I am writing this while I am enjoying the live premiere of the film that I would undoubtedly pay to see in a theater or on a digital platform like Netflix. I am speechless. This is another level. I can't imagine what you could accomplish if Eagle Dynamics upgraded the filming system to a more user-friendly one. Thank you all for your work, guys. You have once again raised the bar for DCS movies. Take care and have safe flights.
I met Gabreski at the ‘95 Oshkosh Airshow. As a recent Notre Dame grad who’d just solo’d a couple weeks before, I was excited to meet some of these WW2 pilots, but didn’t really know who all of them were. Gabreski noticed my ND ring right away & we struck up a conversation. At that time, I didn’t know he was the leading ace in the ETO or that he’d attended ND as well. I also didn’t know that his wife had died in an auto accident 2 years before when they were driving home from Oshkosh. He was just another humble pilot sitting at a table next to Gen. Charles W. Sweeney signing autographs and shaking hands with clueless youngsters like myself. To think, I shook hands & chatted with our leading European ace and a couple minutes later with the Cmdr of the Nagasaki mission, the man who ended WW2. I now have 1/72 scale Corgi models of Gabby’s Spitfire and the P-47 he flew in your video, and a 1/144 model of Sweeney’s B-29 “Bock’s Car.” I only wish they could have autographed them for me. But it was enough that Gabby and I shared 4 years on the same wonderful campus and those few precious minutes at Oshkosh 95. RIP GABBY. Wonderful video - wish you’d have shown him in his beautiful Mk IXc Spitfire, 315 Polish Squadron. Cheers from Texas!
These chet chates were stupid. All things you talked in mid air as radio chat are spoken on pre flight meeting in the base..debrifing ... in combat flight there is not imię and place for souch thing ...enemy listen
I met Gabby at the little museum at love field by chance. What a great man and fantastic fighter pilot. My dad was a pearl harbor survivor and I met Welch as well at a association meeting in Hawaii. He was flying a P-40 during the attack - this is Hollywood quality.
I’ve just watched it for the first time, fortunately on the big screen with my laser projector. Awesome!! In the 80s I knew personally Arcady Boitsov, a Soviet fighter pilot who had six victories in Korea. Thank you and all the participants for the movie, fantastic job.
Outstanding work guys! I'm adding this to the 2022 Annual AWG DCS Award Nominees...Good luck Team HornetPRO! Just realized you missed the cutoff for 2021 which is now being tallied...I'll check your video list for a period/historic production that fits our criteria for consideration...if you guys are okay with being nominated.
Excellent effort!! The only thing that struck me as inaccurate was that Frances Gabreski actually had a mild mannered voice something like Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) without the southern drawl. That was how he sounded in the only interview documentary I've seen of him in person on TH-cam. He is in his later years in that film covering his entire career. It's funny though, when you look at his portrait with the flying garb on you would expect a voice like Ernest Borgnine to growl forth.
Yes, you're right; he sure did. Very mild, higher pitched voice, yet nasally. And that's what we focused on. We also didn't want to be too hung up on how he sounded, but more so what he said. Changing the tone according to the mood and feeling proved to be a challenge in keeping with the pitch, so improvising gave us the best result. So glad you enjoyed it despite this. Keep in mind, we're all just fans paying tribute to this icon. No doubt a professional crew would have done it much more.
@@RibshackTV No probs. I must say that that scene with the 109 pulling up along side Gabby in the P-47 really hit home, you nailed that situation perfectly. You made the pilot in the 109 look cold like the eye of a great white shark as it closes in. So many scenes in this film couldn't be depicted in any other way than how you did it. Oh and professional crews almost never get the movements, technicality, and sound right with these films, but you have created a film that looks like it was produced by pilots/aeroengineers. Particularly the short segment when the 109 climbs vertically passing the viewer and the accuracy of the DB-605 screaming past gave me goosebumps. I didn't even expect you to have recorded the DB-605 sounds for the 109. Also I be darned if I know how you got that sound for the P-47 as it went into a spin. That is a sound that doesn't exist, and yet you convinced me that the prop on that R-2800 was tumbling from the sky with that strange muffled prop effect. Don't get me wrong your film was enthrawling with its various flight depictions.
This is an absolute masterpiece, well done guys I cannot imagine the amount of headaches you guys got just from capturing those beautiful shots especially considering the absolute garbage tool that you had to work with. I cannot wait for the day ED decides to finally give us a decent replay and photo feature. if you guys can make this with the current state of DCS I don't even dare to imagine what you could do with proper tools. Well done keep going guys congratulations to everyone involved :)
Wonderful vision and production! I bought DCS because of the Sabres and Migs and the memories of Korean air war movies. It is a real pity there is still no Korea map after all these years.
that was absolutely an amazing production and performance. the whole film was made beautifully. my grandfather was the Army Air Corp in WWII and when he passed away a few years back, he was the only remaining US glider pilot still living. this film reminded me of him, and the lessons that he taught me. and when I served in the army myself, and throughout my life, those stories he told me, helped guide me to become who i am today and taught me the lessons and stories he gave me become cherished memories of him. thank you for reminding me of one of the most important people in my life. thank you for the time and effort you put into this production. thank you for remembering and showing that veterans like myself,, veterans like my grandfather, like gabby, are not forgotten, and the sacrifices made by all veterans, aren't ignored. thank you. I wish you peace and success in all that you do in life. I hope that you stay safe and stay blessed and thank you again

Mate... I'm a bit late to the party on this one. But this was certainly something else. The amount of time, effort and quality you, and those who helped you, put into this is beyond amazing. The only other DCS video that had me this engaged was the recent 'Eli 21' by Adrian Caparzo. This one might go for a bit longer than most people are used to but it certainly deserves more than the 1200-odd likes and 33k views, it's one of the most quality "DCS movies" I've had the pleasure of watching - and this was was based on true events and people. Well done, and I hope you intend to maintain your "DCS cinema" because if they're reaching this level of quality, I cannot wait to see what else you can do and what other stories you can tell.
Well done! A stupendous effort! It was a tough watch seeing those Luftwaffe fighters attacking those B-17s from the front knowing that's what happened in the skies over occupied Europe. Getting hit by 20mm and 30mm cannons is horrible, and unbelievably some bombers made it back sadly with mangled crewmen. Rest in peace to the fallen. Rest in peace 'Gabby' Gabreski, USAAF USAF Ret.🦅🦅
The dialogue felt campy at times as did some sections like Gabby's capture, but the cinematography and music edits were top notch. The amount of effort and work on the account of you and so many others is on full display. Fantastic work Hornet Productions! My highest compliments to you and those that helped make this come true.
Very dramatic! It's amazing what you've done with movie making using DCS. I especially appreciate the effort put into getting the aircraft skins to look right.
