Just started in July in the nail world , I was so disappointed that my very first set took me about 5 hours. Now I feel better that I'm not the only one 😁. Now it takes me two hours. Thank for sharing your tips💕
Learning to talk to my clients without making eye contact was a huge thing for me. Once I learned how to have a meaningful conversation with my peeps while continuing to work, my speed greatly increased. I'm also a tech who finds it faster to get the product on fast and then file it into shape.
Tracey, you've said all of these things to us in videos every time you do a set for us. Thank you for saying them again and again and being consistent!!! It helps to have them imprinted on my brain! I hear your voice every time I start prep and cuticle work. :)
With your help I did my mum's infill in 1 hour :) and the art work in half an hour,it looks great :) I used all gel products. I used to do it in 3 hours or more
Thanks so much for this yesterday I did a four hour full set and was about to quit, then I heard you say your first was five hours, thanks for hope. I am in nail school but it's online so I mostly learn from young nails, keep up the good work.
So awesome to hear that you did not quit! I have been looking for an online nail tech program! Do you mind sharing what yours is called and if you recommend it? Thank you
Great advise!! As a brand new tech, I thank my lucky stars that I found YN a few months before starting my nail tech program because between all of your awesome TH-cam videos and investing in OWC Mastering Acrylic, I’m a brand new tech that does 1.5-2 hour full sets (and getting faster every day) and who charges what I’m worth!!! Could NOT have done any of it without you!!!
Tracey thanks for the square form tip! I have a few nails that I just can form properly because they are square. I’ll definitely be using that gold nugget!!! 🤩😘😘
Thank you, it takes me SUCH a long time to do nails ( 3hrs a Set ) and it’s mostly because I’m worried about my perfect shape and acrylic application but I definitely need to speed things up 💯💯💯
Right now I’m at 1hr without polish or design but I do a lot of hand painted work so a fill is 1hr & 15-30mins, a full set with consultation is 2hrs. Definitely getting faster with the more acrylic clients that I do. My gel manicures are 45mins-1hr. Thanks for the extra tips. I already have 2 lamps & I prep my files before hand too. Also I find it helps if clients send me their designs before hand so I can have everything out & not waste time picking colors or designs
Tracey thanks for the advice I’m always overthinking but I promise your voice is always in my head I always hear “ don’t over think it “ “ first 3 nails don’t count “ I love how you guys explain details it helps so much ! Definitely appreciate young nails 🥰
These are fantastic tips Tracey! I've been doing my own gel nails for quite some time now but unfortunately they still take hours even when I really try to be quicker and watch my time so now I just do them in a 2 part series for example I'll do the fill 1 day and design the next day so I'm not up all night trying to finish my nails when i have to be up early from work. Sometimes if the design is more elaborate I'll even only get to finish 1 hand and do the other hand the next day lol One of the best tips that you gave in your how much series video was that you dont have to fully cure when doing a multi layered design on the nail so just flash cure and set it then do the full cure at the end. Even if full cures only take between 30 to 60 seconds it can really add up especially when you're working with one finger at a time so I loved that tip because I always thought you had to do a full cure pretty much every time you stuck your hand in the lamp. I would love to see more how much gel videos and explanations of your time saving tips in real time. You're awesome!
Hahaha I’m so so glad to hear that someone else has been through what I’ve been through in the nail process! Wow!! I’m in shock because I’ve done all these things that were mentioned I over think way too much!!!! Thank you guys for this!!
i take like three hours to do a set and it frustrates me and i know my client doesn’t want to sit there that long! i’m excited to try out these tips and tricks because i really want to cut down my time!! i’m someone who overthinks alit and i’m such a perfectionist and it gets to me when doing nails
Your correct on all ten tips!!! I love the idea of keeping the duller bits for Gel Nails. And remember, just because you may replace your lamp after a year or so due to longer cure times, doesnt mean you throw it away, save it as a back up just in case something does happen to the fresh one(s). Tip# 11: I have learned over the years that the minute you let go of your clients hand while working, it slows down time because you start to chat too much, and dilly-dally. Talk as much as you want but NEVER let go of that hand your working on!!! hahahaha
Ok. I can improve on atleast 5 out of ten time consuming things🙈 Thanks for this video! I will work on my timing some more and see how much more I can save with these helpfull tips😀👌🏻
I really needed to hear this! I’m going to put these tips into play and I’ll come back and let you know how I did. I’m at 1 hour and a half for full sets AND fills. Which shouldn’t be the case!
You are my Career Angel Tracy! I’ve been a licensed tech for over 20 years but I’m just getting back into extensions after working in a holistic day spa for 7 years. It’s kinda like being back in beauty school. I know enough to know how rusty I am!
