  • If you are still skeptical of battery powered string trimmers, but still would like to find a powerful string trimmer that's easy to start and does not require mixing oil with your gas, then take a look at the Husqvarna 324L string trimmer. This trimmer is powered by a Honda 4 cycle engine that is easy to start, has lots of torque, and since it is a 4 cycle engine it uses regular un mixed fuel straight from the gas pump! In this video we show you our Husqvarna 224L string trimmer which is the previous version of what is now the 324L string trimmer in the current Husqvarna line up. The Honda engines used on these trimmers have a separate crankcase that holds 10w-40 engine oil for the engines lubrication. The crankcase oil and the fuel are never mixed together. These trimmers run smooth and provide plenty of torque all through the RPM range making them capable of cutting down some pretty thick stuff in short time with minimal effort.

Looking at these for our municipal fleet. Thinking this would be a good choice and would eliminate one more 2 cycle engine. About 99% of all the problems we have with 2 cycle equipment is fuel related. A string trimmer will come in not running or hard to start and the first thing I do is dump the fuel out and replace it with fuel that I know is good. 99% of the time, it takes off and runs like new. Now, they'll just run them out of oil.

Great trimmer. I've used these commercially for 3 years with zero issues. Just bought a 3rd one to add to the fleet. Starts easy and plenty of power. Can't go wrong for the price.
Pro tip. An echo speed feed bump head and echo black .095 line will make this trimmer a beast!

Ain't got a husky ,but I have a Makita mm4 / 4 stroke and it's an absolute monster , love the sound of it , never going back to choking on 2 stroke fumes lol , all my equipment is 4 stroke blower ext , these huskys look good too

2 strokes don't have to be run wide open either. That is a total misconception.. Obviously the faster you run something the faster in will be no good. All that is needed is enough power to make the cut. I prefer 4 strokes myself also!

You know what’s nice about 2 stroke trimmers? Lighter, no oil changes, no valve adjustments.

Pro's and cons of each one. Fuel for a 4 stroke is less expensive because you don't have to add oil to it. A little more weight, but more torque. Good input though and definitely good reasons that you mentioned to go with a 2 cycle trimmer.

4 stroke way easier to start, no oil with gas each time you fuel, way more torque at much lower speed for much quieter running especially on residential lots. I have a 13 or 14 year old Honda UMK431 still starts first pull 99% of the time and rarely needs an oil change which takes seconds. Less smell. Awesome string trimmers.

The way I see it with 2 stroke gas engines is that they should be made to operate more like a 2 stroke Diesel. What I mean is that they should have an oil pan so you'd have to do oil changes every so often but also no transfer port between the crankcase and combustion chamber. Just the intake and exhaust ports. At the same time, it would be fuel injected and have a blower attached to the intake port that blows in nothing but air and pushes the exhaust out through the exhaust port. This would increase its horsepower and torque due to increased airflow and all the gas being burned. This way the emissions are much lower. It still would consume more fuel and make more noise than a 4 stroke but no need to mix the oil in the fuel and no gas is wasted through the exhaust port. The advantage is it still would have no valves or camshaft and would thus still weigh less than a 4 stroke. I didn't know until today there are 4 stroke weed whackers on the market. You learn something every day. I know there are fuel injected 2 strokes on the market. Took them long enough to start making them that way. You also don't have to mix the gas and oil on them. The oil is added to a separate reservoir and is mixed with gas by the engine instead. There's a video where they reviewed 2 stroke snowmobiles that are fuel-injected and one of the guys mentioned he only had to add oil once during the whole season. He noted it also doesn't smell as bad and gets more power and torque since all the gas is burned rather than some being wasted through the exhaust port. Not sure if they put fuel injected 2 strokes on weed whackers, chain saws or ice augers. Or even lawnmowers, rototillers and snowblowers but at least fuel injected is cleaner and less oil to buy.

and this 4 stroke engine from Honda that Husky use have a lot more torque in it compare to equivalent 2 stroke engine . so pros and cons are there.

It must be great to not have are carburetor to adjust since going with a 4 cycle trimmer right?

The nice part is being able to use regular old non mixed gas. Cuts the operating costs down. Also the exhaust fumes aren't nearly as noticeable as with a 2 cycle trimmer.

Yes, but then you have oil change and valves to adjust. With oil you can’t turn it sideways

@@EthanAdey Wrong, with regard to "turning it sideways"...it can be operated (and stored) in any position.

Hey nice video and demo of cutting high weeds, vines and bramble. In a rural area with natural large wild areas this tool is excellent to control growth around home site. Thanks for the video demonstration. Good job.

What about valve adjustment on this unit? The Stihl 4 stroke unit requires a valve adjustment at least once a season something you dont have to worry about on a 2 stroke engine and if you dont know how to do this procedure then there is more money out the door for maintenance

kinda sound like a lawn mower engine but still the best thing to have because its easy to start up on cold starts and requires no wide open throttle

The good thing with a 4 stroke trimmer is that 1: starts easy 2: fuel consumption is Way better 3: you don't have to worry for overheating 4: you don't have to mix oil and petrol...

I'm looking into one of these. I hate mixing gas because I don't use the trimmer a lot so the gas usually goes bad. I bought a Milwaukie battery powered trimmer and the 6 ah battery only last's about 10 minutes that good if you like taking breaks and another reason is I have had lousy luck with the batteries.

I bought a new Troybuilt string trimmer, and the vibration was the worse I’ve ever felt. They wouldn’t do anything about it through warranty. It had so many issues I lost my temper and it fell several times up against a tree. I just bought this one. Haven’t started it up yet, we will see.

It's tough to get much as far as warranty coverage from MTD on handheld products.

4 stroke trimmers are underpowered and overated.
You hear it struggling throught that not so thick grass.
No thanx, 2 stroke all the way

I have used many 2 stroke trimmers. And NONE of them are as powerful as the 324l 4 stroke I use now. 2 strokes rev higher, 4 strokes have more torque. 4 stroke>2 stroke all day long.

I literally out of furie smashed 2 stroke trimmer against the ground because it just pain in the ass to repair. Thay just fail when you really need it...Now I have 4 stroke which is little weaker but it's reliable! It's almost 5 years old and all I need to do is to change oil once or twice a year
