Awesome Black Sabbath - Volume 4 av. Incredible album. Blows me away how crushingly heavy Under The Sun was and is especially for 1972! That's crazy! Nobody else was that heavy in '72. Wheels Of Confusion is an amazing epic to start the album. I could go on forever about the album lol.
Death-thrash was definitely the flavor of the 90's. That being said, some others I'd add: Solstice - Solstice Merciless - The Treasures Within Deceased - Fearless Undead Machines Evildead - The Underworld Incubus - Beyond the Unknown Revenant - Prophecies of a Dying World Thanatos - Realm of Ecstasy
Evildead - The Underworld is a great album. Global Warming, Branded, Welcome To Kuwait, Critic/Cynic, Process Elimination... Some killer songs on that album. Another gem I'd like to add is Uncle Slam - Will Work For Food. Killer Crossover Thrash from 1993.
@@doomusrlc Dark Angel is simply the most underrated band in thrash metal, everyone remembers Darkness Descends, but forgots about Leave Scars, Time Does Not Heal and We Have Arrived
Nothing but bangers on here! There are plenty of other great 90s thrash albums. Even with bands mentioned on this list such as Coroner (Mental Vortex) and Sadus (A Vision of Misery). And as much as I fucking worship Tortured Existence, I think Epidemic of Violence is even better. Morbid Saint also recorded Destruction System in 1992, but it wasn't released (at least commercially) until 2015, so I'm not sure it would qualify here. Time Doed Not Heal by Dark Angel isn't their best, but it sure as hell is good enough to deserve to be mentioned here. I also enjoyed Razor's Open Hostility and Decibels considerably (the former a lot more) so they should not be overlooked either. Sacrifice released a couple of albums in the 90s, Soldiers of Misfortune in '90 and Apocalypse Inside in '93 which are both absolute must-haves in any respectable thrash metal collection. Atrophy - Violent By Nature is great too. Forbidden - Twisted Into Form. Since Protector got the pass I also want to mention Solstice's self titled (in particular) and Pray, as well as Ripping Corpse's Dreaming With the Dead. I'm sure some, if not all have been mentioned elsewhere in the comments (in retrospect I maybe should have checked 😂), but I hope at least one person discovers something worth their while.
The laws of scourage is an underrated classic. Amazing mix of Death,Thrash and Black metal. While it's not as babaric and sadistic as their debut it's still absolutly amazing
Really glad you included Mekong Delta, truly one of the most underrated thrash metal bands out there. My favourite from them gotta be Dances of Death, also from the 90's
Yeah man I have all their albums but one, pictures at the exhibition. But Dances of Death is number 1 for me also. They even have a Genesis cover Dance On A Volcano so you know their influences are from. 70's prog rock.
I was about to cry foul and say where is Testament's Low or Choas AD? But after watching I get what you were going for: the last thrash albums before the post Pantera world. Understanding that now, great list. Seeing your videos pop up always makes my day!
Demolition Hammer K I L L S! Tortured Existence is fucking awesome, but Epidemic of Violence is even better! I love how this band literally does thrash as brutal as Slayer, but they actually have great guitar solos!!! \m/
I like a lot of your picks, especially Demolition Hammer, Slayer and Sepultura. Here are some others I would include: - Sacrifice - Soldiers of misfortune - Solstice - Solstice - Death angel - Act III
Great Sacrifice pick. I'd also add Apocalypse Inside which is a pretty good album from a thrash band in 1993, considering what a lot of other thrash bands were doing around that time.

1990, 1991 and even 1992 still had some great Thrash records, specially 1990. The challenge here would be to find truly GREAT Thrash records released AFTER 1992.
All the albums mentioned are very important for me, in being able to get into the most aggressive Thrash Metal, which is the one I like the most since that time of 1990-1994. I have no problem with musical experiments and fusions. It is understood that there are albums that suck, but if the bands don't adapt to the moment they die, or the labels throw them away, and none of those situations are of any use to anyone. * Also from Brazil worth listening to sometime bands like MX (Mental Slavery from 1990), Mutilator only two albums, Chakal (The Man Is His Own Jackal from 1990) and Sextrash (Sexual Carnage from 1990).
Among the Other Favorites From Mine: Sepultura -Arise, Sarcofago- The Laws of Scourge, Devastation- Idolarty, Megadeth- Rust In Peace and Of Course Forbidden's- Twisted into Form.
I think it is a matter of personal taste because I find epidemic of violence less vicious and more polished though very aggressive. I prefer "by a long shot" the first one 😉
The early and late 90's were a great time for thrash. It's the middle years (1993-1997) that sucked hard, with a few exceptions like Testament who were just unlucky. And even then other genres like Death and Black were blossoming during the 90s.
