While nothing is impossible, I really do believe that this concept is very difficult due to the nature of the character, both in maturity and chaotic thought patterns. #batmanarkham #batman #Joker

@@majorjustice2483 We got nothing story related, it was just a playable version of the joker for asylum maps. Pretty underwhelming for me at least.
Oh and you couldn’t play the updated version outside of a brief flashback and Arkham Origins multiplayer, which is dead.
You could make it so joker goes after different gangs in Gotham like how him and two face were done in Arkham city
Jamie Mckell that would be awesome!!! The atmosphere of Arkham city, however non realistic it was, was absolutely awesome. The gang wars and stuff was super cool, and just knowing little stuff about the world with, for example, seeing where the gangs are located in the city, and hearing them talk about the city gave the city a really... I dunno just realistic feel. It really brought you into the world. All of the Arkham games are really good at that to be honest. Your idea is exactly what I was thinking of bro that’d be sick

I would like to see a batman and the joker game where batman and the joker are constantly at odds and every time he does something truly psychotic and evil, you get to play as him and experience a small part of his backstory. You would see how he became who he is and if they pull it off right, sympathize with him. Then at the end of the game there is a big event and you have to chose if you will play as batman or the joker for this final part. Just to add this would be an earlier version of the joker who has been off the rails for a few years but is not doing the darkest of things he has done. If they started off with him just doing psychotic things for the joke but then finds something which gives him a motivation for his plan, they could really tell a story. If at the end when you make your decision and you have to pick between the joker and batman it would really be a decision on if you were going to make the good decision for most people but turn the joker into the monster he is today (Batman’s side) or to make the good decision for few people but save Gotham from the monster that the joker could become.
I think what makes joker so fun is that he isn't supposed to be sympathetic
I like what ur saying it’s kinda like the liu kang and shang tsung ending of mortal kombat 11 aftermath but what’s different about joker and batman is that no matter what descion you make towards the end of the game as you say one will save the other
When playing the arkham games I have often thought about how frightening it would be to be a goon like when batman comes in and takes down everybody around you and also being jokers goon would be terrifying by itself so I think it would be interesting if there was a game or just any kind of story made from a goons perspective
Predator maps would be absolutely dreadful

I think there could be a game where you play as an already established Joker, and over the course of the story you he'll be put in situations that remind him of how he became the Joker, and then the story will flashback to his pre-Joker life, except every time it does it'll be completely different, with each flashback basically portraying him as having a different life. That way, you can play as the Joker and blow crap up and cause mayhem, but it'll stay true to the "multiple choice" origin story thing that is canon to the comics.
We need a 30 hour long Joker card game where you just play poker and blackjack with a bunch of random dudes

Jokers obsessions, and way of thinking is his own worse enemy. I'd have Batman be in the game.
But I'd have Jokers downfall come from Joker himself.

But the driving force is just "a day in the life of the Joker", where you're pretty much building up to one of his insane death trap mind games with Batman, and you see sort of the "behind the scenes" of what he does to set up all these sick jokes to try and make Batman crack-
I also think that in order to compensate for how dark the character's actions are, you need to have the tone be very self aware and sort of...well, comical-
You need to make the evil clown and his gang actually funny-
With this weird mix between campy and light, and dark and twisted.
With less of a focus on the gory details and more of a focus on how Joker would view his own "jokes".
This is a very weird connection to make, but think pyro land from TF2, TF2 is an inherently violent game where the player characters literally run around, gun each other down and burn each other to death, screaming until they burst into gore or fall dead on the ground before respawning, yet in the canon of the world, inside a pyro's mind is this place called "pyro land", where it's all the hallucinations of this pyromaniac, and they see things in a very light and chipper mood where they're not shooting flames out a flame thrower, they're blowing bubbles out a blow horn, and they're not cutting people with an axe, they're stuffing lolipops into fairies mouths-
Something with that tone-
But more grounded so as to not give away too much of Joker's character, maybe as you do all these things, you have Joker's internal monologue going on and constantly cracking jokes to keep things from ever getting TOO serious. Like Joker himself is the filter that keeps the player from being horrified by anything that's going on, with rare moments of sobriety to sort of shake things up and remind people "You are the bad guy here, and you will be stopped."
That being said as for the technical side of the game, definitely GTA like where you're going around and completing missions while also causing chaos, like-
I imagine the main driving force outside of the main plot of setting up a "play date" with Batman, would be divided between three things, one, getting enough money to execute these plans, two, keeping other super criminals from interupting and invading your territory, and three, causing just enough chaos to achieve your goals, but not so much that Batman catches you too early, like pretty much, you can go up to four stars safely with only cops and such going after you, but if you reach five, then you start getting the bat family after you, and it will be almost impossible to escape using normal tactics from that point on, and you'll either need to be very well prepared to shake them off, or you're just screwed and it's game over, like getting killed or captured in GTA.
So it's almost like a mix between a really elaborate heist, a gang vs gang story, and a chaos simulator-
Where you're constantly pushing things just to the limit but not quite far enough to where people are just sick of you and are willing to chase you to the ends of the earth-

