Onslaught - In Search of Sanity Paradox - Heresy Sacrifice - Soldiers of Misfortune Evildead - Annihilation of Civilization
Awesome list. Love every band and album on it. You're right about Xentrix (for me at least). I love Shattered Existence but For Whose Advantage? is my favorite Xentrix album. If we're talking 80s albums that album dosen't count as it came out in 1990. I dig the 2 most recent albums from Xentrix as well. Bury The Pain and Seven Words are definitely worth checking out.
Agreed. Coroner are incredible. Heard they're working on a new album and have 8 songs so far. I also heard the band are aiming for a 2025 release.🤞🏻🤘🏻No More Color and especially Mental Vortex are my favorite Coroner albums. I know Mental Vortex came out in 91 so it wouldn't count in this video.
Some of my favourites you didn't mention: Sacred Reich - Ignorance Flotsam & Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deceiver (No Place for Disgrace is also a banger) Destruction - Eternal Devastation Exumer - Possessed by Fire Artillery - By Inheritance Wehrmacht - Shark Attack Carnivore - Carnivore
Honestly, I'm kinda upset I'm not into super fast stuff like wehrmacht. The intro to shark attack is probably one of my favorites, along with probably darkness descends by dark angel, but the actual song is too fast for me. Maybe I'll warm up to it eventually. I think it's mostly the vocals. Like dark angel, their songs are pretty fast, but the lyrics are at a more accepting pace. Same with some songs off of suicidal tendencies' debut, like I shot the devil.
Great list, this is what I came up with - 1. Exodus - Bonded By Blood 2. Meliah Rage - Kill To Survive 3. Sepultura - Beneath The Remains 4. Kreator - Extreme Aggression 5. Voivod - Killing Technology 6. Angel Dust - Into The Dark Past 7. Xentrix - Shattered Existence 8. Sodom - Agent Orange 9. Mortal Sin - Mayhemic Destruction 10. Destruction - Infernal Overkill 11. Onslaught - In Search Of Sanity 12. Annihilator - Alice In Hell 13. Nuclear Assault - Survive 14. Paradox - Heresy 15. Atrophy - Socialized Hate
So glad you included No More Color. I wore that tape completely out, then I bought it again. Can't believe that was over 30 years ago. Still an excellent representation of what technical thrash metal should be.
Literally yesterday I decided to rediscover Testament and I checked out Eerie Inhabitants, The New Order and Disciples of the Watch and absolutely fallen in love with this tracks
@@sixxjr ah yeah, it’s so good, also curse of osiris is a banger too. Besides those 2, nothing else grabbed me on titans. I will say lyrically, I feel it’s a step in the right direction since felt like the first 2 albums, just that hopefully the next album is better musically.
@@doomguyrox1156 I agree, if they can do an entire record with tracks of that quality, it could very well be my aoty. Brotherhood of the Snake is amazing too, crazy to think it’s almost a decade old already.
@@MetalTrenches, I was also going to write that Chuck Billy sings on The Legacy. :D You listen to so much stuff that it is inevitable to mix some things up. BTW, great selection! \m/
@@MetalTrenchesare you planning on covering Testament’s discography? I’d love to hear your thoughts on more of their albums. Obviously some not as great as others but overall I feel their catalog is phenomenal.
This is a solid list. Glad to see Voivod and Coroner make it. They don’t get enough credit for how original they were in their respective sounds. Only thing I might add is Nuclear Assault’s Survive (1988). It’s just a fun one that I go back to a lot. But every album on this list is a banger
Yes yes yes to Morbid Saint, a true diamond in the rough and formed 90min away from where I live. I remember years ago a few members became active on the Metal Archives forum just because they had a sizable fan base there, and they had been broken up for some time at that point.
Great picks! Love each and every one of these albums. I'd add Infernäl Mäjesty - None Shall Defy Rigor Mortis - S/t Sieges Even - Life Cycle Watchtower - Control and Resistence Sacred Reich - Ignorance Target - Master Project Genesis Sacrifice - Forward to Termination Forbidden - Forbidden Evil Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care (or Survive) Razor - Violent Restitution Destruction - Eternal Devastation And if demos are allowed, Demolition Hammer - Necrology
I feel that Sodom's "Obsessed by Cruelty" is under-appreciated. That raw sound, scratchy vocals and brilliant cover art is the whole package. Thanks for bringing Sadus in to the mix as well.Oh yeah, and Evil Dead, another top-notch band.
I scored that Morbid Saint album off Facebook marketplace about a month ago from a dude selling records for $25 each. I had picked 3 and he offered 5 for $100 so I just said whatever you recommend and that was one. How the hell had I never heard of them, the album is incredible, what a pickup!!
