    Hi. Are witness cones needed for every firing or for just occasional testing? Where can more be bought?

      Well.. The correct answer is they should be used on every firing on every shelf. (We sell them) Personally I don't use them on every firing as if the pieces that came out of the previous firing look great, then I would assume the kiln is doing what I wanted. If I am unsure of what the kiln is doing, or if I wanted to check to callibrate the kiln, then I would put some sets in. If the kiln is the centre of your business then checking regularly would not be a bad idea, if nothing more it gives you peace of mind. Often, the most interesting benefit of using multiple sets of cones in a firing is seeing the difference in heatwork from top to bottom of your chamber.

    That looks like the perfect size kiln how many sq ft is that one? I'm surprised it only requires a 30A breaker. Seems all the kilns I'm looking at here in the US (3-4 sq ft) want a 50A breaker! ?? What's up with that?

      3.3 cubic foot. The Amperage supply will be influenced by the maximum temperature of the kiln. The standard Studio 1 we sell is limited to not fire up to Stoneware temperatures which helps accommodate it to a 30amp supply. If we went hotter 30amp would not be enough.

    How much ventilation is recommended for indoor usage? Thanks.

      As much as you can get. Safe use of a kiln cannot be considered without ventilation. You need ventilation and air flow to the kiln and away from the kiln too.

    How many feet from a wall should a electric kiln be?

    • @HobbyCeramicraft
      @HobbyCeramicraft  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the size of the kiln and how well insulated the kiln walls are.. some electric kilns have very well insulated walls and hardly get hot during firing, whereas others get hot enough to burn on the outside during firings. As a rule i would give yourself at least 1 foot from any non combustible surface, on a larger kiln, potentially 2. Do not cram a kiln into any available space, they need circulating air to keep them cool and also feed the atmosphere within the chamber.
