I _definitely_ think there's darker stuff going on here than what it seems. the video's called *extinction* party, the translations aren't correct and are telling Ena to turn back, "drunk" Ena turns into a demon-like thing, and obviously the weird atmosphere and green portal-thingies. and tbh I love that. seemingly light-hearted stories with a hidden dark side are right up my alley

I just realized, when Moony says "It looks like the fisherman became the fished," it's because she's usually the one to go to Ena, not the other way around. This is Ena's first time being here, judging by the guardian at the gate not recognizing her, as well as Ena needing to ask for directions.

but the thing is, ENA doesn’t understand what the people who spoke Korean and japanese say because ENA doesn’t know the language, so ENA interprets it as if they are giving her directions to Moony, when in reality the Mime and the other Japanese person are trying to warn ENA to not go to Moony. the subtitles are not what the people are actually saying, it’s what ENA is interpreting because she doesn’t know the language
ALSO, i saw this from another comment but i’d like to elaborate it here. when ENA speaks to the mime and says “speak in the **body language** of the gods” i think she’s only looking at the movements of what mime and Robert says, what their speaking is completely irrelevant to her and she only interprets how Robert and how the Mime move, not the language. so the SUBTITLES are what ENA is interpreting from Robert and the Mime because she was looking at the body movement, not the language itself. as you can see, both the mime and Robert move in very weird and awkward directions while speaking and ENA understands that as directions to where Moony is!
I like to think the point of ENA giving Mooney to Mooney is because despite her snappy comebacks, and ENA's mental highs and lows, Mooney is one of her favorite things. So much so that she just have to share Mooney with Mooney to let her know.

It feels like she ignores half the stuff but still thinks it’s weird, but sometimes gets so weirded out that she has to point it out. It’s probably why she apologizes for turning sad despite her ‘episodes’ never being acknowledged, because she knows even that is weird. The phrase ‘everything is so weird here’ would imply that she’s not from ‘here’. Plus, the way she ‘shapeshifts’ and her organic/geometric mismatch almost make it seem like she’s incompatible with the world she’s in somehow...

I really like this. And the fact that the mime and old man were saying things ENTIRELY different than what the subtitles gave off (which seems like it was intentional) just makes me want to know more about what this world entails!
It may have to do with 2 contributing factors 1-Voice: Other that a few side characters and Moony, ENA’s voice is one of the only voices that like you and me. Not (for the most part) distorted, or robotic. 2-Physical figure: ENA’s body looks close enough to a human. I’m not saying others don’t, but out of all of them, ENA resembles one best. Not to mention, Her clothing is based off of Peruvian school uniforms Put these two factors together, and yeah. ENA stands out like a polar bear in the desert.
I have a theory that ENA is not actually a native to her current world. She's been there for a while and has acclimated to it but it's not where she's from.

It occurs to me that ENA almost never talks like a normal human, if you step back and actually examine her words; between the obtuse phrasing and arbitrary tonal shifts, she would almost certainly fail a Turing Test. It’s disguised by some confident delivery by the VAs, leading to a wonderful uncanniness where the lines actually seem “off” on paper but sound mostly fine in practice outside of the more obvious glitches.
Stop it cat I suggest you don’t do that. Its fun in fiction and when you’re having fun, but in person I suggest you keep it limited. Speaking from experience here, in all honesty, no cap, gotta blend in and hide that power level.

I like how Moony isnt inherently mean to ENA. Like sure she is rude but where it counts she is adorably compassionate to them. So many shows just make the rude friend a bitch but this is a nice and a bit more realistic pace
I didn’t realize this at first, but when Ena is about to feel sad, her nose and mouth switch sides. Edit: *ABOUT* to feel sad. Not when her left half is white and her other half black. When she still has the exact colors as when she was normal, yellow and blue.
Ena probably feels emotions at max intensity(like BPD people, for instance) and her usual self is an unstable equilibrium of both glee and desperation, kept in check by her denial. And when she's drunk, glee takes over, yet not tainted with denial, but with the confidence to denounce the nonsense plaguing her world.
Also, her voice is always masculine when on the right side, and always feminine when it's on the left side. This also always lines up with the emotions those sides represent, with the masculine voice always seeming intrigued or upbeat while the feminine voice is always downcast or desperate. It's also interesting to note that the right side of her body is almost completely devoid of edges and straight lines, while the left side is pretty much nothing but edges and straight lines.
Adding to this!! Ena when she was "glitching" out at the end, I would like to believe they are actually other emotions, because they seem to be red and green, which red being usually related to anger.
Blue is negative, White with Blue is hysterical panic, Yellow is positive...and the White with Yellow, (the one that shifts constantly), I suspect of being..Lucidity? Or, perhaps, Normal. Regardless, they are unstable in Ena's world (which is very surreal and with little logic.), which causes the many shifts. Perhaps a level of... "Enlightenment" or "Awareness" into how strange the world around them is. Ena is at least somewhat aware of the strangeness as Yellow, since she called out Moony on a weird sentence in Auction Day. So, it is likely an evolution of it.
So we got a Korean mime with a French name, a Japanese guy with an English name, a big ol' Rubik's cube, a waning crescent with hair, and a mood-swingy polygon lady. I love this animation.
To me, Merci's and Robert's animations always seemed like they don't fit what they're saying... But then I found out that the subtitles are wrong and they're saying something completely different - which fits their animations way more entirely
the style of ena peaks a long dormant nostalgia within us by making everything familiar, yet seem impossibly alien at the same time. it's like a visual and audio representation of a blurred memory, which pertains a style and innocence we haven't seen, remembered, or experienced in decades. it just makes me so happy 😭

