    Explaining deductions isn't being negative, it's informative. The judges are taking those deductions whether or not the commentator points them out. Not to mention Tim Daggett compliments every single athlete multiple times throughout the evening, genuinely. I have to think that the people who are saying he's too negative are not familiar with gymnastics because people who understand the sport, understand that critiquing is a huge part of improving in the sport and being as prepared as possible for meets. I appreciate when commentators explain deductions so im not watching in ignorance. And not for nothing but Tim's love of the sport just radiates through his enthusiasm in his commentary. I truly dont know how some of you can't see that as positive

    Way to go, everyone! USA Gymnastics needs to help & support the men's program so that they are as stellar as the women!!

    Why do they keep showing shots of San Francisco when this event is in San Jose? They did it in the women’s broadcast too. It’s so annoying.

      He’s awesome as usual, and even better than before , even with his past injuries. However, he can’t get past the new kids who have been amazing.

    First of all, OH MY GOSH THESE ATHLETES ARE PHENOMENAL!!! I am so excited for the US MENS WORLD TEAM 23 and OLYMPIC TEAM 24!!! And SERIOUSLY NBCSports you have a) got to get some new commentators. Tim was fantastic but currently it’s like he’s commentating to the lowest common denominator in the viewing audience. I have started to watch with the volume down to 2 because he is so unbelievably dull to listen to. And b) GIVE THE MEN’S GYMNASTICS BETTER COVERAGE!!! It’s so unfortunate that Men’s competitions are relegated to either bizarre broadcast channels (CNBC REALLY?!?!) or just not covered AT ALL!! These athletes work SO HARD and their abilities are extraordinary!!! Seriously. PLEASE!!!!!

    The men are much better with their stuck landings in this current era. Now, they need to work more on landing straight up, instead of piked. Also handstands on bars could use some work.

    Everytime Dagget says they're doing well the gymnasts mess up, badly. It's state-of-the-art jinxing 101.

    "air flairs," like he forgot Kurt Thomas' name for a second. LOL. Come on Tim.

    • @Leeuhem
      @Leeuhem 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      'Air flares' are a separate skill. Tim was correct in his terminology. Kurt Thomas invented 'Thomas flares', breakdancers invented 'air flares' and Morgan Hamm brought air flares to gymnastics

    What I wish they would ban is back tumbling without back handspring..

    • @joyfuljaj
      @joyfuljaj 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why? I don't know anything about the dynamics of tumbling. I do remember John roethlisberger at one competition talking about how he couldn't believe they did things out of just a roundoff. He said he needed to do everything he could to generate power for his tumbling. Not being a gymnast I thought that the back handspring would just add more stuff to do rather than generate more power , but I guess I could see it being something that would give some whip like a tap swing on the high bar?

    I'm having a hard time understanding why in the world "bonus points" are awarded and added to performances. What is the purpose of that if it's not a procedure followed during Worlds or the Olympics?? I heard one of them say earlier it was done to give them more confidence (!!??) Seriously??? These men are not in kindergarten where they need some sort of gilding or gold stars just for participation, for cryin' out loud!! If ya get a 13, you get the blasted 13 and not add gilding points to make ya feel better. Cripes.

    • @joyfuljaj
      @joyfuljaj 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The purpose of the bonus system is to encourage the men to increase their difficulty. The US team has been points behind other teams on the world stage in maximum score potential because of their lack of difficulty. The us could perform almost perfect routines but they were going to lose because they're Max score was never going to match China and Japan and Russia. By giving them bonus points at national competitions it encourages them to compete harder skills without fear of losing position on the national team if they falter a little. They have to score within the top 10 or so gymnasts at Nationals to be on the team. National team position is crucial for the athletes funding. They decreased the bonus system this year and next year I believe there will be no bonus.

    I remember why I don’t miss Tim as an announcer. He spends the entire time being negative and tearing apart every deduction no matter how small. This man is deathly allergic to giving anyone more than one compliment unless it’s Simone.

    • @taylorburtis
      @taylorburtis 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      We clearly weren’t watching the same meet lmao. Ya, Tim’s sucks- but he literally complimented every routine… he pointed out major deductions lmao.

    • @LoyaFrostwind
      @LoyaFrostwind 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      It’s good that he explains the deductions. Then we can watch competitions more intelligently. It’s more meaningful when we’re not wondering why one athlete got a higher score than another, especially when we don’t know and/or can’t see the difference.

    • @bwair33
      @bwair33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! As I watched I was like damn y is the announcer so negative?

  • @martinosborne9140

    Psychologically, appearance can affect scores. The Chinese men shave (or closely trim) their underarms. They understand that it is important to not distract the eyes of the judges from seeing the line of the body, which includes the line that flows through the armpits to the hands. It seems like Asher Hong trims his, but for so many USA men, it’s not “mannish” to trim the armpits. They have no idea how many tenths of points they may have lost in P-Bar, etc., where the armpits are exposed, because a judge’s eyes could not appreciate the lines that go up the body due to a forest of hair.

    Why is Tim still a commentator? He’s annoying, negative, outdated & says the same things over and over. The women’s’ program has has a PR makeover and everything is a positive spin, and it’s working. Muzzle Tim, for the love of god.
