Yah. These are the same thing as DLLs, the actual drivers have .sys as file extension. Delete those and then you get into the _actual_ trouble.
@@FulllNameUnknown Similar, except .sys to the Windows kernel is like .dll to applications. Both have extra code separate from the core code, interacting with it and extending it, they just run at different hardware privilege levels.

For me it is a nice knowledge and experiment to me because i never see this thing before

I always wondered if Win 7 had an animation for the logo besides the spheres that make it appear.
Im betting the pc that u used didnt have the animation cuz it had too little memory or something?
8 Gb of RAM, I'd say powerful overall for its time. I could actually see the logo doing something, I just wasn't sure if it was animated or it was my eyes going nuts.

My grandpa's Windows XP can be alive without the sound driver.
When a sound plays, it replaces with a beep because the Sound Driver
is gone.

Nope, device drivers are under C:\Windows\System32\drivers\*.sys, try to delete these files
Correct. And also %windir%\Drivers\ I think.
Also System32\DriverStore on Windows versions with CBS. Those drv files are just placeholders for 16-bit Windows 3.1 apps (drv is the old 16-bit driver format, no way to load those in Windows NT).

When I tried that, Windows would no longer boot, and claims that %windir%\system32\drivers\pci.sys is missing or corrupt
This is quite cool, I have been trying this same experiment on windows XP, everytime I try to delete a driver, Windows XP restarts. Then it starts a recovery process that I cant skip. And the driver gets restored. Do any of you know how to stop that recovery so that I can delete a few drivers? I try this on a Windows XP VM and I just get that error that the drivers are only readable everytime I try to delete it. From what I know, this is a error from the setup. What do you guys think?
I did that in windows 10, in boot I fit the famous BSOD "IRQ_IS_LESS_THAN_GREATER_THAN" and refused to boot.. Enderman got lucky... I'm jealous!

I'm suprised that the resolution or color settings never changed, since no video drivers can mess up video output.

Quite strange that Windows XP‘s RE looks like Windows 7‘s in Enderman‘s setup..
That's because it is.
The reason the install disk is like windows 7 is because well, it is windows 7, I think it’s because windows 7 was the first to have recovery tools on a disk and you didn’t have to flash or wirite anything like old windows versions to get the recovery tools

windows 10 kinda works fine. i use bootcamp from my mac and it used to not have any drivers (in a installed way) and it suprisingly worked well. until i needed a bluetooth driver so i installed them.

Summary: Windows will run without drivers, although you wont be able to do anything.
Try deleting components and delete the drives and temp and other .sys and files folders or anything

VM has its own drivers too, I think
He didn't delete the real drivers (sys files in system32\drivers). drv files are just legacy stuff for some apps; basically just oddly named DLLs.

no, you can't run explorer within the setup
ecovery environment as it will pop up an error message and refuse to run, in fact must applications won't run in that environment.
