This song brings tears to this grown man's eyes !!! As a 57 year old Mama's Boy , I can't imagine the pain he felt when he lost his Mom at 18 , but this is a Glorious Tribute to his Mom , Sister , and Baby Daughter !!!!!
Don’t you ever change Your voices are so real and your choice of songs astounds me. Don’t let the industry change you. Hold true Beautiful is all I can say Thumbs up
Yesterday was my daughter's 3rd birthday. Her mom passed shortly while giving birth but was saved. Listening to this song always reminds me how lucky we were and how things could have been so drastically different. I couldn't do it
just discovered this after a gruelling day, played it twice, had a glass of merlot and money couldn't buy how relaxed I feel, going to check out more videos, cheers guys x.
Hey, Georgie Cat, Iove this band! I was rolling through TH-cam, a few weeks ago, looking for a bit of this or a bit of that when - WHAM! - serendipity struck, and I became an instant fan! For the past hour or so I've been listening to a whole bunch of Mandolin Orange, sippin' a glass or few of a fine dry red, accompanied by a rather well-rolled little joint! Time to roll another one, just like the other one!
a duo of angels could sound no better. a southern accent rests easy on my soul. Townes. . . Dylan. . .these two can cover the greatest poets of our time and make it their own.
it is a gift of Mandolin Orange to share with the world. So many folks here just found and fall in love with you guys. The magical music from the heart enters the world is like an angel descending to the physical reality, guiding us to the utopian garden which is only an eye-closing away. Everyone truly wishes Mandolin Orange to continue doing what they love that makes people love them.
I have a 7 year old daughter and this song has so much meaning. I've listened to it i know 100 times. it's sad but ends with the perfect message. it took me a minute to figure it all out but I'm sure people have their interpretations. it just makes sense to me the way I interpreted it. all their songs are good as well. I would love to see them live.
Sorry I took so long to comment on this song. I can't say more than I've said on the other songs. Wonderful harmony, well written song and beautiful in the simplicity of the arrangement.
these artists are great. I love listing to them, and have heard several songs .. I particularly love the way this man plays mandolin and love the way she plays the violin. I purchased a mandolin oct 2016 and have played it almost every day since .. my guitars collect dust now and im so used to the tiny fretboard that a guitar feels like im holding a 2x4 for the neck area .. lol
Emily & Andrew, thank you very much for your music, which is very quiet and relaxing. It is a slow and beautiful music with a wonderful melody. The guitar and violin excellent match for your voices.
Great song indeed! Lyrics are not mine of course: It's a darling girl, my darling girl with eyes as dark as night And a heart so true but just so strong, set to live a darling life As years roll by, she'll grow up fine and she'll sing a silent song But she'll find your piano and she'll find her wings And she'll sing all the days ... I'm waiting on a ghost To show her love in arms And sweet Marie I can see your faint light shining down on me Well go call on her brother and her sister too Go call on all the town Tell them all today, your darling girl is to wear a wedding gown And though it all came so fast, ten years soon will pass Before there's room for three My sister will grow, my mother will know Soon there will be room for me I'm waiting on a ghost To show her love in arms And sweet Marie I can see your faint light shining down on me Like an old toy top spins and stops Or tag ... in the ball A long summer's wait come walking down She'll be buried in the fall And now she sleeps with you Marie Bittersweet is this old world They tell me soon my sister too will have a darling girl I'm waiting on a ghost To show her love in arms And sweet marie I can see your faint light shining down on me
It's a darling girl, my darling girl With eyes as dark as night and a heart so true But just so strong, set to live a darling life As years roll by, she'll grow up fine She'll sing a silent song But she'll find your piano And she'll find her wings She'll sing all the days long I'm waiting on a ghost, to show her loving arms And sweet Marie, I can see Your faint light shining down on me Go call on her brother, and her sister too Go call on all the town Tell them all today, your darling girl is to wear a wedding gown Though it all came so fast Ten years soon will pass, before there's room for three My sister will grow, my mother will know Soon there will be room for me I'm waiting on a ghost To show her loving arms And sweet Marie, I can see Your faint light shining down on me Like an old toy top, spins and stops Or a tag on the last waltz to end the ball A long summers wait, will come winding down She'll be buried in the fall Now she sleeps with you, Marie Bittersweet is this old world But they tell me soon My sister too will have a darling girl I'm waiting on a ghost To show her loving arms And sweet Marie, I can see Your faint light shining down on me
I love these folks and their music. I wonder if in life Andrew ever tried the fiddle or Emily tries the mandolin. Both those instruments have the same tuning right? GDAE just curious.

Lost my sister Marie a month ago. Couldn’t believe my ears when I heard these lyrics. This tune brought a heavy tear to my eyes.
Shireling , sorry to hear about your sister. Lost my sister two years ago and the hurt is still strong. Brought tears to my eyes too.

Been about 7 years since I've heard this song. Still as beautiful as the night I played it falling asleep in a different time in my life.

Saw these two in Vancouver last Friday for the first time. Wow! This is my favourite song…...
Sometimes music merely blends into the background of our everyday lives and then sometimes music like this reaches into our core and takes root.
Sending love to MO from Down Under, I love the cheeky undertones in these beautiful understated melodies.
Sweetness. Nice one Beehive crew!

Scott, that my friend is a beautiful comment. Kudos,
Would be an awesome first line to a book.
Awesome!
They play such mellow songs, but I never feel melancholy listening to them... Just mellow and content.
Just realized what this song was about... this is one of the most tragic songs I've heard in a long time...
My darling girl, my darling daughter...
legendary folkers
i love you guys
It's a darling girl, my darling girl
With eyes as dark as night and a heart so true
But just so strong, set to live a darling life
As years roll by, she'll grow up fine
She'll sing a silent song

She'll be buried in the fall

Bittersweet is this old world
But they tell me soon
My sister too will have a darling girl
I'm waiting on a ghost
To show her loving arms
And sweet Marie, I can see
Your faint light shining down on me
Nice tune.
Don’t seem like that voice should come from that face. He’s got an old soul trapped in there! Let’s protect these beautiful musical treasures 🙏🏼
I love Mandolin Orange. I love sad songs, But this song made me cry like a little bitch. Maybe its the mulberry wine.
