- Hi all,
Trying to re-edit and re-master this video has been the bane of my life for a few months now! Hence the reason partially you haven't seen much content from us in the last few months.
Editing this has just made me want to throw my laptop out the window in all honesty. It has crashed at every stage when re-linking, editing, sound mixing and exporting. I've never had a project be so problematic in all my life.
That's why we've decided we'll be moving to a different NLE for all our newer edits and just finishing off everything else in our current one. It just made us not want to edit anymore which is a real shame. But on to 2023!
Alas, we really hope you enjoy this re-master of our Ellie The Last of Us tribute. I hope you're all enjoying the TV show as much as we are. We definitely have plans to edit with it at some point!

As much as I have tried to find flaws in narrative terms in Ellie's development, I simply cannot. I've been going over part one and two for weeks, listening to different opinions, interpretations and perspectives of it and I simply can't argue anything against it that is truly significant in taking points away from the second game. I find it impressive how much they minimize the messages and emotions that the game has. No matter how hard I try, I only find justifications and solid elements to "defend" Ellie's behavior and how the plot and events happen. The game from the first moment I played it seemed wonderful to me and as I play it more and more, I simply cannot see it in any other way than to be a masterpiece.

But Ellie doesn't end up alone. She ends up with Dina.
Despite the ambiguity, Druckmann has said (years after he also said that players can draw any conclusion they want) that if players look closely they will see that Ellie and Dina are back together.
First, Dina never says she will leave Ellie. She says the opposite, at least twice. That night at the farm she doesn't say she won't wait for Ellie. She says she won't follow her to Santa Barbara - because she can't leave (or take) the baby. Something Ellie already knows.
What actually happened in the game was Dina asks Ellie what she is supposed to do while she is away, not knowing if she is dead. Ellie tells her that she doesn't plan on dying, meaning Dina should wait for her. But Dina points out that that plan didn't work for Jessie and Joel. It strikes a vein in Ellie whose journal says is already feeling insecure about her competence as a Dina's partner and protector. A stung Ellie tries to leave then and there. Dina tries to hang on to her with a last ditch plea to stay but recognizes the resolve in Ellie's eyes because she has seen that look before. A familiar sense of dread overtakes Dina as Ellie apologies. Tearfully, Dina takes a breath, decide something, then turns away and says, "I am not going to do this AGAIN?"
Do what again? Dina is referring to the fear she felt in the Seattle theatre everytime Ellie went out the door. The scene in the theatre dressing room between Ellie and Dina arguing about Ellie going after Nora without backup is meant to foreshadow this scene of Ellie leaving the farm.
In the theatre, a frustrated Dina, too sick to go with her, tells Ellie not to go, especially not alone. But Ellie (still feeling jealous of Jessie) snaps at Dina and goes anyway. Dina sighs and stands aside. Ellie returns injured and emotionally shaken. Dina meets her at the door, comforts her, and more than that, Dina makes a promise that Ellie will never lose her.
Now at the farm, when Dina says "I'm not going to do this again", she isn't telling Ellie she won't wait for her. Dina is telling Ellie she still can't go with her. Ellie tells her it is her choice to not come, then leaves fully expecting that going on this murder mission will not dissolve her relationship with Dina. Dina steps aside again having now decided that Ellie better make sure that this will be the last time she runs off like this.
The parallel to Ellie not talking to Joel for 2 years for taking away her agency, is Ellie taking away Dina's agency by trying to sneak away in the night. But Ellie does eventually forgive Joel, as Dina eventually forgives Ellie. We know that Dina forgives her because the hamsa bracelet is not with Ellie when she leaves the farm, but is then with Ellie when she returns to the farm. Ellie could only have gotten the bracelet again from Dina. Players are supposed to see that and understand because there is no other interpretation for it.

Read your description. Are you switching to Resolve? I've been considering it lately but it's still missing one thing in particular I need from Premiere, HDR monitoring in windows. If they add that I may make the move.
Hey Andy, planning to move over to Avid Media Composer as it’s something that we use at work daily. It has also become much more affordable with a monthly subscription of £21 rather than having to pay over £1.5k for a licence!
We do use Resolve occasionally, we think it’s great, unfortunately just not a fan of it’s trimming tool. We really like Avids media management. It’s second to none! Maybe it’s something you could look into?
@@ItsATwinThingYT Interesting, haven't tried Avid. For now I've just been using the free version of Resolve for little things although if I did move to that I would have to get the full version. Looks like that is $300, but I currently pay $60 a month for my Adobe subscription so probably wouldn't be too bad to switch, although I'd keep the cheaper Photoshop-only subscription from Adobe.
Specifically the things that are most crucial to me are the ability to work with HDR video, and having good color grading tools to be able to generate LUTs and apply those LUTs to create an SDR version of the project, plus an easy to use subtitling workflow, and access to detailed export encoders and settings. Premiere has all that for me for now, and Resolve has almost all of that, but it also has the ability to do everything I use After Effects for on top of that, and seems to perform better overall than Premiere. Technically Resolve could sometimes even replace what I use Mocha Pro for, although not necessarily in every situation.
I'd have to look into Avid, but I was pretty surprised to find just about everything I'd need out of both Premiere + After Effects in Resolve alone. When it comes to export options I use a plugin called Voukoder, and it looks like they don't support Avid. Although if they had enough native support for the options I need, then that would be fine.
@@AndyGilleand To be honest Davinci Resolve is definitely the way to get in that respect especially with a HDR workflow.
I believe you can also do conversions down to rec. 709 in Resolve but I've never done it myself. I know the basic theory of colour spaces and how some of it works but when it gets into HDR territory with HLG, PQ etc I'm still trying to get my head around all that information.
I think Resolve is definitely more up your street than Avid would be. We're just picking Avid because it's the NLE we're most familiar with on a day to bay basis, so it's less of a learning curve because you're already familiar with the interface and how it works. Which is always the biggest challenge when swapping software I find.

Perfect series, perfect video... Masterpiece... Btw, in the end, the camera zooms on Joel's guitar and on a firefly mark... Ellie is going to Fireflies to get sacrificed, right?? She has been left alone and is going to give herself. I havent seen this in any concluding comments, did I get it wrong??
TLOU part II storyline is a masterpiece but the only thing is that it doesn't go along as a game. Gamers are used to playing linear story, one view point and one sided characters. I think Cinematic movie like TV series will be perfectly match with this story.
I disagree that it doesn't go along with the game. You're still playing a linear story. You're just sent back to the 'beginning' again when you reach that point, and I had no issues with that at all.
If we had been swapping back-and-forth between Ellie and Abby the whole way through that would have been a more similar way to tell the story on TV as their journey runs parallel to one another. But in the game, that would have been far too disruptive and even less impactful I think.
@@ItsATwinThingYT what i meant by linear story is that the one,single perspective. Which in games mostly we don't get to play as a villain (or the other side of the character), some games may show the other side view but we don't play them mostly.
