I love that! Whoever said that is SO right. Since social media, us people have become so much less grateful and thoughtful. When I think about it, I only like videos rarely since so many videos out there are just not worth liking. So yes! All the likes on videos should be truly appreciated because they are like compliments.❤

omg same!! AuDHD with CPTSD (and more) childhood was simply delightful 🙄 i continue to have problems with socialising with humans but I've loved animals more than anything since forever! over years I BEGGED ny parents for an pet 24/7 until they gave in when I was 8 and got me a baby hamster. As they say, the rest was history :D my AuDHD makes my interests weird but rescuing/keeping hamsters have been a lifelong hyperfixation that my whole life is planned around and I can't imagine that will ever change, love those little guys

I don't think I've ever commented on your channel before but I want to tell you how much joy you've brought to my life. Because somehow, someway, your video showed up on my youtube front page, despite never having searched for anything about hamsters. I had never owned a hamster before, even as a child, although I'd wanted to.
So a couple months and lots of research later, I rescued my first hamster, a robo. He came from a a well-intentioned young woman who no longer wanted to take care of him. Now that spoiled boy has a 55 gallon tank split into three sections, the two sides have 10" of fluff and the center third is a huge sand pit. He has tunnels leading to the sand pit from both sides, a bridge and a branch to cross it topside, and a 12" wheel on a third level, because he has a tank topper on one side so his wheel is on a platform almost to the top of the tank. Just today I've been handmaking a new tunnel toy because I have plans to build a second tank topper and add a level with a tray of grass.
SPOILED. And so, so cute. He gets gourmet food from Etsy and never runs wants for mealworms. His favorite. This boy, named Capricorn, doesn't even let me touch him, and yet everything he does makes me sooo happy! When I clean out and change up one side of his fluff (I only change out one side at a time) I literally wait until he wakes up and film him exploring his new habitat. I LOVE HIM. And I love making him happy. So thank you for that, because it's so fulfilling to give him the best life possible! And it's because your video found its way to me when I didn't even know I needed a hamster.

Omg you are the reason my hamster is still alive. I got my first hamster at 8 after begging my parents for 2 years. The reason I wanted to get one is because I had been watching slick slime Sam. They had hamsters and that’s why I wanted to get one. After one of the video finished I saw your video about how all of the things they were doing were wrong and they were treating the hamsters and other animals very poorly. And that’s where my hamster love truly began I start to watch a bunch of your videos and learned proper hamster care. When I got my hamster he lived in a critter trail and with a 6 inch wheel and one chew two. After a while I saved up for a bin cage and a bigger wheel as well as a hideout. This summer I had a little business and made enough money so I could buy sprays, moss, coco fiber, sand, cork granules, a large chamber hide, and a niteangel sand bath. My parents were very surprised that I wanted to spend my money on that but they were also proud that I had taken my time to learn about this animal and care for it properly. Sometimes I feel bad for my hamster because he is now 2 years and 3 months old and sometimes I cry because I feel bad that I had not given him a better life. I just got my second hamster for my birthday and now I am going to make sure he has an amazing life. If it weren’t for you both my hamsters would be living in small cages and most likely only living six months. Thank you so so so much❤

I don’t like makeup, I’m awkward at parties, I don’t have many friends, and my best friends are the kittens I bottle feed, the chickens I care for, and the mice in my room. I don’t even own hamsters anymore but I am probably going to be subscribed to you til I die lol. I love how real and heartwarming your content is. New subbie here. I found your channel because my kindergarten class decided that they wanted to earn a class pet, and we decided on a hamster a few months ago. I knew nothing about taking care of them or having a class pet at all. If I could do it again, I would have discovered your channel before agreeing to this because I have learned quite a bit about hamsters and realize that they aren’t great class pets since they are nocturnal creatures ( for the most part).
Instead, I would have gotten the hamster for just myself because I have realized that they are sweet little creatures who can bond with you, and there are many facets to taking care of them properly (which I have grown to look forward to doing surpringly).
Anyway, I appreciate what you are doing, and wish you much happiness and continued success in the new year! Thank you!

thanks for doing research! i hate when people get hamsters (or any small creatures that don’t get proper care a lot) as class pets. because as you said, they’re nocturnal and all the noise during the day would surely stress them out. and they require a lot of money and space that people don’t expect!