A lot of choice picks here, and I'm stoked to check out Protector. I have to add Sacrifice: Soldiers of Misfortune from 1990. It is easily my favourite thrash metal album of all time, the title track alone is worth it!
I noticed how all albums you've mentioned are either released in 90, 91, or 92. That's considered the last good year for thrash, and it shows 😄 If you're a fan of the gritty stuff like Protector, try Demolition Hammers second album and the self titled Solstice album, you'll dig em!
There were still some classics in the early 90s, Rust in Peace, Arise and Seasons in the Abyss stand up there with the best of them. The 80s were definetly more consistent, the black albums huge success definetly made the scene go in a different direction, along with afew other factors.
An all-time favorite of mine is Sodom’s “Masquerade In Blood”. To Hell with what the critics thought of it, this is, if not, my most favorite album by Sodom. So fast, so fierce at times. This is also the hardest I’ve ever heard the band play. As a side note, the “20,000 Feet” cover on the Japanese version is what got me into Saxon.
3 really good thrash albums id add are Annihilator - Never, Neverland 1990 Trizna - Out of Step 1995 (Extremely underrated) Аспид (Aspid) - Кровоизлияние 1993
Doing the content we need! (For old thrash) :) Edit: I like Nuclear Assault (The Plague, Something Wicked) Voivod of course, Persistence of Time is great and Testament of course.)
I found a cd at a dollar store of a band that I really liked only that album, lol Uncle Slam-When God Dies. it took a minute to get used to the weird vocalist but the band is baddass🤘 Another good thrash band Wrathchild America 🤘
Absolutely agree with "Coma Of Souls" - thanks for reminding me I need to replace my copy! "When The Sun Burns Red" is now stuck in my head! I wish Wrathchild America's "3-D" would get some love for being progressive thrash. Shannon Larkin's drumming is fantastic, especially on "Prego".
@MetalTrenches I'm amazed that you used the "Democracy Manifest" clip in this vid. "A Succulent Chinese Meal". Check out a 90's band called Allegiance from Perth, Western Australia & their album "D.E.S.T.I.T.U.T.I.O.N.". One of my all time favourite albums. Sadly, they should of been bigger than what they were. Rob Halford absolutely loved them.
Other than many of the mentioned picks I´ld add Excursion Demise (1991) by Invocator. The follow up is also good but has more of a Pantera / Machine Head Vibe, whereas Excursion Demise sounds like if you pair the progressiveness of And Justice for all with the brutality of Slayer. Dark Angel Time does not heal has almost 300 riffs, Death Angel Act III is also great after the weirdness that was their second album. BUT: Out of all the classic Thrash bands with at least 9 albums or so they have the allround most solid discography. I die on that hill. Maybe it helped that they went away for almost 13 years...
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic Of Violence Sepultura - Arise Testament - The Gathering Kreator - Coma Of Souls Megadeth - Rust In Peace Annihilator - King Of The Kill Sacrifice - Soldiers Of Misfortune Nuclear Assault - Something Wicked
Came here to post The Gathering. One of my favorite albums of all time. Got to see them live that year with Dave Lombardo on drums in Tucson, AZ with The Haunted... it was insanely awesome.
@@Annihilation_0f_The_Wicked9066 actually the name is for the video game series Doom. In a cruel ironic twist I actually don’t love Doom metal. I find it really boring and would take thrash over it. Still though, respectable opinion man.🤟
What's your opinion on Coroner's Grin? I've been getting back into that album and digging it. But not sure if it's nostalgia, since it's the first Coroner I heard.
I also really dig Demolition Hammer's "Epidemic of Violence" which I find even superior to T.E., Kreator's "Cause for Conflict" which is actually one of my fav Kreator album, Testament's "The Gathering" with its defaults (too much 3/4 grooves, absence of solos), Su Ta Gar's "Jaiotze basatia" & "Agur Jauna". Also on the verge of death metal Agressor's "Neverending Destiny" and the exceptional "Choir of Horrors" and its preceding EP "Psychomorphia" by Messiah as deathrash favorites.
Love the list, i have most of the albums on this list(except for protector). Love that Artillery and Mekong Delta(one of the more underrated thrash bands out there) was on the list. I also would reccomend Aspid Extravasation from Russia in 1993. Think technical Destruction

The Gathering is awesome🤟. Not sure if it’s my favorite from them, but I can see why some would choose it as their favorite. I’m just more biased towards The New Order.
