2 Stroke Mini Bike Thrash + Top Speed Run!

- We install a new coil and TCI box on our Yamaha KT100 2 stroke engine, and get our 2 stroke mini bike build running! We put a large rear sprocket on the mini bike, but it still has a very fast top speed- just under 50mph. The initial takeoff on this mini bike is not fast, but when the clutch engages and the 2 stroke engine hits power band, this fast mini bike takes off like a rocket.

You should add a jackshaft. You could fix the gearing to get into the power and sooner. Gain tons of acceleration and cut down the top speed at the same time.

@Garrett Paul Yes it does lol, it doesn't have a gearbox so the powerband pretty much determines the top speed.
@Garrett Paul Yes I know, but since the power band is high in the RPM range, it gives the feeling of more and more power coming on as you accelerate. Kind of like a turbocharger. I mean when you compare it to the linear power curve of a 4 stroke that these guys are used to.

Any father would be proud of a mini mayhem rally course int their yard. We all saw dat the smile on his face when he took the snowmobile thingy for a rip.
First it was the 65mph mower and now this... every year they must have a project that wants to kill them.
They should have attempted to put the motor in an xr100 or somthing like that
Don't forget ab the mini quad, that was pretty sketchy
I would love to see them put a big bore Banshee engine on the cross cart or build a completely new machine that is specifically made for such an engine.
They really puss out everytime things get even a little sketchy though. Wish they'd go a little harder on some of it. But this one they did ok.

I have been waiting for you guys to experience 2-stroke power band. I have run karts with KT100, which are great, but you would be even more shocked by 80cc or 125cc shifter motors
In 1968 I built a street legal 350cc shifter suspension minibike...
Wow that KT100 is awesome it’s like a giant version of my Goped motor. Love the 2-Stroke content. Now you see why two strokes are so awesome!

Sounds like it needs a bit of low end tuning, keeps bogging down when you mash the throttle

Yes but they are also running a really huge sprocket on it. That's for torque not speed

Raced with these in karts for 10 years, awesome little engines! Sounds like it’s bogging down on the low end. Try lean it up 1/8th of a turn on the low needle. When you were doing your top speed pull you can hear the engine “flatten” out and not pic up RPM, you can increase your high needle a tiny bit to tune that out and pick up more speed.

Nitro is basically a 2 stroke diesel.
I'd say 1:5th scale 23 - 50cc engine which is 2 stroke like this mini bike.
Something like a hpi baja 5b clone perhaps or some other clone of mcd, fg's 1:5th - 1/6th scale gas rc's ?

A motocross dirt bike engine from a kx100(liquid cooled 100cc 2 stroke) makes around 28hp stock. Get into liquid cooled stuff! That’s where the power is guys!!!

Take that V-tread tire’s off that thing and put a knobby tires on it and you will have more traction and control went threw this on my kids mini bike....🤘🏻👍🏻🤪
The v tread is great for mud and snow though 😁
If it had a cvt it could stay ind the powerband but that Thing is wicked!!
I've raced karts with these motors and there is no cvt that will hold together. It may not sound like it but its revving well over 10,000 rpm lol

Bill Bergen snowmobiles aren’t turning the rpms that a KT 100 is. A snowmobile clutch rated for 10,000 max rpm. Most sleds rev no higher than 8,500 rpm

Two smoke bikes,you gotta love 'em! The only downside is pre mixing the gas and oil,the power of a two stroke engine is just so crazy though. Once you get into the power band you just grip it and rip it as you hold on for dear life,there's nothing like it!

Many years ago used to race go karts with a 125cc Yamaha . Brought back a lot of memories . Depending on the track and the sprockets used we could get them suckers ripping at a 100mph . Taller the sprockets , the longer it takes for the clutch to lock up .
Mate, ripping along that road at 47mph on a tiny bike with no suspension is no mean feat. That's scary stuff! Legend.

I'm currently finishing a 250cc. V-twin shifter cart made from a manco 2 seater and a 88 yamaha route 66 street bike. Love the channel I get so much inspiration from you 2.

There's a lot more in that engine. It rarely even got into the powerband. Also, if that's the stock KT100 carb, there will be an adjustable high and low jet for tuning. In the kart you'd tweak those as you're racing to get the mixtures right, but it's easy because it's right beside your arm. Also, for starting on the karts, that would have an airbox on them with two holes in it. You would tap the holes with your hand to block them and help pull some fuel in for starting. Not so easy for you guys with a pod filter, but that's why it's taking some time to start. If you could somehow rig up an airbox with a hole you could block, it would start a lot easier.
I can see you guys putting a cordless drill holder on there some where so you can start it up when you’re out on the trail 😂
Great ending! Love these kind of having fun vids y'all make. I do think 47 was just getting started even geared as is should do 60 on asphalt. I certainly understand the sack size needed to ride one of these mega and monster and etc modern mini frames at those speeds. The fun factor is nearly 100% so that is all that matters!

I agree with both of your assesments near the end, gearing is close enough. My standard doodlebug framed mini with homeade wheelie bars, china TAV mild porting and cammed predator went 57 in the 1/8 at the track so i know this rig is capable of same or 60+.
Please follow up with some asphalt (lol auto correct came up asshat when i first typed that) vids of this mini cooking full speed with new tires. Those chevrons are same tire still on my bike that went 57 in the eighth but they do kinda suck. Curious what tire you might pick? If you read this today and have not bought any tires yet consider doing the popular modern "street tire" for mini's that loosely represents a modern performance motorcycle tire.

Even more fun power band and clutch were you can control when it kicks in.
Because the clutch has a high engadment, you always are blipping the throttle to keep rpms up so youre always on the edge of the engadment. When you cornor you are always keeping those rpms up by blipping the throttle. Never letting rpms fall.

If you want to gear it down so it has better take off, without the "we're going to die" level top speed, you could always put a jack shaft on it and do the gear reduction there instead of running that massive rear sprocket. That would also keep the rear sprocket away from the ground in the corners. Just a thought.

i do believe the reason it keeps cutting out on you, is because you have a glove over the gas cap, which isn’t letting any excess pressure release which creates a vacuum not letting any gas into the carburetor.