wow, was this relatable for me. I was also a shy kid obsessed with animals, but when I got older I didnt go the route of content creation. I worked at a pet store where I was nicknamed "the guinea pig whisperer" and "a walking animal encyclopedia". people listened to what I had to say and appreciated my input, but sometimes it felt like I wasn't valued for anything but my animal knowledge. people didn't trust me as much with the non-animal jobs that come with retail, and I struggled to form friendships with my coworkers.
I've since left that job because I moved to study animal science. I hope to work in animal rescue, because I really do feel like thats my calling. but when it comes to my relationships with people, I have a lot of work to do and a lot to figure out.
I think some of us go on self improvement/self discovery journeys that last a lifetime. lately I've been trying to enjoy the process instead of just wishing I was perfect already.
here's to a good year, much love!

You're my favorite TH-camr because of your authenticity. Thank you for sharing. I can relate soooo much and have felt those same shifts in different contexts within my life. I was also pre-vet track, turned animal behavior specialist, and now work in a shelter. But I question my purpose constantly as this job can be draining and emotionally difficult. I find your videos to be a core part of what taught me how to do better for my hamster that I spontaneously got at 21, after a break up, and right before the pandemic. It quickly taught me how much I needed to learn still, even as a college senior about to graduate, and how much the most educated person may accidentally get a pet spontaneously even if that isn't the most responsible thing. I am learning day by day to find peace in myself. By doing my best based on what I know now is better than yesterday. And I build on that. CONSTANTLY. My learning never stops. I'm not sure what your purpose is, neither am I sure of my own. But I'm glad I found your channel through my life. Thanks for being so authentic and providing quality support for animal care and hamster husbandry. I wouldn't be where I'm at today without your videos, for my own hamsters and for those I help in the shelter get rehomed and ensure they go home into big lovely cages as they deserve! Again, thank you. You rock! 🎉 hope you have a fantastic new years❤️❤️❤️

I really relate to you with how you feel towards animals. You were a huge part of the research I put in for adopting my hamster a year ago. She had been found abandoned in a cage in a supermarket car park in the freezing cold and I took her in. She now lives an extremely happy, fulfilled life and everyone is always amazed by her cage when they see it. I was also able to give loads of supplies to another friend’s hamster when I upgraded my cage (the old cage was still great. It met the size requirements etc I just wanted to upgrade) and so a hamster that had been saved from abuse (my friend witnessed her being physically abused on the street and she went and saved her) also got to live a fulfilling life, which you helped with more than you know. You are beautiful inside and out, despite what any bitter, jealous people might tell you. And most importantly, you’ve made a real difference to so many animals out there. ❤️

I found your content quite randomly at the start of the pandemic when I longed to have my first pet since I moved out of my parents' house 3 years prior. Most flats here don't allow dogs or cats, so we had to find a smaller pet that wouldn't suffer from being inside all the time. I thought about a hamster, since I had quite a few as a kid, and your content prepared me to welcome our little bundle of joy, whom we adopted in May 2020. You made it so enjoyable to care for my hamster, to constantly seek out the best options for him and to improve his life even in the smallest way. As a kid, all the things you advocated were unknown to me or my parents, we blindly followed what greedy pet stores told us, and I regret to say that we provided next to nothing to these cute hamsters I had. But I wanted life for my new hamster to be different, and as good as possible. I like to believe that I managed, since he was rarely ever sick and was much more active than any other hamster I had, but he had the space and the material to spend his energy. My heart was torn apart when he died, and even almost 3 years later I struggle to speak about him without choking up. But that's how I know that my time with him was precious, and you indirectly made that happen, and I'll never thank you enough for it. Unfortunately owning hamsters is now forbidden in this country, so as long as I live here, having a hamster isn't possible, but I still hope that I'll be able to care for another in the future, even though I'll always miss my little Aragorn.

