For everyone messaging me saying TVM has stole my video idea, he hasn’t 😂 he’s mentioned me in the video and is basically talking about my video. I appreciate the mention and tag as it is extra exposure for my small channel ✌🏻
I wish CEX had a competitor on the highstreet, if only to just undercut them in the gaming sector, as the local mobile phone shops and music stores and even pawn shops are still providing competition in the other sectors CEX operates.
They were bought out by Frasers Group (owners of Game). All of the stores were either closed altogether or rebranded to Game if there was no Game store already in the area. I loved the Gamestation store in my town (Bridgend, S. Wales) but sadly they were within spitting distance of the Game store that had been there since the Electronics Boutique days.
I am a person who has a slight issue with CEX. Well, with my local CEX. My local used to be very dodgy with trade ins. You could take in a fully boxed and never used limited edition console and tbey would offer you a category B trade in. They'd use the smallest excuse to downgrade your trade. Then if you took it, you'd find said console on display a day later at the fully boxed and mint price. Not the grade they bought it for. To me that's pretty scummy of them. If I traded I went to other stores further away to get a legit value.
@@Hexx_Iztenze Should complain to CEX head office. If it is bad rep for them they may send an agent in undercover with a high grade item see if they can find evidence of undervaluing an appraisal. I know they invested incompetence at my local one after employees were taking boxes at face value and nor even inspecting the contents. A friend traded in a copy of a WWE game for a copy of Skyrim. When he got home he realised the game was still in his console and the employee had paid for an empty box. He took the game disk down later that day...but was horrified he wasn't challenged or had the quality of the disk inspected.
I use my local cex a lot, its only a small store but i usually look in there for a browse, see whats new. I buy a lot of physical media, not just games, but dvd and blu-ray as well, and theres not many stores about. I have a game and hmv, but no independent stores in my town, hate having to buy things online if i cant get them shopping, much prefer to support stores
My biggest issue with CEX is that the controllers they sell are often dirty and malfunctioning. I bought 3 DualShock 3 controllers and 2 DualShock 2 controllers from them and each one has some sort of ghosting issue, making misinputs, and each one was caked in dirt. My DS3 controllers all are unable to connect wirelessly and don't hold power unless I plug them in. They knowingly sell them in such a state. It's not right for them to ignore the maintenance and refurbishment of their stock, especially considering that they are a big company and can definitely afford to do so. You'd think the controllers being sold for upwards of £15 would be refurbished and cleaned to better justify the price. DualShock 3 controllers cost around £25 and should definitely be properly cared for.
@jasonbagnall576 well I have a rule only pay £10 of less for a 4k in there or go buy new had some canny deals new Topgun Megan and Alita all under a tenner
CeX will not close down, they are a franchise so each store is individually owned , some people may own more than one store but even if they shut down it wouldn’t matter to the other stores! Just like McDonald stores!

I think CEX is part of a tradition for me, they are at my local train station in the city centre, always would grab a coffee and buy a few cheap 360 or PS3 games. Been doing so since 2005 so this would affect me in a big way.
My issue with cex is how they muscled in and basically created the downfall of independent stores. My home town only has 1 indie store left due to the aggressive stance that cex took. I would rather put money in the pockets of people that contributed to local economies rather than the suit wearing wallet stuffers that own cex.
Maybe CEX won’t go away completely, but there’s always the possibility of them closing stores one day and moving to online only (similar to music magpie or other sites like that).
CEX haa sort of picked up where Cash Converters left off in Belfast - used to be CC was the place I'd take games, DVDs etc. That said, the CEX has at some point in the past few years gone from two floors to one - that seems to be purely about the decline in DVDs (or not being able to justify charging much for most of them) as they now just have a small section for those on the ground floor. Wish me luck folks, I have a whole load of stuff to take to trade in one of these days...
Problem with the independent stores is most have a poor online presence. Many don’t have websites with their stock online, with their online presence depending a lot on Facebook and such. If these Indy stores all had decent websites and online shop fronts that would make things so much better for those of us who would otherwise have to drive hundreds of miles just to visit their stores.
One thing I'd like to point out is CEX is a franchise. They don't own their stores; independent traders are choosing to buy into CEX's set rules and domination. Other, interesting video.
Once every gaming platform fully transitions to digital only? There will be no need for a physical games section of CEX. At that point they're going to deep discount everything and clear it all out.
say you are looking for PS4 games and you live for example Aldershot go to that catagory and on the left of the window there will be filters to select the store in question, on mobile at the top of the stock list for that catagory select "Filter -> Stores then type your town/area in the search field to limit the search to that one branch
I used to buy and trade in at my local CeX all the time until one employee kept accusing me of bringing in damaged games which had nothing wrong with them. I have to travel to another CeX a few miles away to actually trade in nowadays. I told this other store about this guy and even they told me they had people complaining about him too. Unfortunately I now actively avoid my local if that one employee is working there, which sucks as the other staff are not too bad. Even reported this guy to CeX and they chose to side with him even after telling them what the other store said. The CeX customer service is absolute garbage and literally anything you tell them, they will tell you you’re wrong they’re always right. Of all the gaming stores I’ve shopped at in the UK, CeX is by far the worst. If they did shut down I wouldn’t miss them at all as they have too much of a monopoly on the market nowadays and more than 80% of the time I go into them disappointed with over market pricing, reprinted covers and horribly damaged games. It’s that bad that I actually prefer eBay and Vinted. At least with them I know I get what I see in condition and I can return it with no major issues unlike CeX.
while i think the insane markup on some items is disgusting (CEX Buying DVDs for 1p and them being sold on for £1) but as an anime fan my local CEX is the only place i can get my fix without sailing the 7 seas... its unfortunate but as others have mentioned do wish there was another "second hand entertainment" type store but alas we are stuck with what we have
I dont find it a pleasant shopping experience but they have enabled me to rack up some cheaper games without going online for them. you have to check the discs though and insist they use the disc polishers when needed. if you are selective it works but they are not cheap for hardware
Them dictating prices is very true I had a rare dvd that I hadn't seen anywhere I looked on the cex website it wasn't available anywhere in England and on eBay was going for around £15 Cex website said it would offer me £7 But since it wasn't available anywhere else they actually gave me £9 I checked the website it sold within a week
😐 If my local Cex, is closing down or completing closed then I, will be very sad. 🙂 However, it won't happen because, CeX as a company, is doing to darn well. 🙂 I did a lot of tradings with CeX before when I, have brought either one, two, three or more DVDs from one of my local charity shops, for 10 pence each and I, have made a successful profit on vouchers. 🙂 Once after I, have raised enough vouchers then I, will treat my self by either getting something from my local CeX or order it (or them) from online.
If I hadn't managed to get a PS5 on launch I would have just waited rather than buying one at an inflated price. If I had kids I would tell them they have to wait as well.
