I'd forgotten how funny this episode is and yes, it was great to have a more Kate-centric episode. And really Angel in the Hawaiian shirt always cracks me up :)

I was a bit disappointed that Kate's dad didn't learn anything from what Kate said.

Angel hugging Doyle and Cordelia cracks me up every time. I also love when Cordelia tells Angel to get angry / "grrrrrr" and Angel's all, "Nope. I feel you both judge me when I vamp out." LOL! I wonder if he has been suppressing that feeling for a long time and never verbalized it until the talking stick. 😉
On a serious note, though, this episode is so funny but it ends on such a sad note, with Kate's dad pretty much dismissing and misunderstanding her and telling her that she embarrassed him. What a knife to the gut that part was. Poor Kate. She really did need a hug from Angel in that moment.

It was a great decision by the showrunners to have Angel be more than just the broody humorless character he usually was on BTVS. I was never a particular fan of him on Buffy, but in his own show he is so much more likable and entertaining. I'm glad you're enjoying Angel so far! It really is a very good series.

I love the humor in this episode so much! Especially Cordy trying to make Angel more sensitive during the first half then having to change him back later 😂 (But oof that line always hurt me when Angel says he hates going "vamp mode" because he feels like they're judging him. Poor guy 😢)
A fun episode. Good to see David B getting a break from always having to be brooding and serious. And now we know that Kate and her father have serious issues.

We had a bit of a rain storm role through, one of those 11cm ever minute type. Of course the ducklings loved it and were playing in the puddles. They got muddy duck prints everywhere and when the alpacas came in to watch with me, the ducklings hopped onto their backs to shake off all the water and mud.
I'm a mess, the alpacas are a mess, the ducklings are grounded from puddles on any Jules video day and have to scrub the clubhouse clean for the next month.

Although I've seen this series in it's entirety, it has been many years and I didn't remember anything about this episode (except Angel's Hawaiian shirt and silly hat), but as soon as I saw that talking stick I knew that was some magical nonsense. 😂

I love these kinds of Buffyverse episodes, where the main cast get whammied and act out of character. I'd honestly forgotten about this episode, except for Angel's Hawaiian shirt and hat near the beginning. As such, I couldn't actually remember whether Angel was faking it at the end or not. I'm so glad he wasn't, it makes it so much funnier. 😂
It's also nice to see more of Kate's life being explored, she's such a great character, but now we feel a little sorry for her.
I'm glad you got a bit of levity to help you recover from that Buffy episode, Jules. Here's to the next one!
Oh yes, you could say that the Wolf Ram and Hart angle will be ramping up, yes in deed. I always liked that after the episode with her new apartment that Cordeilia acted more like herself again, but sensitive Angel is a real trip too,there will be many more fun moments in the seasons to come as well, much like Buffy, the writers make sure to break up the darkness with some light laughter now and then. love your reaction, can't wait until the next!

This one was a lot of fun to watch... until the end. I thought the dad could have taken the hint and moved towards a healthier relationship with Kate! And Doyle wrestling the tentacle while Cordelia is oblivious and talking about how she doesn't appreciate when Angel is oblivious to the people closest to him --- that was priceless! I am looking forward to the next one!

There are some really great episodes I. The first half of the season. This is one of my favourites. Anytime David gets to show his goofy side it is just sooooo good. He is a such a goofy guy in real life.
Even in-universe, "be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it in the worst way" is good advice.

There were a lot of outtakes from the Angel in the Hawaiian shirt scene. David kept breaking until he finally wore down the others who broke.
Kate's dad is also in my favorite movie, playing a cop, but one of the top guys in charge.

When Angel got involved with the arrest he jeopardised the entire case against Tony. Kate would rather have him get away than have their case thrown out of court because some random unidentified dude in a Hawaiian shirt beat up Tony's goons. It's not like Angel can appear in court as a witness.

I’d forgotten about the magic stick episode! I’m not sure what’s funnier, Angel in loud Hawaiian chic or when both Kate and Angel get the whammy! But better still, your ‘painbow’ from Buffy is now a rainbow!

