  • In this episode, we discuss whether or not lucet braiding is likely to have been used in the middle ages, by examining the available evidence.
We look at what lucet braiding is and teach you how you can produce a lucet cord using only your bare hands.

Our channel is intended to discuss the skills needed to reenact, demonstrate and teach. We also discuss the historic context and research behind our findings.
Popula Urbanum is latin for people of the city. We are recreating the burgeoning middle classes in the 14th century.

Thanks for a good catch up on the state of the evidence. I have honestly lost track of whether lucets are totally medieval or totally not over the years.
I would think twice before using lucet for arming points because the failure of one thread will cause immediate catastrophic failure of the point, which makes your armour drop off. loop braids and tablet braids both offer redundancy because they have a bunch of threads instead of being knitted.

Agreed a single tread is not ideal for arming points. We have however used this quite successfully for fine cordage for things such as lashing daggers and the like with linen thread

@@PopulaUrbanum Yeah nice. I have only really made wool lucet cord long time ago and it was very stretchy.

Hi there! I’m new to your Chanel, great work! Perhaps you addressed this in a video I have not yet seen, but I am curious as to what language you speak in your greeting? Thank you and I look forward to more videos!

Hey, thanks glad you enjoy the channel, what we are speaking is Te Reo, or Maori. New Zealand has two official languages English and Te Reo
