Super happy for Gluto! He worked really hard for this for months and made many awesome comebacks this tournament, and was due for a major win like this based upon his recent playing. I think he's #3 in the world right now, and with momentum. Leo Spargo Gluto Light atm imo (tweek is super amazing at his best but not better recent results than these 4, proto was great at summit and could be top 5 too).

Fun fact: Aside Mr. R's win at the Smash 4 Sky Invitational (which was literally a day 1 tournament), this is the first time an EU player has EVER won a North American major in a post-Melee Smash game. Congrats to Gluto!

The fact that Leo befriended him and trained with him, even though this could potentially increase the chances of being beat, shows how humble and aligned and kind he is. As fantastic as it is to be Mexican and have him to represent the country, I'm more amazed by his sportsmanship and persona than his skills themselves. Props to Gluto! What a set.

@@alangodinez5487 it's more of a clever improving method. You can only get better if you fight against enemys in your league or higher. Mkleo needs someone to practise with like everyone else. Fighting these strong opponents only in tournaments isn't enough.

Leo is such a kind dude. You can really see his happiness when his friend Glutony won. I don’t see how anyone can hate Mkleo. Legit wish I was friends with him irl.
These two are inspiring to see at the top like they are. They're sportsmen through and through and they deserve all the success they work for. It was heartwarming to see such a fierce competition end with such a friendly, happy moment.
Yeah, you could tell part of Leo wanted Gluttony to get a win, but at the same time, he showed him no mercy in game... 100% deserved trophy... ruthless competitors in game, friends outside the game, you love to see it.
Gluto really needed this victory, he's had so many majors where you knew he had the skill but would lose to Leo in grands and while this was a nail biter and a comeback he finally did it. when he got 2nd at Genesis I knew the major win was gonna happen one day. Also shoutouts to Mkleo, you could tell that he was happy for his friend and the respect he has for him. We couldn't have a better #1 player than Leo, he brings us so many good sets and is just a respectful person. This win wouldn't of felt as special if Gluto didn't play Leo in grands. Now the only big top players that Gluto consistently loses to that he's never beaten that he has to beat are Tweek and Tea. Other than that congrats and can't wait for the future of his career! If he keeps this success up he really has a shot to be top 3 maybe even top 2.

Without a doubt the best Grand Finals of the year so far, and one of the most tense Grand Finals in the game's history. Glutonny's arc throughout the past few months has been so inspiring.
With a total game count of 7-6. Both players 3-1'd each other to then have the most nail biting game 5 reset. Poetry.
Extremely happy for Glutonny to beat MkLeo and winning America's first platinum event! That bonding moment between two close friends at the end is amazing.

I have no idea if its actually how Gluttony decided to go for the final u air to end game 5 of the second set, but at around 38:24 you can see a similar situation where gluto is grounded and mkleo does a dash back->dash forward-> jump right by the egde to try to get out of the corner. The very next time it happens, Glutonny does a shorthop landing up air to beat the same option MKLeo had previously used after he dashed back to the edge and converted into a waft to end the tournament. Amazing players and an amazing grand finals

Genesis had nearly 2,000 attendees and more than 90% of the top 50 of OrionRank in attendance, therefore it was classified as a supermajor. Pound had a bit more than 400 total with many top players dropping out before the tournament began. Other Pounds may have, in the past, had enough top players and people in general in attendance to qualify for a supermajor, but this one did not.
You may be confused with VGBC defining it as a Platinum event, but that’s solely for the purpose of the Smash World Tour
As for who and what defines the limit for how many players need to attend to make it a supermajor, these are usually calculated by groups or respected statisticians within the smash community. Previously, Panda Global had the definitive/leading public algorithm for this, but due to the disruption caused by the pandemic, the most reputable public source for defining a supermajor has been OrionRank, done by Bernard’s Loop. You can look it up online through his twitter or Google; many smash content creators also did reviews of his Top 150 players list he did in Panda’s absence, so you could probably find his resources on TH-cam, as well.
Alternatively, you can always look up which tournaments are majors or supermajors on Competitive Gaming Wikis like Liquidpedia, which has a list of all recorded majors and supermajors, both differentiated from one another

I saw some fantastic, top level Smash here. Incredible players, Gluto deserved the win. Gotta love the friendship and sportsmanship.
I HIGHLY recommend Coney's video on this tournament that will EVENTUALLY come out into TH-cam format. He had certain music clips that he played for each player when they did something, and when that something was done really well, he sped up the music. The stream really peaked at grands IMO. Made this tournament even more entertaining, and his chat was filled with actual people and not copypastas

Glutonny has finally come a long way since starting as the top Wario prodigy in the Brawl era. 3rd at Delfino Maza Reta invitational, 2nd at Genesis 8 and winning Pound 2022 while taking 2 sets over MKLeo. Also, the hard work that he has put in adapting to swordie/zoner matchups with Wario is a significant innovation to the yellow plumber's potential in the Ultimate metagame.

It's great to see the competitive scene back to it's former glory. Also it's funny I fell asleep after the Leo vs riddles set and then I woke up and saw Leo up a game and gluto in losers and though this is just a classic Leo losers grands and went back to sleep but I then in the morning I was shocked to see that gluto somehow still pulled it back in the end lmao. It's hard enough beating Leo, it's another thing entirely when you beat him after he "downloads" you.

I don't think I've ever seen MKLeo shaken before but here 31:11 he clearly felt in danger and started throwing moves just to fish for the KO until he gets hard punish realize he can't be doing that.
Gluto vs Leo is one of those few rivalries where your happy no matter who wins.
These two sets that these guys had a pound were some of the most intense sets I’ve watched in a while
Glutonny trapped Leo at the ledge and punished his get up 9/10 times
On the other hand Leo couldn’t ledge trap Glutonny as well, with a success of maybe 2/10.
Very incorrect leo ledge trapped gluto to hell n back this set, I recommend rewatching.
This is one of the longest set and the greatest set in the history of Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Pretty crazy how socal went from being the strongest region in smash 4 to being almost irrelevant a few years into ult. Seeing the top 2 contenders here being from Mexico and France is pretty cool