I think I’ve commented on the impact your channel has had on me before, but that was years ago and there’s more now. I had a few hamsters growing up, but I was quite young and not directly responsible for them. Lockdown hit while I was in 6th grade. I was a good student, but bored with few hobbies outside of electronics. I was home alone most of the time, and eventually noticed a change in our hamster Cookie, she was sleeping a lot more than usual. Without looking for anything, your old video for 10 hamster care mistakes you might be making (I won’t look for the exact title😂) came on my feed. This sent me into a rabbit hole on your channel and the birth of one of my now many passions. Your channel not only taught me how to care for my hamster, but also taught how to properly research any animal’s care, and how to approach the responsibility of caring for a living creature. Thankfully, my mom was supportive after seeing the well-researched information your channel provided. I eventually took over the care of Cookie, and after she passed I spent most of my lockdown days on your page, other websites, or working out the math to prepare to properly care for a hamster myself. I’ve since had 3, Willow, Maple, and Ophelia Juniper.
I wanted to share how much of a gift your channel had been to me directly. You introduced me to one of my passions and helped cultivate my love of research. Additionally, I built the 2’ x 4’ enclosure from your channel with my dad. This was not long after my parents’ divorce, and gave us a project to bond over. Now, it’s been almost 3 months since my dad has passed, and I never realized how much that project would mean to me. I would have never even attempted a project like that had it not been for your channel!
Funny enough, a little 6th grade girl from my school (its a small school so elementary through high school share the same building) has a passion for hamsters. I’ve talked with her and found out she’s using your channel for the very same thing I did when I was her age!
Yes you’ve helped countless hamsters (and other small animals), which is wonderful in itself, but your channel has had such a part of shaping my life and I want to thank you. Despite the questions you’re facing, I hope you don’t doubt for a second that everything you’ve worked toward and accomplished so far has been nothing short of incredible💛

He lives with me. My son pushed me to make sure I knew how to properly take care of him. I found you and thank goodness I did!!! I built Fluffy Tim a big enclosure and try to give him a great life. I’m 61 years old and I have learned so very much from you! Anyone who thinks you should automatically know everything is a very dumb person! We never stop learning! And strong smart people are not afraid to share what they learn and change and grow! You are a strong smart person! Do t listen to the trolls! I know it’s easier said than done but it is small minded people who comment on others looks or things of that nature. It’s easy to sit and criticize from behind a screen. A few weeks later, when I turned to TH-cam to see what I could do to help our sweet boy get more used to us, I found you🙌🙌🙌🙌 THAT DAY, we switched to a GIANT enclosure, THREW out the ball he ran in, and created a beautiful world for our sweet Tank... he passed almost 3 years ago, and it was heartbreaking.. We've had 2 more since, one we got from a pet store that had housed multiple ones together 😤 and our little chip was getting attacked.. we brought him straight home with us, AND had a LOT to say to that store!! He was only with us for a few months, but I hope we gave him the end of life he deserved. We've looked at an ethical breeder named Happy Hamstery, and I really love all she's done!! I want to get on her list, but we just adopted a SWEET syrian (our first) from an AMAZING organization in Minnesota called Tiny Wiskers Animal Rescue.. they save so many, so we wanted to help their cause. Sorry for the novel!! The reason I said all this was so you might know how IMPORTANT you are!!! You make life BETTER for teeny tiny hamsters... I wish people were kinder..I wish people had better things to do than troll people who have a giving soul. I know it's hard moving past that mental hurt.. My son has a genetic condition, and he's number 50 in the world. It makes him different from people and brings hurtful looks and comments.. as his mother, I want to shelter him and protect him from every mean stare Sadly, no matter how hard I try I can't. What i CAN do though, is give him joy! Hamsters give him Joy 😊 and your videos give him Joy 😊 so THANK YOU❤🐹

I find it hard to be perceived too, and am very passionate about animals. I can’t imagine the amount of strength you have cultivated through filtering through mean people on the internet since you were a child! I’m glad you stuck with TH-cam and I found someone I can relate to so much. This is my first time finding you and look forward to learning from and with you 🎉

My first hamster was in a critter trail cage. Watching you taught me so much and I very quickly got a bin cage and got bigger and bigger cages as I learned more. You inspire people to improve their hamster care and your videos help me relax and learn info on my favorite things. I don’t have any hamsters right now because I’m in college, but I’m still watching! This video is very relatable to those of us who relied on our pets as friends. Thank you for making this.

