I squealed out loud when I saw the thumbnail! Diamond dove is literally my dream pet, I've planned on getting a pair for years. Whenever my boyfriend and I move to a bigger place, we're getting diamond doves for sure! Looking forward to see more of little Dazzle!
She’s so beautiful! I also love pigeons and doves, although I didn’t realize that they were so closely related until I learned that the word in Spanish is the same for both of them and looked into it
@@tinakersten3779 I just realised that there are two different words - and therfor birds - in english! I was always used to essentially differentiate them by where they were found...
Since I speak German, where there's only one word for them, I didn't know they are actually two birds. I thought English in its weirdness has just two words for the same kind of animal xD So... what's the difference between a dove and a pigeon?
she looks like a female to me by the eye ring, but I always find with any dove it's easier to make a pretty good guess on their gender by their behaviour - male diamond doves will do their impressive mating display to their reflection or anything they see they want to mate with (one of my males will do it at literally any bird that is NOT a diamond dove... you can't mate with a ringneck dove, pigeon, or quail sweetie...) while females typically would not do this mating display (though there can always be exceptions) and females tend to be quieter than the males. My 2 males coo and hoot all day long! So if she's fairly quiet and has never done the mating "dance", I'd say you can be almost certain she's a female!
She's beautiful! I would love to keep doves sometime, they're such incredible animals & so much smarter than most people think. I'm going to start my journey to become a certified animal keeper next year, & am hoping to work in wildlife rescue & conservation, & this channel is so helpful & inspiring 💛
Is Dazzle too small to get along with your existing flock of pigeons/doves? If you get another diamond dove, will you be housing them all together, or will Dazzle and her companion be separated? Also, if you get another one, you should name them Razzle.
“They’re fairly easy to provide for, and they can be incredibly rewarding to watch thrive in your care. They also have fun personalities, once you get to know them, and if they’re treated kindly and given plenty of attention, they can respond with trust and affection.”
hello! I just found your video today and I got so excited! I have a little Diamond Dove name bubbles! And I love learning as much about her as I can! So I very much enjoyed watching this with her!
what a gorgeous little bird! that colouration is incredibly unusual! I wonder if the american population of diamond doves have ended up a lighter colour than the aussie natives through selective breeding, they look so different to the ones I've seen in the wild (growing up my town had an aviary in the park with some of these guys in there, along with other aussie native birds - the crested pigeons were my favourite)
The light colour is definitely more sought-after than the regular, so it makes sense that a lot of the diamonds in the US are light. I personally prefer the original colouring, I love their prominent white spots!
There are no breeding populations of diamond doves in the wild in the US so it's not natural selection. It could be either a selected preference of breeders in the US. Or it could be based on a smaller gene pool of the population of birds in captivity in the US in which that coloration is predominant.
Dazzle is awesome, welcome to the Interwebs! Having been so accustomed to regular sized doves and pigeons, my brain kept telling me there is optical trickery involved.
*goes off to research so other commenters don't have to* Yeah, looks like she's a Blue White-Rump or White-Tail Diamond Dove -- seems there's a market for them as pets due to their color genetics. The eye ring pattern does suggest she's female; the males with that pattern have an even more distinct red ring than typical.
I picked up a dishevelled little juvenile right in the middle of my street in Cape Town, South Africa, in December 2023. I took it in and decided to name it after the street in which I picked it up, Amanda. It's now almost 6 months later and, as luck would have it, it turned out that Amanda is actually a dude. He's such a delightful little character. Love him to bits.
She looks just like my female diamond dove, Prince! (named after the song by Prince “When Doves Cry” lol) She is definitely an adult female. She’s beautiful. DDs are an absolute pleasure to have.
We were in pet smart a few months ago,my wife seen ours. Couldn't leave with out her. Diamond looks identical to Dazzle color, eyes. We finally found a gentleman who raises them after months of looking. Got three very very young doves to go with diamond. Now just have to figure out their sex. We also do parrot rescue. Done rescue for years, so these little guys are new to us. We need info on how to tell their sex, other than maturity.
@Animalwondersmontana How did you get. Your diamond dove to just be so calm and be able to hold her? My diamond doves never want me to lift them up especially the male the female prefers pets
She looks like a lace phase diamond dove from the tiny bit Ive read. And Im guessing def a female by her eye ring. The different morphs dont seem to change the eyes.

In German it's the same word too, that's how i found out.
as a portuguese speaker, i'm just now realising they're two different birds. I thought pigeons were the male and doves were female lol

Makes me miss my diamond dove, Soap. He passed almost two years ago now.
Sorry to hear about that! I’m here if you’re ever sad about it. ✌️ 😔 ❤️
Sorry about your loss! Hope you find another just as good!
Sorry for your loss, they are truly adorable little beings!❤❤❤
She's so small and good, omg.
Also, I need that mana-tea shirt like yesterday.
I'm not sure about the shirt, but you can definitely find silicone tea steepers that are shaped like manatees as well

I cannot believe how small she is!
I used to have two! They’re such great birds
One of min used to fly to me just to hang out with me, they also loved my phone lol!

I don't live in Australia, but the galahs seem really cool.
@@juliusroman8616 They are really cool looking birds! But also not particularly smart as far as parrot type birds go...
I've never seen a diamond dove, how pretty! And the name is *chef's kiss*
She's adorable. Welcome home Dazzle
She is adorable
She's so cute and gorgeous! I hope you will make another video about her.
This channel is an antidote to the world.
Dazzle is so adorable..so glad she has a wonderful forever home with great care.
Is amazing to see a pigeon on this channel after a while
I rescued a baby dove 🕊 last year who still comes to check me out. Hoping she’ll go on to have a long life!

What a pretty bird! I really like doves, not sure why, I just think they are really lovely
In my experience diamond doves that are male tend to be really agressive to their reflection sooo...that might help
I love diamond doves! I plan to eventually own a few once I'm able to!
she looks like my female diamond dove with the less distinct spots, whose coloration i believe is called blue white tail laced
I Love my Diamond waddles ❤ such a beautiful calm bird.
This seems like something Emily from Snake discovery would know about! She primarily keeps reptiles now but is super knowledgeable about birds!
She has a parrot not doves
That and some of her snakes would eat these eggs so it would make sense for her to get some or button quail
@@juliac3933 But she has worked with tons of birds. Birds were her passion before she got into reptiles.

My diamond dove loves to nest in my palm, and often vibrates(not the wings), when my other hand approach to rub her neck, any idea why?

I was told by a breeder only the males toots and also that they don't get the puffy eye ring til one year old. He has 600 of them.
This kind of bird dove also found in India west bengal
