The "all toads are frogs" thing reminded me of when I was studying entomology, and learned about "true bugs" (Heteroptera), and that "All bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs". My prof would call us out in class if we called anything that wasn't in the Heteroptera order a bug.
This of course reminds me of the **other** toads in Harry Potter, the ones in the pet shop who I believe were described as “gulping wetly and feasting on dead blowflies”! 😀

The silly thing about this is that the Panamanian Golden Frog (Atelopus zeteki) is a scientific toad, but the North American Spadefoot toads (Scaphiopodidae) are not! But Trevor there is both a scientific and colloquial toad.
When I cared for spiders, we would put the crickets on ice just long enough to calm them down, making feeding easier. Maybe you could do the same with the cockroaches?
