    Very much so needed!!!
    I know where ive worked before in many of the different jobs teaching ceramics, one place had NO ventalation & didnt want the expense or thought it was necessary.?
    So firing was only done after all the kids had gone home.

    I think you are one of the gems here in pottery land and I am very happy I discovered your videos just this past week. I've spent hours watching all kinds of stuff you have put up. While watching this video I caught something that I want to bring to your attention. At time stamp 10:21, you have already attached the hose to the plenum(box under kiln bottom), and attached ther plenum to kiln bottom. As you are turning the stand around so the feet go to the floor, I noticed a most definite gap about an eighth on an inch from ther mounting lip to the stand. This will greatly affect the vacuum you are seeking with the vent. I have found it imperative to tighten those nuts with a tool such as a box wrench or crescent wrench, this will make sure your mounting of the plenum is quite secure.
    My very best to you and all your terrific efforts!
    Nick

    This video tutorial has come at such a good time for me as my first ever (baby) kiln arrived 2 weeks ago and I’ve been wondering how to go about attaching a kiln vent. Thank you!

      How did you seal the vent around the wood in the window?

    Jessica- this is awesome- thank you! So to be clear- this is to exhaust out the off gassing fumes? This doesn’t lower the temp of the kiln? Kindly, Heather

      Yes, it will not lower the temp of the kiln. It will just exhaust the off gassing.☺️

    No talk about how to adjust the amount of air drawn through the vent?

    Perfect timing. I ordered a Rohde kiln. It will arrive in two months (so long!!). A question about the blower. Are plants able to survive the hot air? Or is it best to put the blower far away from plants and trees?

      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The heat coming out is similar to that of a dryer. I would not have it blowing directly on delicate plants but if its a few feet away it should be fine.

    I love your videos. I have a question. Can you vent this without the exhaust motor? For example I am planning on putting my kiln in my garage temporarily and do not want to make a hole through the garage wall. I wondered if I could just vent it by connecting the duct to the bottom and leaving the other end outside my garage door while firing? I wasn't sure if this would cause any issues without an exhaust motor. We are going to later build a storage building in the backyard and I can vent it with a exhaust motor later. Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for the very instructional video, you really made it look easy so I would like to try. I would like to ask you, where did you buy the kit for your kiln? Thanks

    How loud is the L&L Vent-Sure downdraft vent? Anything you can compare it to noise-wise? I couldn't find a sones rating to the L&L site.

    My old cress kiln has a metal plate on the bottom and an open frame stand. How would I attach a vent to it?

    Thanks for making this video, I've been thinking about installing a kiln vent in my kiln. Do you run the blower fan during the entire firing schedule, or just when it reaches a certain temperature? Is there a way to control the speed? I imagine that a small kiln like that would require less air movement than your larger one

      I run the vent fan the entire firing then once the kiln shuts off I turn the vent off. :)

    Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing. Did you have to cut a hole trough the window?😮I have a double glazed tilt window in the basement and thinking how to get this done..🫨

    Where can we purchase a kiln vent? Skutt kind sells one for approx. 695.00!!! Would a place like Home Depot sell similar parts for much cheaper? Thanks. Love you and all your videos!

    The bottom of my kiln doesn’t come off at all. It is wrapped with a big piece of steel. It’s an older kiln with a kiln sitter.

    Does that kiln work with a 120v?

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one is a 240v but you ca get kiln that will go on 120v but they don't get hot enough to fire to cone 5 just low fire at cone 04.

    My kiln vent required a hole drilled in top also

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips
      @JessicaPutnamPhillips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must have a different vent system than mine, the bottom mount vent system I use only needs a hole in the bottom. :)

    Some of your electrical work wasn't done by an electrician. You should have it checked.