Rigor Mortis - Freaks Sepultura - Arise Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Destruction - Infernal Overkill Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death Vio-Lence - Eternal Nightmare Sodom - Persecution Mania Kreator - Pleasure To Kill Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence Razor - Evil Invaders Overkill - The Years of Decay Whiplash - Power and Pain Coroner - No More Color Tankard - The Morning After Toxic - Think This
Spectrum of Death is amazing. One of the most savage albums I've ever heard. The vocals have tons of punch, and the band is really good at making brutal be catchy. The only album in this vein I'd put above it is Pestilence's debut (I'd say that album is noticeably more thrash compared to their death metal albums that'd follow).
I saw Morbid Saint in September 2017 in France during an extreme metal festival located in the outskirts of Paris. Didn't know much about them but was blown away by their performance. I still remember them at the end of the show begging us to buy them some merch for they barely had any money left from their tour to buy a ticket home to America! I bought their killer Spectrum of Death reissued album of 2016 which contains a second Cd with tracks from the Destruction System album + some demo early songs. This Album has almost never left my car since I bought it and listened it on my way back home that very night after the concerts. I still feel sorry that a band such as this one gets too few credits, for they are have such a speedy agressive note to their songs. I hardly believe myself that I had to wait that long before even knowing about them (I'm into Thrash metal since the late 90's).
@@jruedew how? 60 percent of the riffs are evil tremolo reminiscent of malevolent creation and morbid angel, the other 40 are heavy slow chugging reminiscent of obituary and entombed, the vocals are growling and the drums, blast beats and constant double bass, and the lyrics about cannibalism, torture, gore and... in fact there are some riffs which they ripped from malevolent creation and obituary to name a few the riff in omnivore and the title track malevolent creation and the breakdown in scull fracturing nightmare and the track dying from cause of death. and also demolition hammer never toured with thrash bands back in the day due to them being disliked by the fans they always toured with dm bands. and if you have the vinyl for epidemic of violence in the thanks sections they name malevolent creation and obituary as their main influence. I don't know what you guys are smoking but the idea of zoomers that listened to nomore than 30 thrash albums calling epidemic of violence thrash while the album is heavier than any osdm released at that time is quite hilarious. even if you can't diagnose the types of riffs to establish the dominant genre of an album just compare the album to the most barebone and basic band of that genre, does epidemic of violence sound more like metallica or morbid angel? and there you'll get your answer.
I was at the Eternal Nightmare 35th anniversary show a few weeks ago, the show was incredible. One of the best I've seen this year and I've been to A LOT of Thrash shows.
My personal favorites: Annihilator- Alice in Hell Overkill- Years of Decay Exodus- Fabulous Disaster Forbidden- Forbidden Evil Intruder- Psycho Savant and A Higher Form of Killing Xentrix- For Whose Advantage? Toxik- World Circus
A few killer tracks: Laaz Rockit - Fire In The Hole Overkill - Powersurge Morbid Saint - Damien Whiplash - The Burning Of Atlanta Nuclear Assault - Sin Death - Zombie Ritual (I’m counting it) Venom - Poison
Cro-mags: best wishes, exhorder: slaughter in the vatican, Dark Angel: darkness descends, sepultura: beneath the remains, Sacred Reich: ignorance,Vio-lence: eternal nightmare, Nuclear Assault: game over+ survive....to start
My fav albums are: Razor - evil invaders Bulldozer - day of wrath Sodom - Persecution mania Dark Angel - darkness descends Exodus - bonded by blood Especially "evil invaders" melted my head the first time I've heard it. I've never, NEVER heard another thrash singer as "hooligan like" as "Sheepdog". Anyway, great video man.
Some of my 80’s favs outside the Big 4 include: Kreator - Extreme Aggression Sodom - Agent Orange Gammacide - Victims of Science Protector - Golem Holy Moses - Finished With the Dogs Mutilator - Immortal Force Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Testament - The Legacy Sepultura - Beneath the Remains Artillery - Terror Squad Num Skull - Ritually Abused Overkill - The Years of Decay
Great list - 3 killers for me not on there are Onslaught - The Force Artillery - Terror Squad Whiplash - Power & Pain So many great albums back then, list could go on & on
I found out about Morbid Saint just a couple of years ago and it blew me away too. I’ve been listening to metal for over 30 years and it was crazy that I missed that album.
Great list, it made me especially happy to see Spectrum of Death in here. I discovered them not too long ago as well, and I constantly revisit it. In fact, it made it into my top 10 Metal albums of all time list (call me crazy🤣) if I were to add to the list I would definitely put Power and Pain by Whiplash!