I just realized, when Moony says "It looks like the fisherman became the fished," it's because she's usually the one to go to Ena, not the other way around. This is Ena's first time being here, judging by the guardian at the gate not recognizing her, as well as Ena needing to ask for directions.

but the thing is, ENA doesn’t understand what the people who spoke Korean and japanese say because ENA doesn’t know the language, so ENA interprets it as if they are giving her directions to Moony, when in reality the Mime and the other Japanese person are trying to warn ENA to not go to Moony. the subtitles are not what the people are actually saying, it’s what ENA is interpreting because she doesn’t know the language

when ENA speaks to the mime and says “speak in the **body language** of the gods” i think she’s only looking at the movements of what mime and Robert says, what their speaking is completely irrelevant to her and she only interprets how Robert and how the Mime move, not the language. so the SUBTITLES are what ENA is interpreting from Robert and the Mime because she was looking at the body movement, not the language itself. as you can see, both the mime and Robert move in very weird and awkward directions while speaking and ENA understands that as directions to where Moony is!

What Ena communicates to me is that post-modernism doesn't need to be snarky or deconstructionist and can in the end even be somewhat heartwarming.
This isn't postmodern. It's more like surrealism. Look into Giorgio de Chirico. His work is similar to this aesthetic and he was working in the 1910s.

It may have to do with 2 contributing factors
1-Voice: Other that a few side characters and Moony, ENA’s voice is one of the only voices that like you and me. Not (for the most part) distorted, or robotic.
2-Physical figure: ENA’s body looks close enough to a human. I’m not saying others don’t, but out of all of them, ENA resembles one best. Not to mention, Her clothing is based off of Peruvian school uniforms
Put these two factors together, and yeah. ENA stands out like a polar bear in the desert.
I have a theory that ENA is not actually a native to her current world. She's been there for a while and has acclimated to it but it's not where she's from.

It occurs to me that ENA almost never talks like a normal human, if you step back and actually examine her words; between the obtuse phrasing and arbitrary tonal shifts, she would almost certainly fail a Turing Test. It’s disguised by some confident delivery by the VAs, leading to a wonderful uncanniness where the lines actually seem “off” on paper but sound mostly fine in practice outside of the more obvious glitches.

This show gives me early 2000s anime mixed with insane fever dream and I’m OBSESSED with it
I like how Moony isnt inherently mean to ENA. Like sure she is rude but where it counts she is adorably compassionate to them. So many shows just make the rude friend a bitch but this is a nice and a bit more realistic pace

I didn’t realize this at first, but when Ena is about to feel sad, her nose and mouth switch sides.
Edit: *ABOUT* to feel sad. Not when her left half is white and her other half black. When she still has the exact colors as when she was normal, yellow and blue.
Ena probably feels emotions at max intensity(like BPD people, for instance) and her usual self is an unstable equilibrium of both glee and desperation, kept in check by her denial. And when she's drunk, glee takes over, yet not tainted with denial, but with the confidence to denounce the nonsense plaguing her world.

Also, her voice is always masculine when on the right side, and always feminine when it's on the left side. This also always lines up with the emotions those sides represent, with the masculine voice always seeming intrigued or upbeat while the feminine voice is always downcast or desperate. It's also interesting to note that the right side of her body is almost completely devoid of edges and straight lines, while the left side is pretty much nothing but edges and straight lines.
Adding to this!! Ena when she was "glitching" out at the end, I would like to believe they are actually other emotions, because they seem to be red and green, which red being usually related to anger.
What I've gathered:
Yellow half = optimistic lemon man
Blue half = sad drunk lady
Black/white/green/orange side = Idk, a bipolar demon or something?

in the credit it says happy (yellow), sad (blue), and drunk (orange)

Blue is negative, White with Blue is hysterical panic, Yellow is positive...and the White with Yellow, (the one that shifts constantly), I suspect of being..Lucidity? Or, perhaps, Normal. Regardless, they are unstable in Ena's world (which is very surreal and with little logic.), which causes the many shifts. Perhaps a level of... "Enlightenment" or "Awareness" into how strange the world around them is. Ena is at least somewhat aware of the strangeness as Yellow, since she called out Moony on a weird sentence in Auction Day. So, it is likely an evolution of it.

So we got a Korean mime with a French name, a Japanese guy with an English name, a big ol' Rubik's cube, a waning crescent with hair, and a mood-swingy polygon lady.

To me, Merci's and Robert's animations always seemed like they don't fit what they're saying... But then I found out that the subtitles are wrong and they're saying something completely different - which fits their animations way more entirely
because they are saying things differently, people theorized that the subtitles are just how ENA understands the words

the style of ena peaks a long dormant nostalgia within us by making everything familiar, yet seem impossibly alien at the same time. it's like a visual and audio representation of a blurred memory, which pertains a style and innocence we haven't seen, remembered, or experienced in decades.

I wouldn't say any of the characters have any "evil intentions" throughout the series, kind of like our world. It's more harder to read and sometimes got to read in between the details (like many have in the comments)
@@maximnikolaev6627 Well the only other ENA animation i know of is auction day, and while it might not be evil, the auctioneer dude is a little scummy. Like, he clearly didnt think that hourglass dog was worth anything yet he put on a false attitude to hype it up to get people to pay more for it.
@@Yipper64 meanwhile when you think of the bidders, they were bidding quite a few random things, the world is random and we can't be clear cut on what is "evil" as I said. (Not to mention in the same video Ena threw up the said dog that was in the hourglass so...)
