  • We've already compared the i30 N vs Golf GTI vs Type R vs 308 GTi - but here is our detailed review of the 2018 Hyundai i30 N Performance, viewed on its own. We drive the i30 N 2018 on road and on track to see why this hot hatch is such a big deal. Is it the best of the bunch? Tom goes back to find out…
    What do you think of the i30 N? Is this the best hot hatch on the market? Is it the second coming of Jesus? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

    We've already compared the i30 N to its rivals - now, come on a detailed look at the Hyundai i30 N Performance Pack, driven on road and on track in Australia. We find out why it stands up best when driven hard on the racetrack.

    Great review. Chasing Cars has become my go-to channel now for vehicle reviews. Tom's presentation is informative, genuine and lacks the often biased content influenced by manufacturers. We know who they are..don't we! Well done👍

      Having lived in the States, I guess they had to make it a bit 'weider' than the already fab i30N/Elantra GT N. Over The Top Perception (esp looks), there, is half the battle.

    Thank you for another review. I sat in the seats and found them to be unusually hard and uncomfortable. The cushioning felt stiff with minimal give. Just by way of comparison how did you find these seats compared to the Type R seats?

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you try the cloth seats, or the leather/suede seats in the Luxury Pack? Either way, the Type R's seats are substantially tighter, more snug, and more supportive - but the Honda won't fit really big body types.

    • @davidx8152
      @davidx8152 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chasing Cars Thanks Tom for getting in touch so swiftly, really appreciate it. I believe it was the partial leather /cloth seats. They would retract automatically to the rear most setting when you stop the engine. Are you saying the cloth seats are more comfortable? I personally prefer cloth materials.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best bet would be to try both. I reckon the cloth seat has more give, in the seat padding that is, but the leather/suede seats offer more actual leg support (because the electric adjustment includes under-thigh angle adjustment, which for me, is a big deal).

  • @colino72

    Credit to Hyundai, but when I was looking recently I would have had to either wait for about 4 months for a car, or pay $48K for a demo that had been spec'd up. In contrast I got a Golf GTI exec driven with 2.4k on the clock for $39K. Supply chain is important, so they need to get that working. You also have to question how many people will actually WANT to wring its neck on a race track. And a minor point I could live with - that screen just looks clumsy as hell. Golf interior is still a much more sorted out and classy environment.

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite the opposite. Limited supply means prices will stay fairly high. $39,990 list - but you have to add on roads at a minimum.

    How does it drive compared to Golf GTI?

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Faster out of corners (for now, until GTI gets its LSD back), much better and louder exhaust note, but ultimately heavier and more cumbersome to really throw around.

    Wow. Cars in Australia are expensive. A Golf R is about $42K in Canada

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's very cheap, yeah. That said, our Golf R starts at $47,490 here, for the Grid model, which isn't that much more really. Our standard Golf R (from $53,490) has all the overseas options fitted to it.

      It is. But a big win for Hyundai Australia. Shows they have some real influence in the broader Hyundai engineering world.

  • @addzy85
    @addzy85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fact that VW Golf has already upped its power for the MY19 shows that Hyundai has them shaking in their boots! Golf has the heritage and the badge, but dropping the manual for MY19 it may have lost the drivers choice to the Koreans...

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is an interesting development. Hyundai have rattled the sabre. But what do you think of the fact that sub-10% of GTI buyers were choosing the manual?

    • @addzy85
      @addzy85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chasing Cars it’s still 10%. There is still a market for them in Australia so at least offer the car as special order to allow buyers who want a manual GTI the option. It is a business decision more than ‘we are listening to our buyers’. It’s just what manufacturers are doing, apparently purchases of manual cars are declining, but there isn’t many options anymore unless you want the base vehicle...

    • @scollyutube
      @scollyutube 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say Hyundai are ruiing the fact they didn't have an auto option available on launch and its 12 months away more tbh than VW are worried.

    • @addzy85
      @addzy85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      scollyutube VW will certainly sell more purely based on the fact they have the DSG.

    • @tye722
      @tye722 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      VW already had this model in the form of the 2017 performance edition 1. It’s the same spec as what the my19 will be. Only the performance edition 1 was only limited to 150

    The interior finish is a shame. If they spent a little time on the door trims, elec window buttons, mirror adjustments, rear air vents etc. It would be much more tempting.

    • @madrx2
      @madrx2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheWretchedWorld are you stupid? It's a hot hatch but you've gotta sit somewhere. A few simple items can change the way the whole car feels.

    • @TheWretchedWorld
      @TheWretchedWorld 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If i wanted a nice interior id buy a luxury car not a hot hatch. For a car like a hot hatch id rather the manufacturer put all their time and effort into everything thats performance related i.e engine transmission suspension/chassis and overal synergy between these components. It appears that this is what Hyundai has done and am grateful for that.