Spectrum of death is a feral album. I discovered it whenever quest for metal talked about it in his top 20 death metal albums, the old version of that anyway
Hard agree on The Years of Decay, easily a top 4 thrash album for me. I love that album so much, I got it on vinyl just the other day and I couldn’t be happier about it. I agree with all your other picks too, some of these are honestly just as good if not better than anything the Big Four bands have made.
brotha trenches, i would add demolition hammer n whiplash n gammacide too, these thrash bands are thrashtactic , you keep em coming , i love em all , talk soon bro > tom !
A good chunk of these are my faves, esp the Morbid Saint and Dark Angel ones. Pretty much the rest go as: Forbidden - Forbidden Evil Razor - Violent Restitution Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday For The Deceiver Destruction - Infernal Overkill Heathen - Breaking The Silence Sacred Reich - Ignorance Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence Coroner - Punishment For Decadence Mortal Sin - Mayhemic Destruction Whiplash - Power and Pain Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis Agent Steel - Skeptics Apocalypse Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care
I vividly remember the first time I listened to Spectrum of Death. Blew me away. One of the hardest thrash album's I've ever heard. The energetic speed and intensity in Damien, the smooth fast to slow transitions in Scars, and the grooviness of the riffs in Crying for Death. Crying for Death was one of those song's you couldn't stop playing. Played that song religiously. My picks. Morbid Saint- Spectrum of Death Opprobrium- Serpent Temptation Dark Angel- Darkness Descends Death Angel- The Ultra-Violence Solstice- Pray For The Sentencing Testament- Souls Of Black Onslaught- Power From Hell Venom- Welcome To Hell Sarcofago- I.N.R.I Genocidio- Depression HeadHunter- Born...Suffer...Die... Vomitor- Bleeding The Priest Slaughter Lord- Thrash 'Til Death MX- Mental Slavery Num Skull- Ritually Abused Sadus- Swallowed In Black Rigor Mortis- Rigor Mortis Attomica- Limits of Insanity Hallows Eve- Tales of Terror Exciter- Heavy Metal Maniac Whiplash- Power And Pain Hirax- Raging Violence Eviction- The World Is Hours Away Razor- Executioner's Song Soothsayer- Have a Good Time Flames- Summon The Dead Mutilator- Immortal Force Devastation- Signs of Life Blackthorn- The Rotten Ways Of Human Misery Eternal Dirge- Morbus Ascendit.
Oh man, there are a couple I would add: The Sane Asylum - Blind Illusion Victims Of Science - Gammicide (Their only album, but man is it good.) Breaking The Silence - Heathen (Their second album is stellar as well, but I like their debut best because of its many earworm songs, the insanely catchy riffs, and Lee Altus' near constant flurry of these looping arpeggio runs that are just so satisfying to listen to.) Great list, though. Gotta check some of the ones I don't have out.
Morbid Fuckin Saint! I work with the guitar player Jay Visser, these are a home town favorite. I have seen these guys so many times. They just recorded a new record with the semi original line up. Missing Lee Reynolds (drums) . Pat Linds vocals have gotten even better. "Swallowed by hell" name of new record
Good list man. Appreciate the Morbid Saint and Coroner inclusions into the list (which many "thrashheads" seem to forget exists). My list would be: Forced Entry 'Uncertain Future' (1989; most underrated thrash album ever), Coroner 'Mental Vortex' (1991), Nasty Savage 'Penetration Point' (1989), Anacrusis 'Manic Impressions' (1991), Nuclear Assault 'Survive' (1988), first two DRI albums and the EPs between which are basically prototypical grindcore, Suicidal Tendencies 'S/T' (1983), Dark Angel 'Time Does Not Heal' (1991), Sadus 'Swallowed in Black' (1990) and 'Vision of Misery' (1992), Cryptic Slaughter's 'Money Talks' (1987) and 'Stream of Consciousness' (1988), Hirax 'Hate, Fear, Power' (1986; Eric Brecht's best drumming of his career), Vio-lence 'Oppressing the Masses' (1990), Morbid Saint 'Spectrum of Death' (1988/1989), Whiplash 'Power and Pain' (1985) and 'Insult to Injury' (1989; also produced by Scott Burns), Wehrmacht 'Biermacht' (1988), Artillery 'By Inheritance' (1990), S.O.D. 'Speak English or Die' (1985), Tankard 'Zombie Attack' (1986) and 'Chemical Invasion' (1988), Kreator 'Extreme Aggression' (1989), Sodom 'Persecution Mania', Destruction 'Release from Agony' (1987), Sacred Reich 'Ignorance' (1987) and 'American Way' (1990), and Cover 'Death Walks Behind You' (1989) which is a strange mix of being from the Pacific Northwest and wanting to play straight ahead thrash but simultaneously being pulled into another direction or two.