I feel like a game where you play as the villain could be fun, but Joker might be a bad choice, for the reasons you mentioned. But someone like Bane, Scarecrow, or Mr. Freeze, I feel could work.

I think if you were to have a Joker game, a good place to start would be escaping Arkham. Like a “choose your own path” sort of layout. Starting in your cell and figuring out your inmate schedule, manipulating guards and orderlies, fashioning or finding weapons, etc. that could be the first half or third of the game. Then the rest could be you trying to organize your gang and getting the word out that you’re back without alerting Batman of your whereabouts (some sort of detection system could be in place and if you set it all the way off you can run from or fight Batman). Then you’d have to figure out the “punchline” to your own story. Like maybe you wanna go serious and blow up the GCPD, or maybe you wanna go zany and fly a hot air ballon dropping water balloons filled with Joker venom, all depending on what supplies you gather and how many henchmen you’ve been able to acquire. You could build up your gang to take over turf from other villains. If Batman catches you, then maybe you’d have to break out of Arkham again in a different fashion. And have it open world like GTA where the game doesn’t encourage you to go on a mass killing spree, but if you wanted to walk the streets gunning down civilians, you’d have the freedom to do so but you would risk Batman finding and apprehending you. You could send your henchmen on missions, steal costumes from rival gangs to make your men frame another gang for your actions and throwing off the GCPD and Batman. Your ultimate goal would be to cause as much chaos without getting caught. Maybe Harley left him and his personal goal is to try and get his favorite toy back, and like the final battle would be against poison ivy. I think a Joker game could be really fun if done correctly, but it would have to avoid just telling the player to go on a shooting spree. Give the player some specific goals with a multitude of avenues to accomplish them and it would be a lot more plausible to make this thing real.

With Spider-Man it's excusable because he doesn't want to kill people so he's holding back, but the other Avengers don't follow that rule. Plus the graphics looked awful, not to mention Black Widow looking like Lord Farquaad. And it'll be most likely another multiplayer crapper

Honestly, I can’t stop thinking about how cool a boss fight against batman as joker would actually be. Maybe the dark knight could almost serve as a random, super tough boss that could show up at various points in the game to beat you up. I’m imagining almost something similar to the nemesis system from shadow of mordor, where batman could just show up and you’d have to either deal with him somehow, or make your escape. I think it would serve REALLY well to actually put the real fear of the dark knight in our hearts.
@ 3:33 when you said the word “sadistic” I was automatically thinking of characters like Negan from The Walking Dead.
I think it would be a cool idea of just straight up adapting a comic like “Death in the family” and give you the chance to jump back and forth from the joker and Batman helping both sides. Sure everyone would know the story and I don’t want it to be like a telltale game either! But if done in an Arkham style hoping from both perspectives during the story it would be pretty cool.

What i would do is have a more sandbox style action system. include hallucinations like in hellsblade and have the story be very loose part of the game. Have a focus on his grip on reality slowing changing and the story would branch into many ways some of which only happen in his head.

