. non stop question asking, getting into anything, mocking the parent, back talking, high energy at bedtime, having a million and a half excuses every night on why they cant sleep(and they use them allll), And so much more. Also Dont forget. " I need more water, I gotta get another hug, I gotta go pee, I have a pain in my eye, and so on and son forth for 2 hours. so Groo is doing great lol and reading stories every night is a thing too.
I giggle because it’s too accurate 😆😆 I had a new brother at 12 so I got the lite version of that haha. Got a lot to do but honestly can’t wait.

You’ve got to watch The Minion Movie! It’s their origin story and works as a standalone as well, so funny. The second Despicable Me is also very good and we see a lot more of the kids’ characters.
It probably the worse movie of the franchise though 😅

"You Should Be Dancin'" was the song I performed to in 5th grade talent show...such an awesome song from Saturday Night Fever. "What you doin' with your rhythm tonight?...You should be dancin', yeah!"
I know I've given you a lot of recommendations in the past, but I have another one: Horton Hears a Who!
YES!!
Cinema Therapy actually just did a villain therapy on Gru from this movie. It's a really interesting look at his character. But yeah... Gru is pretty awesome as a character, and I'm so glad they didn't pull back on his early-movie villainy.
In any event, Illumination actually does a lot of good work. I highly recommend looking into Sing and Sing 2. They may not come across as much, but they are honestly amazing stories!
Not every animation that came out from these guys was a winner, but this one sure was.
When u said "Coco couch" my baby brother started up Cocomelon and thats all i could hear u say🤣
the fact that this is illumination's first project
The lady over the orphanage is the true villain in this movie.

19:15 It is thought that the minion singing Copacabana is a reference to Friends! He has the circular Rachel hair and wears a pink dress which is what Rachel wears to Mindy's wedding and sings Copacabana.

I love your reactions so much. It’s like watching a movie with some guy I don’t know but it’s awesome
Gosh, watching movies with this guy is sweetly overwhelming! >
So, I really love how they show that Gru came to adore those girls and when it came down to it, he had to choose between being a villain or being a dad. He had the wrong choice basically made for him, but he more than made up for it.
Pharell is the entire soundtrack to this movie
Okay, but you need to watch minions!! You will adore Bob 🤣😍
Love your vids bro, keep up the good work ❤
This movie is so despicably hilarious. The minions are so funny. I love the casts and Pharrell Williams songs, especially memorable moments
🎵🎵🎵🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣🤣
The Despicable Me movies are a lot of fun. Regarding Vector's issues, well, he is truly evil, and has a truly evil dad who made him the way he is, Gru on the other hand is not evil, he is actually a pretty nice guy, who just lacked a supportive mother, so he got a little bitter. The way he treats the minions, like family, even before he met the girls, says a lot about him. People who are "evil" mostly just care about themselves. As I said, these movies are fun, even the sequels are worth watching. And I might be in minority here, but I actually don't hate the minions, maybe because I enjoy a little slapstick now and then 😁
Victor Is the coolest villain here

I've been watching Cocoa Couch since you've reacted to ATLA and now you're watching one of my favorite franchises! Despicable Me and Minions is fantastic. I want to recommend a show called A Series of Unfortunate Events if you're looking to add something to your list. It's a grim but hilarious tale based off a series of books that it adapts pretty well.
Hey, I recently discovered your channel and the way you genuinely react to the movies, particularly Disney classics, made me subscribe! It's quite interesting to see how an adult reacts for the first time to the movies that were part of many of our childhoods! I also love how you are very observant in small details that even I didn't notice before, even though I've seen these movies so many times. I have some recommendations, if you're interested, of some of my favorite movies that you might not have seen yet: Brother Bear (prepare your heart for this one lol), Howl's Moving Castle, El Dorado (one of the best), Lion King 2 (personally I love this one even more than the first movie) Pocahontas, Lady and the Tramp (if you love dogs, prepare your heart for this one too lol), Bambi. Hope you like any of these and keep being who you are 😊