Another episode about communication. This time the focus is on how Kate's father cutting off from his daughter has caused her harm. Probably him too. And interestingly they have both dealt with the emotional trauma of not communicating with each other in much the same way, by feigned stoicism and standoffishness. When Kate is giving her speech, and she mentions her dad pulled away from her because whenever he looked at his daughter, all he saw was his dead wife looking back, there is something real to that. It explains why he is cold to her. Why he couldn't share his emotions with her, because that just made it even more painful. But the problem with withholding you emotions is that the pain stays with you then. Yes, sharing can be scary and painful, but the prolonged pain of never letting you emotions out is even worse.

A creepy, sad, but hilarious episode, where most everybody gets to act out!
Happy you enjoyed this one, especially after the tears of Buffy. A nice little pick-me-up, with just a few parts of foreboding, and sadness.
Cordelia, throughout, but particularly in the opening sewer sequence - excellent Cordelia! 🤣Then tourist Angel, just wanting a tour boat trip.😂
Best quick, dry humor line, from Angel - "They tasted a lot like chicken." But all of the "sensitive" dialogue was great. Cordelia and Doyle were also pretty full-on funny throughout.🤣
It would also seem you have some experience with corporate type "training" sessions. "She shouldn't have spoken out of turn, when he had that special stick." 😜
Kate, it seems, really does have a sort of sad life. Too bad. As you say maybe all this will open up a few players and make them a little more attentive to others. Mainly Angel and Kate. They might not be quite so laser focused on "the job".

Maybe it seems longer between reaction videos because of all the spoilery drama on the other channel! I used to think this channel was the problem child for that type of stuff, but it seems both are just as naughty 😜
Tourist Angel was a highlight for me! SO many great moments! I love having a laugh, and this one delivered nicely. I really like Kate. She's a sweet lady and I did once think she might be a good girlfriend for Angel, but I think I'd rather them just be friends. It's weird, because I'm open to Buffy being with new boys here and there, but I kinda see Angel as a solitary lone wolf character. I would love for him to find love, but just not true happiness.... That, unfortunately, can never happen again. If we see a return of Angelus, I will have a tantrum!
I do wonder what it was like for you to watch Buffy on this channel and see Cordelia being.... not so nice at times there. She's different here, still her honest self to a tee, but it took me AGES to like her on Buffy. She's one of my favourites, now!

I didn't dislike Cordelia, as much as you, because, I guess, I've always known her as a no-filter sort of person, but I was extremely curious to see how they moved her from her meanness in Buffy, to her straight up honesty in Angel. I will admit though she is a Much better character in Angel. I really like, as you've mentioned a few times, the growth, of both Cordelia and Angel, in this series.
And I have always liked Kate.

I don't mind this episode, corny as it is, but I find it odd that sense and sensitivity comes off as drunkeness a lot of the time.
The released blooper for Herb Saunders is fantastic as David Boreanaz keeps repeating his lines after messing up without cutting and the actors in the scene keep it together enough to act like he's not even messing up and start over with him.
If Fox interviewed these cops and Angel in the sensitivity class he would say they were victims of "The Wammy"😉😂🤣Amazing acting and writing that was hilarious🤣Thanks so much Juliette💞Fantastic episode!💯💥
Wasn't it a wonderful beginning, Texman!! Angel really shines here and seems to no longer be someone that is just connected to Buffy. He has an opportunity to right his wrongs, and make his own mark on the world! I love it 😸💜
One of the weaker episodes of S1. An interesting take however on the relationship between Kate and her father, and how children, when they get older, always are seeking the approval and love of their parents which isn't sometimes reciprocated. This episodes shows how psychologically damaged Kate was with the relationship with her father. As usual some great comedy moments between the three, which is a constant through S1.
I like fake overblown drams like.....Buffy or Angel. Kate's thing at her dad's party was so painful and cringey I have to skip it
As much as I love this episode and Kate as a character, I agree completely. It was way too much.

To me, this is the weakest episode of season 1. The next five are quite good, though. 🤔