I'm a "in your head" and "product over worker" 😂 Ohhh and very much "obsessed with perfection" . The list isn't over, I may be back with another edit 😂😂😂
Love this tutorial ,It inspires me so much because my timing Is so slow, thankyou for your tips ,they mean a lot to many of us Who arent getting It right.❤️
Tracy how long do you recommend a tech should be taking for a full set with basic nail art and a colour change for acrylic and for hard gels please. From the moment the client walks in to leaving ( nail photos included)
I’ve only been doing this for a year and a half so I’m definitely not one to give advice but I want to second what you said about getting two lights. I have 2 in the salon but occasionally I have to do a client at home on my portable desk. I only bring one home when I do it. Yesterday a set that should have taken me an hour took me an hour and 25 because I was sitting and waiting for the light and it was super awkward to work on her other hand with the light in front of me.
Great tips! I feel I’m getting slower with time but what it breaks down to, I’m just wasting time on stupid things. I like the idea of getting forms and files prepped ahead of time.
In a gel tech and being precise with my application helps me a lot cause i literally almost only need a soft buff over the top and to clean the shape and thats it.
I felt I was really taking a long time doing a set for 1 he 45 min when I started.. it’s been almost a year now since then and I am down 45 min - 1 hr 15 min for a set (depending on shape/length). But I still think it’s too long. I use tips instead of forms. Any advice to get faster?
you read my mind for this topic! I really struggle with time and I believe I file too much for shaping 😔 I’ve heard that over filing can lead to lifting. Can this be the reason why my clients nails don’t last more than 3 weeks?
Another thing that helps save time is anticipating your clients need. For instance if ya know shes acrylic and loves bright colors have a few out for her (if you're using acrylic for design/color work like I do)
I’m fresh out of school but my salon doesn’t want me to do nails because I take so long, but I know I won’t get any better without practice. I’m new to my area so I have no one to practice on and I’m not really sure what to do. I did mostly acrylic in school, and this salon only does dip. It’s really overwhelming and discouraging any advice I’d appreciated.
If you get faster at acrylic, will they allow you to do those services or will you only be able to do dip either way? If you are not able to do the services you want, you may want to look into going to another salon. If that's not an option or you can do acrylics when you get faster, see if you can practice on anyone else at the salon or work on a trainer hand to get the procedures down. Also practice on yourself to get the feel of a real hand. Speed will come with practice and repetition, but if you aren't able to practice, it's difficult to build that speed.
Thank goodness it's not only me spending five hours on a full set! 😌 Also the perfectionism gets me down... 😬
Totally not alone.
you are so right... I spent 4 hours in a set last week... I was so stressed! I wish you all the best doing nails :)
Diana Ruvalcaba bruh Last week I had two clients I started at 12 pm and got finished around 8pm kms 🤦🏽♀️
Thank god im not the only one...I’ve been so hard on myself
The same 3 hrs 😞
Just started in July in the nail world , I was so disappointed that my very first set took me about 5 hours. Now I feel better that I'm not the only one 😁. Now it takes me two hours. Thank for sharing your tips💕
Not the only on for sure! We all start somewhere
Same here! Alot of times, I'd do them in 2 sessions, 2 different days 😂
Are you on IG it or anything? I love connecting with other DIY nail peeps!
I literally feel the same
Learning to talk to my clients without making eye contact was a huge thing for me. Once I learned how to have a meaningful conversation with my peeps while continuing to work, my speed greatly increased. I'm also a tech who finds it faster to get the product on fast and then file it into shape.
For sure! All about dialing it in for what works for you
Tracey, you ARE THE Martha Stewart of nails! YOU ROCK THANK YOU!
Lol thanks
Tracey, you've said all of these things to us in videos every time you do a set for us. Thank you for saying them again and again and being consistent!!! It helps to have them imprinted on my brain! I hear your voice every time I start prep and cuticle work. :)
That's awesome happy you are enjoying the content
Lawd you may have just saved my anxiety!!! Thank you for the wonderful tips!!!
With your help I did my mum's infill in 1 hour :) and the art work in half an hour,it looks great :) I used all gel products. I used to do it in 3 hours or more
That is amazing!! Congrats, so happy to hear that.

❤️❤️
Thank you, it takes me SUCH a long time to do nails ( 3hrs a Set ) and it’s mostly because I’m worried about my perfect shape and acrylic application but I definitely need to speed things up 💯💯💯
Yep definitely our own selves that hold us back, like she says don't over think it!

Thanks for sharing this ❤️.
I struggle with time, it take me 3 to 4 hours to finish a basic set 😩 and it's driving me crazy 😖.
beamer bentley me too 😆
Same🙈
Just takes some practice and letting things go, keep at it, happy this helped!
I used to take 4 hours too, now im on 2-2.30! Just keep practicing
Same for me!