Great video and some killer choices man. For reference I'm old enough that this was my teenage years and I consider myself spoilt. I'm a Brit but totally agree on the German scene being where the real gold is. I'd have included Tankards Zombie Attack and Destructions Release from Agony myself. From the British scene the debuts from Xentrix (Shattered Existence) and Sabbat (History of a Time to Come) are my shout outs.
Excellent list! You hit most of my favorites too. I agree with all calls to include Whiplash’s “Power and Pain” and add Sacrifice’s “Forward to Termination”. Me and my friends got “Killing Technology” the day it came out and we were completely blown away! We were so bummed during that first listen during the end of “Ravenous Medicine” because we thought our copy was defective! “…they’re gonna do it, they’re gonna do it, they’re gonna do it…” 😅
Shout out to Defiance - Product of Society. Let down by the guitar tone in production, maybe. The album really flows tho, so maybe it wasn't so much of a hindrance. Hit after Hit! Great list. Thrash was such a fun genre
Inferno Majesty-None Shall Defy. Came out in 88. One of the best thrash albums of all time. Dont skip a single track. Really underrated and I think criminally overlooked
I always loved Don Doty's vocals with Dark Angel, and Gene Hoglan was amazing from the start and somehow got so much better! Darkness Descends is still on my Favorites playlist, along with quite a few others here. Solid list 🤘
I remember that Morbid Saint cover and thinking they'd found a bad painting of Eddie! In my list would also be: Onslaught - The Force Sabbat - History Of A Time To Come Acid Reign - The Fear Xentrix - Shattered Existence Artillery - Fear Of Tomorrow Destruction - Eternal Devastation Along with your choices of Exodus; Death Angel and Kreator.
A very slept on thrash record is Mission Executed (1987) from a band Target.. Ive never met anyone that has heard of this band, but its worth checking out for Thrash fans
Nah, Mission Executed is amazing. I just wish it had better production quality. There's a couple tracks on that album that thrash so hard, like 1991 last of the thrash bands-hard. It's one of my favorites.
My fav Albums out of big four are: Practice What You Preach - Testament Handle With Care - Nuclear Assault Possessed By Fire - Exumer Extreme Aggression - Kreator Eternal Devastation - Destruction But the ones on the video are fuckin amazing too.
I would highly recommend if you haven't heard of them, Xentrix, their old stuff is great, but their new stuff is really cool, would love to see a tier list on them, their evolution of thrash is pretty cool.
Kreator's Terrible Certainty, Celtic Frost's Into the Pandemonium, Voivod's Killing Technology, Morbid Saint's Spectrum of Death and Holy Terror's Mind Wars
Awesome list! Especially since The Big 4 is basically level 1 in terms of getting into thrash metal. And all these bands have put out better albums in their later years (the 2010s to today.)
So, being a teenager in the 80's I literally grew up listening to almost all of these albums and still own most of them. Great fucking list, as always 🤘 Myself I would have to include Destruction - Infernal Overkill or Eternal Devistation. Flotsam and Jetsam - No Place for Disgrace.
Exodus - Bonded By Blood Death Angel - The Ultra Violence It gets a little tricky after that, imo. I love Nasty Savage but it's not based on 1 album in particular. Some of the other bands border black/death, so I'd hesitate to include them.
Hirax, Znowhite, Detente, Wargod, Savage Grace, Zoetrope, Wrathchild America, Impaler, Halloween, Ripper, Deceased and even early Japanese Glam/Thrasher's X Japan and Aion are all criminally overlooked.
Good list. What do you think about the first Exciter album, Heavy Metal Maniac, or the band At War? If you like Metallica nad Iron Maiden, you might like Exciter, and if you like Sodom, and Venom, you might like At War.
