      The word marriage and its definition belongs to (and originates from) the Bible. If you’re not judeo Christian it shouldn’t matter. Marriages are a religious type of civil unions. Call homosexual long term couples anything but married because they usually aren’t religious. If they were very religious, they wouldn’t want to call It marriages because religious gays respect gods living word in the Bible which says marriage is between a man and a woman. Solved. Make a non religious word to define homosexual civil unions. Or just call them civil unions .. my vote is for homocovenants or love covenant

      Totally unfair characterisation. Four years later, he FULLY supported gay marriage, as did Obama. ALL candidates have to consider how people will vote for them, and are never as open when facing election. But the facts speak for themselves: once in office, Obama and Biden legalised same-sex marriage. Judge them by their actions.

      Yes, he can “evolve” on the issue and change his mind, but if he was saying this in 2008, god knows what he would be saying back in the 70s. Meanwhile, in the 70s, Bernie Sanders was holding gay pride parades in his own state of Vermont, back when it was extremely unpopular to support LGBTQ rights. From a 2020 perspective, I am bewildered by the civility of this debate. And while I disagree with Palin on her stance on the definition of marriage, I am kind of in awe to hear her speak respectfully and calmly about this topic. It is a very different style of discourse than what we most often see today.
    It's also interesting to see how large a role the definition of marriage played in this debate back then, how important that was. They both argue in favor of expanding protections associated with domestic partnerships but don't think they should be called marriages. In many ways, the promises to expand legal protections were empty, as legal protections in most states were not expanded until marriage equality was achieved. The political landscape has changed so much since then, in so many ways.

      @Vylkeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ospreytalon8318 Yeah, that’s something at least, especially considering the year this was said. Although he only agrees on same rights for gay couples. Since he also agrees with the ridiculous religious take on it, he only defines marriage to be an act between a man and a woman only. This means he wasn’t in favor of gay couple getting legally married, which automatically denies them several rights because non-married couples are not the same as married ones, legally.

    All these recent comments criticising Biden are pathetic. You can't dismiss and dismantle the entirety of history, and decide every character of years past is terrible just because they didn't support a certain social cause. Social justice and mobility has advanced so quickly, that you'd literally be saying everyone born before 1960 was evil.
    Biden echoed Obama's official opinion at the time: they didn't support gay marriage. Except they really fucking did, and once elected they introduced it for everyone. So forgive them for having a view. In the end, they did what was right, regardless of their original belief.