Hi Victoria I have been wanting to comment on your videos for so long now and finally I got a TH-cam account. You are literally my hamster hero and I love your videos! I never miss one. You have inspired me to create my own vlog. I don't quite have one on TH-cam yet but that is a goal of mine this year. Thank you so much for telling the world how hamsters really matter, so many people underestimate them and give them a bad rep of being rodents. I have my own hammy, Cream Puff, and he means the world to me. He is the sweetest hamster ever and loves human interaction. He actually is my first hamster also. Before I watched all your videos on proper hamster care, I had a small, boring, wired cage and now I have a 500+ sq. inch one. I just got a beautiful piece of grapevine wood for Christmas to put in it! Anyway, Cream Puff is unfortunately aging and elderly, since it has been already a whirlwind two years. He is still healthy and happy, and him aging doesn't take away from the joy he brings to me every day. I just want to give a thank you for all you have taught me for the past couple years and making Creamy thrive. I hope you can read this whole comment; I apologize that it is so long! I just really want to say that you show the world that animals, big or small, are special and need to be properly cared for and loved, and I support that 100 percent!! I just feel like I can't thank you enough for the work you do, it truly is inspiring and wonderful. You have had a huge influence in my life over the years in more ways than one. Happy New Year! Here's to 2025!!!

Dear Victoria, I can relate to your words 100%. I was always very shy too and have always loved animals more than people. Now as an adult, many things are easier to understand but the world and the people are not always…. I still like animals often more than people 😅. You are so important to the animal community. There are so many good things to learn from you. Even if it is often not easy for you, please don't stop. We need you! And the ignorant need you even more (they just may not all know it yet 😉). I have been following you for years, I come from Germany and love watching you and your animals. It is such a safe space 🤍 Thank you for everything, dear Victoria! Hugs

One bit of advice from someone with a few more years who is also an introverted animal-loving easily anxious human-> thank those people who are mean. Hear me out- you don’t need to respond to them but I find in my head that it sits better with me if I acknowledge the fact that they graced me with THEIR truth, which is that they are not worth my time. It’s actually those who seem nice but aren’t genuinely supporting you -or worse yet- manipulating you, who are the real harmful souls on this earth. Many hugs ❤

Victoria, thanks to you I have learned so much about hamster care and how to properly care for these beautiful small animals. The first hamster I got was a Syrian and she lived in a 20 gallon tank for all of 6 days before she died. I'm not sure what exactly was the cause of her death, but it made me realize that I needed to do more research to make sure that I didn't repeat the same mistakes again. That's how I came across your channel, and it has helped me so so much to give my new hamster a great home. She is a dwarf and lives in a 75 gallon tank with 10 inches of bedding and so much enrichment and I wouldn't have been able to provide that level of care. I love you and your videos so much! 🤍

I totally understand how you feel. I have really really bad social anxiety, and being around people makes me extremely self conscious. When I make videos, I still get nervous that someone is going to be mean to me or criticize me even though I don’t show my face. I just make videos anyway because it makes me happy to help others learn about small animals, even if it’s only a few people. I’ve always loved animals, and I’m even going to school to hopefully become a vet. Some people are just cruel, so don’t waste time trying to please them- just do what makes you happy! You make so many others happy and help them learn about hamsters and other animals! There is no way to truly be perfect, but everyone still loves you and your content anyway! Keep spreading kindness and keep doing what you love!💕

When I was a kid I was always bullied for being an animal lover especially of hamsters. Kids would make the cruelest “jokes” about harming animals especially hamsters just to upset me or make me sad and cry. Even now as an adult whenever I make a comment about being respectful to animals and nature, people still try to argue for the sake of getting a reaction out of me.
I always wanted a pet as a kid but I knew I wasn’t responsible enough to care for animals so I just admired them from afar. Now as an adult I got a hamster and I love her so much. And your channel was recommended by other hamster loving friends and I appreciate that you never “scold” for lack of a better word. And I’m sorry that same curtesy isn’t extended to you. ❤ all this to say I’m glad you’re still making videos despite all the negative stuff but we your fans appreciate you

Victoria, this video brought literal tears to my eyes. I’m in school to be a veterinary technician, and animals have been my life for as long as I can remember. I work at a hospital with some of the smartest doctors I’ve ever met (and to be honest probably the smartest ones around since they’re specialists), and they even say “I don’t know” all the time. Life doesn’t always make sense and everyone is learning all of the time. I just recently got my very first bunny (a bit unexpectedly but that’s a long story), and your content has been so helpful for my bunny and my hamsters to ensure I give them the best I can.