Not exactly an "80's" thrash list, but here are some of my favorite albums: Epidemic of Violence by Demolition Hammer Darkness Descends by Dark Angel No More Color by Coroner Arise by Sepultura Victim of Science by Gammacide A Vision of Misery by Sadus Spectrum of Death by Morbid Saint Violent Restitution by Razor Killing Technology by Voivod Solstice's self titled debut
Testament the legacy, Death Angel the ultra violence and frolic through the park, coroner, no more color, exodus bonded by blood and fabulous disaster, overkill feel the fire,
1. Overkill - Years of Decay 2. Metal Church - The Dark 3. Forbidden - Twisted into Form 4. Wrathchild America - Climbing the Walls 5. Blind Guardian - Tales From the Twilight World 6. Annhilator - Alice in Hell 7. Exodus - Bonded by Blood 8. Testament - The New Order 9. Tankard - Zombie Attack 10. Flotsam and Jetsam - No Place for Disgrace 11. Voivod - Nothingface 12. Sepultura - Beneath the Remains 13. Sodom - Agent Orange 14. Sanctuary - Refuge Denied 15. Holy Terror - Terror and Submission 16. Death Angel - Frolic Through the Park 17. Xentrix - Shattered Existence 18. Onslaught - In Search of Sanity 19. Sabat - Dreamweaver 20. Helstar - Nosferatu
Ha, I realized a few months ago that I really missed that Sanctuary Refuge Denied album, and picked it up off Amazon. I've had Into The Mirror Black all these years, but lost that one somewhere. No regrets, it still shreds! Pretty solid list you've got there 🤘 I've only heard Mind Wars by The Holy Terror, and still fucking love it! I'll have to try and find this other one you listed, they were ahead of their time
@@salty_snowboarder yes, they were ahead of their time. I love Mind Wars same as T&S, and I'm really glad that there are still people that appriciate this band. It's a great pity that such authentic thrash band like Holy Terror didn't make any major success. I've prolonged the list with some albums which I forgot to put. Cheers!
I was already surprised that no one remembered Metal Churchs "The Dark" and "Follow the Blind" or "Tales from the twilight zone" by Blind Guardian. The bands both played Speed-heavy Thrash metal in the beginning. But maybe this was more an European thing, I also can't remember some bands from the States after more than 30 years. 🤷🏼♀️
Testament is out of the Big four and they are easily the most consistent and real band out of all. That is why It is so difficult to pick one favourite album of their entire discography.
Overkill too! Testament and Overkill’s albums over the last 20 years blow away the big-4 (other than Anthrax, Worship Music is the best big-4 album since 2000)
@@renincuente3291 mainly due to the time of the debut albums, testament was just a few years later. Testament and Overkill have the best thrash discographies. The newer releases have been great and a welcome surprise
I can't dispute any of the albums mentioned in this list. In fact, trying to name the great thrash albums of the 80s would probably be an hour-long video. Great to see Voivod and Toxik included here. I would also include Heathen's Breaking the Silence, Metal Church (either Metal Church or The Dark), Flotsam and Jetsam's Doomsday for the Deceiver, Nuclear Assault's Game Over, Destruction's Infernal Overkill, and Whiplash's Ticket to Mayhem. But again, too many great thrash albums for a video unless it's hours long. :)
Some more non-Big Four GOAT's to add (mostly from the 90s tho, bear with me): 1 Artillery - By Inheritance (1990) technical thrash - everyone who knows this calls it a masterpiece, rightfully so. GOAT'ed. Just listen to opener "Khomaniac"! 2 Forbidden - Twisted Into Form (1990) technical thrash - my go-to riff album + the best singer in thrash. Their riff master even toured with Death in 1993 for Andy LaRoque! 3 Invocator - Excursion Demise (1991) technical death/thrash perfection. Very inspired by Dark Angel (intense af) but with technical prowess like their countrymen Artillery (Denmark). 4 Obliveon - Nemesis (1993) technical thrash without a single filler track.. AMAZING riffs, it's criminally underrated. First 4 albums were all gems! 5 Devastation - Idolatry (1990) death/thrash perfection. 6 Aspid - Extravasation (1993) technical death/thrash from USSR / Soviet Union, an undiscovered MASTERPEICE. Listen to the 2015 remaster, other remasters are sped up (lol). 7 Invocator - Excursion Demise (1991) technical death/thrash perfection. Very inspired by Dark Angel (intense af) but with technical prowess like their countrymen Artillery (Denmark). 8 Hexenhaus - The Edge of Eternity (1990) technical thrash with ties to King Diamond (rhythm guitarist), absolute elite riff- and song writing on their 3 albums in the 1990s!!! 9 Coroner - Punishment For Decadence (1988) technical thrash - consistently labeled "the most underrated band in thrash". 10 Deathrow - Deception Ignored (1988) technical thrash - similar to legendary tech/thrash band Watchtower, but with better vocals imo (less full falsetto).
The New Order is my favorite Testament album, and id say their best overall. Overkill's early stuff never stuck with me until Horrorscope in the 90s. Sadus is amazing always love seeing them get love. And I always appreciate DiGeorgio's basswork. Nothing else spunds like Voivod, nuff said. Sodom is in my top 3 favorite bands and Agent Orange is my second favorite album of theirs behind M16.
All great albums, many of which are among my all-time favorites, but I had never heard of Morbid Saint until now. They sound like Kreator at their most extreme.