I think they can do an entire game if it revolves around joker escaping arkham or some place like that. Perhaps the mob captured him to seize his arms, or maybe the Arkham guards are sadistic so you can feel less like you’re just killing innocent civilians. It could show joker as being stealthy, a hand to hand fighter, and see him retrieve his gadgets (joy buzzer, toy gun, etc) once he escapes the game ends with him plotting his next scheme with the newly seized arms from the mob or perhaps getting “dirt” on other villains to force them to do his work (I.e. finding scarecrows formula he lost and blackmailing him for it, a way to cure Nora, etc) however a free-roam game wouldn’t work. It would need to be held within some sort of environment where he isn’t necessarily being a good guy, but the people he’s going against aren’t completely innocent. If you wanted something more true to character, throw some normal convicts in there and have him use joker gas on them.
The joker game would not be easy but it would be possible
Story: Split it into 4 chapters.
Chapter 1: we play as a young joker before he was joker as a comedian and has to do a robbery of Ace Chemicals to make enough money to support his family but he's accomplices betray him and toss him in a vat of acid and he becomes the joker
Chapter 2: The new Joker struggles with his new look and broken mental state and in a blind rage he kills his wife and child driving him over the edge and he goes on a crime spree.
Chapter 3: He gets confronted by Batman and fights him for the first time and the rest of the chapter is Joker going on crime sprees and Batman trying to stop him until the end where he does stop him and sends him to blackgate where he meets Harley
Chapter 4: Harley helps Joker break out and they become the duo we all know and confront the batman. Joker finds Batmans identity but doesn't care that much, he just uses it to get to the Batman since he know Bruce is just the mask. The final showdown has a fist fight with Batman and Joker and Batman obviously wins and sends Joker back to Blackgate. The chapter ends with Joker laughing hysterically and it cuts to credits but an end credits scene shows Harley breaking him out.
Gameplay: Combat gameplay will have a similar combat style to the Deadpool game, with you being able to mix your guns, knife, and other gadgets with your fists. Traversal could be like GTA or you could give Joker some sort if gadget similar to Batmans grappling hook. Communication and relationship building would also be a big part of the game with your responses powering how you treat everyone around you, for example you could actually be nice to Harley and get attached kinda like Jared Letos Joker or you could use her like a classic Joker.
Random details: I can't decide this so you guys get to, should said game have a character creator similar to GTA or just different skins like Spider-Man PS4 or Batman Arkham?
I think they'd be able to pull it off, but it would take near perfect storytelling. I picture you playing as the Joker when he is just starting out, and his intentions aren't clear. You start doing heists and climbing up the ranks of the criminal underworld because of his unstable nature. At this point he only wants to make a fortune out of the suffering of others, but he has no clear purpose. As you go along you get flashbacks of Killing Joke and paint him as a tragic character, until you find Batman trying to stop one of your crimes. Suddenly the Joker finds purpose and sees that he's destined to fight this guy till the end of his days or sth like that. It would be a great opportunity to delve deep into the mind of the character, but even with a clear story direction this would be incredibly difficult to pull off. You could also have a dlc pack were you are in Arkham and you meet Harley for the first time.
Why would there be a Joker game at all? I'm not hatin', I just find it odd.

I guess because Batman and his whole mythos totally overshadows most of DC in the mainstream. I don't think it would ever happen though. Any number of other things seem more likely. Nightwing, Tim Drake Robin, Barbara and Cassandra Cain Batgirl, Kate Kane Batwoman, Catwoman, Azrael, Red Hood and the Outlaws. He just has too many side characters with a ton of their own comics to pull from to focus on someone that would present so many fundamental issues like Joker.
Money.
To me it's also confusing for there to be a one and for me its mostly the combat. Like a bloody and gritty combat game has been done. But for me I'm like jokers combat skills and gadgets seem to be a response to all the times he has fought batman. Also due to there being the lack of knowledge about his origins whether it be a discharged vet, a failed hit man or a man who just had a bad day it's hard for me to see it work. Like i played Arkham origins and saw his fight arena and I still dont get where his combat skills come from since that game is meant to set it up as their first meeting. And to me the comics have built him up as some one who has learned from experiences and failures to be someone who can go toe to toe with harley and also make other super heroes think carefully if they want to fight him. And still be a master manipulator type of bad guy who thinks outside the box. Like I cant wrap my mind around that since in all honesty batman should stomp joker in a one v one fight. But he cant. Hell just watching anything that involves modern day joker you can see he has tech skills in addition to being a solid fighter and how he strategizes and Carrie's out plans. But that's just my thoughts, I want a reason for how he became that good and how it fits into such a games combat system.

