    Some people run for the trees when they hear the name Philip Glass, but I adore what others might call repetition but which I hear as subtle variations on a theme and a cumulative exhilarating sound. Mr Hardtner is clearly the nonpareil in his field.

    But in addition, the version with Amy Dickson on soprano sax is amazing.

    木琴と鉄琴の使う場所!逆なのでは?

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's the other way around. Originally composed for violin and presented here in an arrangement for marimba and vibraphone.
      はい、その逆です。 もともとはヴァイオリンのために作曲され、マリンバとビブラフォンのための編曲でここに提示されました。
      Hope, it's okay with Google-Translation. ;-)

    All of this is majestic, but that section at 5.53 utterly thrills me.

    How did he play this from memory?

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The explanation is simple, but the implementation needs some experience in the rehearsal. ;-)
      Frequent repetition automates the technical processes. Then the compositional approach of minimal music helps you to think in patterns and loops. At the end of the rehearsal you have to remember "only" the individual points for the next loop.
      The mental challenge is not to confuse the minimal changes and variations in the process. Concentration is a great help here, especially if you memorize the entire Philip Glass concert together with the Marimba Concerto by Ney Rosauro in one performance. (Looks here: th-cam.com/video/TdMn-iVWc40/w-d-xo.html)
      But some practice in the musical work without printed music notes helps, is a good mental workout and keeps you mentally young! ;-)All best, Roland Härdtner

    What about Gubaidulina's "Glorious Percussion". What do You think about this Masterpiece???

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a very interesting and efectful piece! In the performance with the Berliner Philharmoniker, it was just a lot of fun to see nice colleagues again after many years.

      I really think that S. Gubaidulina found a NEW LANGUAGE OF MUSIC - the language of musical forms.

    Great arrangement. Beautifully played. you have realized a piece much better suited to keyboards than violin for the solo, although as a percussionist I may be a little biased.

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much Russell Fane for your feedback. Yes, the imagination to make this piece maybe not better but with a new sound and transparence of rhythmical structures was the motivation to this arrangement. Happy to get a confirmation like your comment! :-)

      Russell Fane this just shows how badly written this piece is for violin.

    The chordal technique is not suitable for violin, so as far as technical situation is concerned, it's actually more idiomatic for marimba. The "violin concerto", as beautiful as it sounds, the violin solo part is awful.

    • @2eleven48
      @2eleven48 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Glass, the composer, may just disagree with that opinion.