I love Death Angels Act III, Exodus's Impact is Imenent, DRI's Thrash Zone, Suicidal Tendencies, Lights Camera, Action, and as far as newer bands, I love Municipal Waist, Havok, Exmortus and a local band from AZ Intent. Also no one ever mentions Wrath Child America, Nuclear Assault, Flotsam and Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Gang Green, Cryptic Slaughter, Tankard, Hirax or Destruction.
Pleasures of the flesh is my favorite too. I usually tend to go a different route with whats supposed to be a band's "best" album. Like I prefer Lightning over Puppets and I prefer Black Dahlia Murder's Deflorate over Nocturne.
@@NinjaRunningWild I still need to rehear time does not heal, but personally, I don’t like leave scars, thought it was really messy personally. If you liked it though then that’s cool

@@doomguyrox1156 I agree, if they can do an entire record with tracks of that quality, it could very well be my aoty. Brotherhood of the Snake is amazing too, crazy to think it’s almost a decade old already.
Chuck Billy was actually on the legacy
Wow, I'm dumb.

@@MetalTrenches just edit it out or just roll with it lol. I couldn't remember half the names of bands I dig.
\m/
That’s cool you live close to where they formed
Morbid Saint are amazing.🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great picks! Love each and every one of these albums. I'd add
Infernäl Mäjesty - None Shall Defy
Rigor Mortis - S/t
Sieges Even - Life Cycle
Watchtower - Control and Resistence
Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Target - Master Project Genesis
Sacrifice - Forward to Termination
Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care (or Survive)
Razor - Violent Restitution
Destruction - Eternal Devastation
And if demos are allowed, Demolition Hammer - Necrology
I have listened to every single album mentioned here before, and I love them all! Great choices my man, reminds me of good times 🤘
I feel that Sodom's "Obsessed by Cruelty" is under-appreciated. That raw sound, scratchy vocals and brilliant cover art is the whole package. Thanks for bringing Sadus in to the mix as well.Oh yeah, and Evil Dead, another top-notch band.
That's my favorite Sodom record. I have the original German press of it, raw and brutal
I scored that Morbid Saint album off Facebook marketplace about a month ago from a dude selling records for $25 each. I had picked 3 and he offered 5 for $100 so I just said whatever you recommend and that was one. How the hell had I never heard of them, the album is incredible, what a pickup!!
Was he from “getawesomerecords” ?
Of course, no 80’s thrash list is complete without Kreator, Sodom, and Overkill.
Destruction
Exodus
Rigor Mortis - Freaks
Sepultura - Arise
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Destruction - Infernal Overkill
Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death
Vio-Lence - Eternal Nightmare
Sodom - Persecution Mania
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence
Razor - Evil Invaders
Overkill - The Years of Decay
Whiplash - Power and Pain
Coroner - No More Color
Tankard - The Morning After
Toxic - Think This
Spectrum of Death is amazing. One of the most savage albums I've ever heard. The vocals have tons of punch, and the band is really good at making brutal be catchy. The only album in this vein I'd put above it is Pestilence's debut (I'd say that album is noticeably more thrash compared to their death metal albums that'd follow).
Banger
Both are awesome
Another band that i think deserves a lot more recognition is Demolition Hammer. Heaviest thrash band ever IMO 🤘
Not thrash

@@Demon00756 Not thrash? Wtf man
@@Demon00756hmm defiently in the Death Thrash camp but more thrash than death metal
So jealous!! 🤘
But 35th anniversary? Fuuuuuuuck I'm old!
Suicidal Tendencies-How can I laugh tomorrow is a god damn masterpiece imo

Intruder- Psycho Savant and A Higher Form of Killing
Xentrix- For Whose Advantage?
Toxik- World Circus

A few killer tracks:
Laaz Rockit - Fire In The Hole
Overkill - Powersurge
Morbid Saint - Damien

Razor - evil invaders
Bulldozer - day of wrath
Sodom - Persecution mania
Dark Angel - darkness descends

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Testament - The Legacy
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains

Great list - 3 killers for me not on there are
Onslaught - The Force
Artillery - Terror Squad
Whiplash - Power & Pain
So many great albums back then, list could go on & on
I found out about Morbid Saint just a couple of years ago and it blew me away too.
🤘🏻
Spectrum of death is a feral album. I discovered it whenever quest for metal talked about it in his top 20 death metal albums, the old version of that anyway
Power And Pain is a fucking rager, Ticket To Mayhem too.
The legacy ?
Feel the fire ?
Bonded by blood?
Fabolous disaster?
Endless pain ?
I mean we could go on all day
Hard agree on The Years of Decay, easily a top 4 thrash album for me. I love that album so much, I got it on vinyl just the other day and I couldn’t be happier about it. I agree with all your other picks too, some of these are honestly just as good if not better than anything the Big Four bands have made.