I would love if they did Joker just like at the end of Killing Joke. He's mostly insane, but has a few moments where he reflects, knows what he's doing is bad, but he knows he's too far gone for any progress or help to be made. It'd be a sad situation, and make sympathy for his character.
His violence, his sadness, his outright insanity could be great if he had multiple mental illnesses to "justify" it in his mind, but you have glimpses of sanity come through every now and again. It could be cool, but WB would never allow it. Which sucks.
Sal from comicpop made the observation that in killing joke, joker talks like a person. After hearing that it's one of the things I appreciate most of the book.
I think I'd go in the direction of a gang war in Gotham and have you play as the Joker trying take territory from other villain gangs. Maybe have Batman pop up at various points to try and end it

I always had this fantasy that rocksteady was going to release a batman Arkham asylum game but from jokers perspective with his own story during the events and maybe even playing as both him and harley
I mean u could use the joker book by Brian arzzelo by showing a rise to power and could rly show us the relationship of harly and joker in a way that wasn’t shown in arkum
U could play as joker becoming joker and going through a back story from jokers twisted point of view and how he sees and has met batman and if rocksteady made the game u could play as joker through the Arkham story line again through his point of view which could help show the difference and similarities of batman the game could show what joker thinks and believes in a new way
Joker in the Matter of Family DLC was his best portrayal in the Arkham series. Genuinely scary, especially those game over screens.

I think it could be done with a choice system of sorts like you do missions and depending on who you kill who you leave alive and how many people you kill you end up with your own version of the joker like villain joker, vigilante joker from telltale
I agree with all your points. And the only way this would really work story wise is if it's a origin before Batman, or Batman's away from Gotham doing something with the Justice League. Or a scenario where Bman is dead.

I have a bad habit of always being late to these topics...as a recent subscriber it sucks to miss the chance to share my opinion. I'll do so anyway even though it'll never be seen.
The perfect template for a joker videogame lies in combining the precedent set by GTA 5 (including a satyircal DARK sense of humor that further allows you to see the world through HIS eyes) and the graphic novel "Joker" by Brian Azzarello with art by Lee Bermejo... A more gritty, realistic, grounded take on the character and the other villains. Specifically the way the plot follows a recently paroled Joker re-establishing himself as the prince of crime in Gotham city... it would be VERY hard as you have stated but I think THIS would be the best approach.

What about a Joker game where you revive his classic stories? You start as Red Hood in the first minutes, fall in the acid, become the Joker and start redoing some events of the comics, like the Batman 1 from 1940 , a Death in the Family, The Killing Joke...

I think the obvious answer to make the endless violence and homicide work in a Joker game is him fighting the other rogue's gallery and their thugs. Either set it when the Joker's first starting out (you could have fun with each new game being a different 'origin' in keeping with his multiple choice backstory) or a freshly-sprung-from Arkham and re-establishing his dominance story.
Either way you can have fun boss fights with Scarecrow, Penguin, whoever with an ongoing arc of an unstoppable Batman being the main opposing force and hunting you down. Eventually Batman would catch you and back to Arkham you go. It would set up sequels for the inevitable next time you escape.
My biggest issue with a potential Joker game is,
How do you successfully bring his world view to a game? Is it like silent hill where the screen darkens and his inner monsters begin to influence him? Make it like the movie and you question what is happening the whole time? A beat em up where you just destroy and kill as you feel?
None of these feel right to me for a game for him
The beauty of the Joker is we don't get the joke, only he understands his punchline, and it's hard to imagine creating a game where both he and the player will be the last one laughing
The only way I would see it work is you would have to make the story a gang war of some kind to show that the people he is killing are bad however, that then takes allot away from him because then he is just a mob boss trying to take land.
could you look into a nightwing game. I feel like he's grown up enough to be his own super hero like how batman started slow and more people started liking it. Also nightwing is my favorite DC character. Also love the content.
You could do a choose your story like telltale games where you choose to kill
Like someone else said, I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on playing as a goon/henchmen in the DC Universe. I think it would be super interesting to have a (reluctant) goon character that gets caught up in the wrong crowd and his life leads him to join up with Joker's crew or other crews, possibly to provide for his family. Then, for the goon, you have two antagonists: Joker (or whoever the villain is) who the goon slowly starts to see as insane and pure evil, and a very ruthless, but not murderous, Batman, who the goon sees as just as crazy as the Joker. Kind of use the Joker graphic novel as inspiration. I think this could easily fit into a GTA-esque game or something similar. But it would let you explore both Batman and Joker from different viewpoints.
I'd say go with a mix of Manhunt and Saint's Row for a Joker game. You would play one of the iconic Jokers going against the others inside Joker's head to choose what his next plan in Gotham will be.