Holy shit man thank you so much for the Kaleidoscope / Mekong Delta recommendation??! I'd never heard of these guys before, and first off that album cover hooked me, then the music and ultimately those vocals. I really love them, they stand out to me as compared to most of the snarly Death-Thrash vocals we got in the 90's Thrash scene.. Just wow, such a killer band so far, cannot wait to check out abd experience more (also big props for the voivod shoutout, definitely seeing the similarities to Killing Technology specifically)
Kreator - Coma of Souls Exodus - Impact is Imminent Overkill - Horrorscope Testament - Souls of Black Suicidal Tendencies - Lights Camera Revolution Megadeth - Rust in Peace Anthrax - Persistence of Time Tankard - Stone Cold Sober Mekong Delta - Dances of Death (and other walking shadows) Celtic Frost - Vanity/Nemesis Sepultura - Arise Annihilator - Never Neverland Sodom - Better Off Dead to name just a few I'd add Season in the Abyss by Slayer cos I used to like this album a lot but now I think it's a pretty average record with bad production.
If you're going to mention bands like Artillery you have to talk about Flotsam and Jetsam - Drift. Thrashy, groovy and Melodic. And of course Testament- Low. Not sure why but this album just doesn't get the love it deserves 🤘
@@MetalTrenches This is the first time I've ever heard that. Looking it up it looks like it did come out in Mexico in 89. But everyone and their mother has said it came out in 1990.
At least in the early 90's there were still many thrash bands still going strong. However even the classic thrash bands would get consistently worse, like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, and even Slayer, Kreator and Exodus putting out some subpar not-really-thrash-at-all-anymore bullshit at that time. The real meltdown happened in the 2000's with the introduction of Metalcore, NU Metal and all that fucking garbage. Except for a few of the old schoolers still keeping the flame alive, there were very few good fresh thrash being released at that abysmal era for metal in the 2000's. The resurgence was already starting though, with bands like Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Slipknot, and even System of a Down injecting the good old thrash spirit into their music... I would say it is largely thanks to these bands that thrash finally resurfaced, with bands like Evile and Municipal Waste saying "Fuck it!" and going full-throttle.
One important thing to say is that in 1990 thrash was not really decreasing in quality, it is really after 1991 that it gets worse and worse, after 1991 all that is really left is death thrash and it gets worse and worse every year after

@@MetalTrenches OK didn't know that, but the guy on the video is from Lacrimosa
Great list. Personally I would have included Anarkophobia by Ratos de Porao
Bro we don't always agree but this was a fantastic list
\m/
Testament- The Gathering should have been on this list....their best album IMO
Thank the audience for this one
@@MetalTrenches well it's a damn great audience I must say! 🫡
I'm surprised The Gathering by Testmanet does't claim a place here.
Arise is in my top 5 thrash albums of all time.
On a side note, I would put Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence on this list.
Kreator - Coma of Souls
Exodus - Impact is Imminent
Overkill - Horrorscope
Testament - Souls of Black
Suicidal Tendencies - Lights Camera Revolution
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Anthrax - Persistence of Time
Tankard - Stone Cold Sober
Mekong Delta - Dances of Death (and other walking shadows)
Celtic Frost - Vanity/Nemesis
Sepultura - Arise
Annihilator - Never Neverland
Sodom - Better Off Dead
to name just a few
I'd add Season in the Abyss by Slayer cos I used to like this album a lot but now I think it's a pretty average record with bad production.
If you're going to mention bands like Artillery you have to talk about Flotsam and Jetsam - Drift. Thrashy, groovy and Melodic. And of course Testament- Low. Not sure why but this album just doesn't get the love it deserves 🤘
Not a bad list, but it needs Morbid Saint's Spectrum Of Death and Anthrax's Persistence Of Time.
Spectrum of Death actually came out in '89
@@MetalTrenches This is the first time I've ever heard that.
Looking it up it looks like it did come out in Mexico in 89. But everyone and their mother has said it came out in 1990.
Do you have any favorite punk bands? Or even crossover?
Too many to name
Aspid-Extravasation 1993. Fucking awesome records
I would say it is largely thanks to these bands that thrash finally resurfaced, with bands like Evile and Municipal Waste saying "Fuck it!" and going full-throttle.
thanks for this lots of great shit that that got buried
Sadistik exekutuon-The Magus came out in the 90s though it was recorded in the 80s
Heathen needed to be included here
"The Power of inner strength" and "Nemesis" by Grip Inc. i would also mention.
Hot take: I'd pick Endorama over Outcast, Renewal and Cause for Conflict any day of the week.
Demolition Hammers second full-length labum, "Epidemic of Violence" from 1992 is even better
Horrorscope is the best Overkill album by far!
One important thing to say is that in 1990 thrash was not really decreasing in quality, it is really after 1991 that it gets worse and worse, after 1991 all that is really left is death thrash and it gets worse and worse every year after