Years is great, I’m more into their first 2 albums, but years is a classic
Dead Brain Cells: Universe
Whiplash: Insult to Injury
Vendetta: Brain Damage
brotha trenches, i would add demolition hammer n whiplash n gammacide too, these thrash bands are thrashtactic , you keep em coming , i love em all , talk soon bro > tom !
Also awesome picks. If I do a 90's list maybe I'll get Demo Hammer on there
A good chunk of these are my faves, esp the Morbid Saint and Dark Angel ones. Pretty much the rest go as:
Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Razor - Violent Restitution
Flotsam and Jetsam - Doomsday For The Deceiver
Destruction - Infernal Overkill
Heathen - Breaking The Silence
Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence
Coroner - Punishment For Decadence
Mortal Sin - Mayhemic Destruction
Whiplash - Power and Pain
Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis
Agent Steel - Skeptics Apocalypse
Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care
Great list. I would have to add the ridiculously underrated Indulgence by Nasty Savage.
Nasty Savage is so underrated
One album blows all these away on this list sepultura beneath the remains
Beneath the remains is great, but I prefer schizophrenia
I vividly remember the first time I listened to Spectrum of Death. Blew me away. One of the hardest thrash album's I've ever heard. The energetic speed and intensity in Damien, the smooth fast to slow transitions in Scars, and the grooviness of the riffs in Crying for Death. Crying for Death was one of those song's you couldn't stop playing. Played that song religiously.
My picks.
Morbid Saint- Spectrum of Death Opprobrium- Serpent Temptation Dark Angel- Darkness Descends Death Angel- The Ultra-Violence Solstice- Pray For The Sentencing Testament- Souls Of Black Onslaught- Power From Hell
Venom- Welcome To Hell
Sarcofago- I.N.R.I
Genocidio- Depression
HeadHunter- Born...Suffer...Die...
Vomitor- Bleeding The Priest
Slaughter Lord- Thrash 'Til Death
MX- Mental Slavery
Num Skull- Ritually Abused
Sadus- Swallowed In Black
Rigor Mortis- Rigor Mortis
Attomica- Limits of Insanity
Hallows Eve- Tales of Terror
Exciter- Heavy Metal Maniac
Whiplash- Power And Pain
Hirax- Raging Violence
Eviction- The World Is Hours Away
Razor- Executioner's Song
Soothsayer- Have a Good Time
Flames- Summon The Dead
Mutilator- Immortal Force
Devastation- Signs of Life
Blackthorn- The Rotten Ways Of Human Misery
Eternal Dirge- Morbus Ascendit.
Oh man, there are a couple I would add:
The Sane Asylum - Blind Illusion
Victims Of Science - Gammicide
(Their only album, but man is it good.)
Breaking The Silence - Heathen
(Their second album is stellar as well, but I like their debut best because of its many earworm songs, the insanely catchy riffs, and Lee Altus' near constant flurry of these looping arpeggio runs that are just so satisfying to listen to.)
Great list, though. Gotta check some of the ones I don't have out.
S.O.D.'s Speak English or Die is another amazing 80s thrash album!
Not a thrash Album as we all know... Same with suicidal ludichrist cro mags crumbsuckers or dri... guess this is supposed to be about pure thrash
Agreed
My favourite on Pleasures of the Flesh is Brain Dead I cannot resist headbanging myself into a coma everytime I hear it
yes brother still gets my old head banging today i also love chemi kill.. thrash till death brother \m/
Also No mention of Heathen??? Guitarmony lives rent free in my head. Classic song imo
Heathen is a good band
Really enjoy the first 2 albums
Great video and some killer choices man. For reference I'm old enough that this was my teenage years and I consider myself spoilt. I'm a Brit but totally agree on the German scene being where the real gold is. I'd have included Tankards Zombie Attack and Destructions Release from Agony myself. From the British scene the debuts from Xentrix (Shattered Existence) and Sabbat (History of a Time to Come) are my shout outs.
Agree. Also fellow Brit and similar age. I would also add Acid Reign. Wore out their small and short output at the time.
“…they’re gonna do it, they’re gonna do it, they’re gonna do it…” 😅
"Alice In Hell" was a blast back in the day...that album got tons of hype in the Metal mags...
Nuclear Assault- Game Over
Whiplash- Ticket to Mayhem
And one I don't own yet = Blood Feast - Chopping Block Blues.
Great video once again! Your content is always solid 🤘
Thank you!
I remember that Morbid Saint cover and thinking they'd found a bad painting of Eddie!