Just like games like Bounty Hunter and Republic Commando would be unnecessary with Star Wars fans, but we just like to see a game from a popular characters point of view. We love the Joker, so we'd like to play as him. How hard is that to comprehend?
I think the only way it could be done possible tastefully and even in a fun aspect is to make a Joker game a "choose your own adventure" style. That way every decision and every kill even that you make gives you a different ending/outcome(s).

I think the archetype where there’s a character that is unredeemabley evil, such as Sauron, from Lord of The Rings, or Dracula is very underused nowadays. They don’t exist to be a developed character but merely to develop the protagonist’s. I think a joker-focused game would be good if we saw it from the perspective of Harley Quinn or some other character who could complement him.

the best thing you can do for a joker game is either something so dynamic and unpredictable that we cant really brainstorm it (an open world, interactive story based game where EVERYTHING you do matters) or just focus on a day in the life of joker, going around and causing chaos and destruction for literally no reason other than to build up points (like the chaos meter in just cause 2). that being said a joker game isn't really neccessary.

Godfather 2 style game where you're fighting other Gotham villains for control of the city by taking over rackets. Also have it where if you kill so many civilians then Batman shows up and takes you down, then when that happens you wake up in Arkham and have to escape etc
They could make a game where you’re the joker growing his gang kinda like the first saints row and have Batman show up occasionally as a boss and even have Batman beat you the first time you see him and you have to do a mission of escaping from Arkham
they should show emotion with joker and actually have reasoning by showing how his family died in the game like they did in comics and stuff and show how he turns into a psycho that goes on a killing spree, if they show emotion with him the audience will actually feel remorse and not just sit there in boredom from killing people, they’d put themselves in his shoes

I think it could be a game open world in Gotham where in different places there will be super heroes or important figures to take down (Batman, Gordon, Cyborg etc.). It would work a little bit like in the assassin's creed games where there is different regions with boss target in it that you have to kill to clear the regions but to do that you have to investigate and do side missions to get information on the target. And you have of course random NPC in the street that you could murder if you want just like in a GTA and some side events like bank Robbery or terrorist attacks to add content to the game. And maybe if there was good writers working on the game it could include a storyline with cut screen etc.

NameyNameName maybe at the beginning of the game joker and all the other villains could have commissioner gordon, robin, night wing, and batman and any other people that could stop them in a room and the first mission of the game would just be to blow up the room and then gotham is left to all the other villains to do what they want, obviously this wouldn’t be cannon in the arkham game series, it could be considered lazy writing but who cares that game would be so fun no ones really gonna question it
Something I'd really like to see is a game where you play as the villain and try get world domination or kill the hero or something like that. The closest thing i can think of is lego dc supervillains but that let's you play as villains who do something good in the story of the game. I just want a game where you reak havoc, destroy shit and kill alot

How would you feel about an arkham style deadpool game, one that builds off red hoods fighting style and add like a goofy vehicle like a taco truck for him to get around with a combination of the healing system like x-men origins wolverine
i think that if a joker game was made it should set up the joker story
like the killing joke origin. then you play as him after as he descends into madness.
I would have it be like a gang war but like throw batman in the mix so it's like you have to try to win and take out other gangs like two faces and have some missions you have to run from batman or fuck with him maybe add a mission where you have to break out of Arkham
I think it could work as a linear story game. I don’t think it should be a 20-30 hour game. Maybe 10-15 hours. But I can tell his origin and go through his mob boss psycho side of him, his relationship with Harley, and have him fight Batman from point to point. The end could be that no Russian mission with both people who have hurt him and civilians mixed in the crowd with the point being he doesn’t care if he hits a target or a civilian. The end could be his breaking point.
It be awesome see joker in his world see how he see things not regular person. How joker see it the other person doesn’t see it

I also think that making a joker game focusing on developing his character would be awesome. Joker in Arkham and he breaks out with a plan to get back at Batman and he wants to really try to get Batman to go crazy. So he sets out on a plan to kill robin. You could dive into his strategic mind and have missions to earn other villains trust to keep Batman busy while Joker tries to get him and Robin alone to kill him. This would definitely have to be an open world game and I think the way that would work is somewhat similar to how GTA functions. But in the sense of just going outside is going to draw the cops attention. I also think that this game would be very interesting if you add “choices” into it similar to how Infamous second son worked. But instead of plainly good vs evil it could be “clown prince of crime vs jester of genocide” or something like that. One choice being a more thought out sadistic choice while the other is a just for the fun of it and as a joke choice.
Maybe something like quantum break where you play as a good guy but you get to play or chose what he does

If there was to be an entire game based around the Joker, I would probably like something similar to White Knight, but not like an exact copy of the story, with the same exact plot. I would like if it had a really similar scenario to White Knight, while kind of doing its own thing with the storyline.
I figure we do it something out of Arkham origin section where is weird lucid dream retelling his past, the game could have crazy visual and story that makes no sense given there be thing contradicting that it real and other that it fake, we can have it something like horror with Batman viewed as some monster that you must avoid have it where crimes you comic will attract him and when he on your tale, the game becomes hide seek/defenses of holding off with goons or hostages to keep him busy while you escape
crippling Batgirl too will just be like a gta hitman mission
I would love a game where the Joker goes up against the Batman who laughs. The devolopers could decide who’s the main character or maybe you could choose either one of them. The Batman who laughs would want to stop joker from rampaging and the Joker wouldn’t want a fake bat. I think that would make for some very interesting storytelling and yes I would love for it to be open world @Degenerate Jay
It’d be cool to see a Redhood game, playin as an Anti-hero so you go around killin bad guys but it’s for the good of others. Just something I’ve always wanted
I’d like to a game where you play as Jack Napier first, and then get turned into the joker halfway through
I feel like if you made the game feel like maybe Joker's perspective in an Arkham game it would work well. For example they have planning phases for big crimes, because a lot of jokers schemes in the arkham games require complex planning. You could have a phase before something where you can arrange things differently. For example a hostage situation. You could change how your thugs behave, or how to guard the hostage, and how to mess batman up. And if Joker isn't directly involved, maybe you could play as a thug. When you are directly playing as Joker, it would be cool to have thugs in certain missions. Say if you're invading a police station, you could control Joker's thugs. The tactics they used, what they're doing. For example: You could have them all split up and take cover, have them group up and focus on one target, and other things. Another cool thing you could do with the thugs is changing what gear or weapons they have, which has an impact on how they perform. For example, if you make them more armored, they take more hits but are slower. And if you make them less armored, they move with more speed or agility. Now having Batman in this would be a good main antagonist if done right. You struggle with Batman for a while, using your thugs as a distraction, but you never take him down because Joker doesn't want to kill Batman. Having this happen multiple times would get old fast, which is why it should be more of a final boss thing, but you are aware that Batman is on your tail in this game.
I think maybe a gta style joker game by that I mean how you plan the heists in gta mixed with Arkham style combat
Major Justice that’s not what I meant 🤦♂️ I mean take gta heist planning system and use it for jokers schemes whether that be a heist, mass murder etc and mix with Arkham style combat
I'm only partially joking here but maybe a game kinda like Lego Batman 1 where you can play the level as the villains where you just see them plan and how they caused the chaos to happen back when you were playing as Batman. I feel like something like that could theoretically work even in a darker toned game.
What if there was a joker kills the DC universe, where you have him go against heros and villains in the DC universe and end with him defeating batman, and an open world where you have turf wars with the joker gang in different locations, even bizzare locations (Like joker taking over a lantern corps, if you want to go that far, or just take over Gotham). IDK if that even makes sense, but its just an idea I had.
IDEA: There is a mafia in Gotham trying to destroy everyone (civilian and others) including himself.
He is extremely angry not because he will die or anyone else will die, it's not batman doing it.
So joker becomes an anti hero but still kills anyone (innocent or not) to stop them.
It will kind of be a mix of GTA and the arkham play style and focus on the less brutal side of joker whilst still being like the character.
EDIT: The mafia boss can be Bane after getting tired of being held back from killing batman because of joker.
I know that there can be a couple of issues with that but still. I think it would work