In my list would also be:
Onslaught - The Force
Sabbat - History Of A Time To Come
Acid Reign - The Fear
Xentrix - Shattered Existence
Artillery - Fear Of Tomorrow
Destruction - Eternal Devastation
Along with your choices of Exodus; Death Angel and Kreator.
It's a fucking shame the entire Agent Orange album is still not on spotify yet
Yeah it's weird
Yeah, it’s cruel and possibly abusive to thrashers everywhere not having it on spotify
Btw, Morbid Saint have a second album called Destruction System and they're working on a new album ATM \m/
I honestly never understood why Testament isn’t considered part of the big 4 over Anthrax, they always seemed like a more popular band
Testament was never more successful than Anthrax. Just look at the album sales.
Even Exodus is more popular. Testament was the sixth more popular thrash band in the 80s and 90s in the US
@@WilderAutumnBlaze My bad dude I was just basing it off of current popularity
A very slept on thrash record is Mission Executed (1987) from a band Target.. Ive never met anyone that has heard of this band, but its worth checking out for Thrash fans
Nah, Mission Executed is amazing. I just wish it had better production quality. There's a couple tracks on that album that thrash so hard, like 1991 last of the thrash bands-hard. It's one of my favorites.
One of my faves is Assassin "Interstellar Experience ".
Great german Thrash.
What great memories these bring back, was 19 when most of these came out!

My fav Albums out of big four are:
Practice What You Preach - Testament
Handle With Care - Nuclear Assault
Possessed By Fire - Exumer
Extreme Aggression - Kreator
Eternal Devastation - Destruction
But the ones on the video are fuckin amazing too.
I’d say the big 4 are level 1 metal bands imo
So, being a teenager in the 80's I literally grew up listening to almost all of these albums and still own most of them. Great fucking list, as always 🤘 Myself I would have to include Destruction - Infernal Overkill or Eternal Devistation. Flotsam and Jetsam - No Place for Disgrace.
Could have also been some early Metal Church, Whiplash and Razor🤘
Yes! Destruction - Infernal Overkill...best Trash album ever🤘...Trash Attack, the best Trash instrumental all time🤘
Exodus - Bonded By Blood
Death Angel - The Ultra Violence
It gets a little tricky after that, imo. I love Nasty Savage but it's not based on 1 album in particular. Some of the other bands border black/death, so I'd hesitate to include them.
Cool channel, bro! Need more videos about Thrash. Cheers 🍻
Well there’s quite a few now. They’ll keep coming
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights, Camera , Revolution
Need Powermad "Absolute Power” on this list.
What about Suicidal?
Hirax, Znowhite, Detente, Wargod, Savage Grace, Zoetrope, Wrathchild America, Impaler, Halloween, Ripper, Deceased and even early Japanese Glam/Thrasher's X Japan and Aion are all criminally overlooked.
Good list. What do you think about the first Exciter album, Heavy Metal Maniac, or the band At War? If you like Metallica nad Iron Maiden, you might like Exciter, and if you like Sodom, and Venom, you might like At War.
Pleasures of the Flesh deserves more recognition. Souza did a great job on the Baloff songs of this album

Arise by Sepultura
Victim of Science by Gammacide
A Vision of Misery by Sadus
Spectrum of Death by Morbid Saint
Violent Restitution by Razor

I've only heard Mind Wars by The Holy Terror, and still fucking love it!
Testament and Overkill’s albums over the last 20 years blow away the big-4 (other than Anthrax, Worship Music is the best big-4 album since 2000)
Sure! I've never understood why Anthrax (which I like too, btw) is considered one of the Big 4 instead of Testament.
And there's Agent Steel, Forbidden... \m/ 🤘
Some more non-Big Four GOAT's to add (mostly from the 90s tho, bear with me):
1 Artillery - By Inheritance (1990) technical thrash - everyone who knows this calls it a masterpiece, rightfully so.
Sodom is in my top 3 favorite bands and Agent Orange is my second favorite album of theirs behind M16.
nuclear assaults handle with care gotta be one of my favorites
0:17 seconds into the video and I'm already like hell yeah man, this guy knows.
Toxik is one of my favs! Saw them at hells heroes just killed it
Always great hearing your take on these things. I remember a lot of these coming out, back in the 80's, when my broke ass couldn't afford them.
Great list. I would just add Stone's No Anaesthesia! - amazing album from start to finish.
Pleasures of the flesh is my favorite too. I usually tend to go a different route with whats supposed to be a band's "best" album. Like I prefer Lightning over Puppets and I prefer Black Dahlia Murder's Deflorate over Nocturne.
Darkness decends is probably my favorite thrash album of all time
That one’s really good, I got too many to pick from.
I still like Leave Scars & Time Does Not Heal better, but everything by Dark Angel is good.
