Numarine Yachts understood long ago that the trend for explorer yachts is here to stay. They adapted their model range accordingly, and now have an amazing array of explorers in varying sizes. Northrop & Johnson enjoy an exclusive relationship with Numarine, so I was invited to visit the shipyard and follow the construction of their brand new 30XP, and also their well established 37XP.

Looking forward to the construction process, I love this part, probably more than looking at the finished product. By seeing the process, you know more about the quality than just looking at the end result.

As a last year Naval Architect student, hearing the reasoning behind material and design decisions is pure educational gold. Absolutely love this type of content!

Great video & an equally great yacht! Can't wait to see the finished article

Have seen a video of the finished 30xp model. No doubt a unique design. However 2 negatives. The helm is way to low for safe navigation. The sightline is just not OK. Secondly, the cealing hight seam a few inches to low on the salon and cabin levels

A view from the UK. I really do want to challenge his assertion that generating electricity to drive electric motors is more efficient than straight diesel engines. (2.00mins in). To give you some simple facts; A volume of diesel/petrol has a caloric value that cannot be 'increased', it is what it is. Scientists have tried for years to increase the energy, or calorific value we get from 1 litre of fuel. We convert that energy source - fuel - via an internal combustion engine which converts that energy source via an oscillating, up and down, movement into a rotary movement to drive a propeller. If we use an internal combustion engine to generate electricity THEN drive an electric motor to create that rotary movement to drive a propeller we will waste energy from that 1 litre of fuel in doing so. In other words putting an electric motor into the drive chain uses more energy not less. Therefore you are wasting unnecessary energy from that 1 litre of fuel. Which bloke gave him the information that 'Diesel Generators' are more efficient than Diesel engines must be a great salesman. THEY STILL USE DIESEL ENGINES for gawds sake!
If by thinking that turning off generators to go slower is saving energy, ask yourself why a conventionally driven boat can double its range by reducing to the same speeds. It's how you use that 1 litre of fuel.
The calorific value of any fuel is fixed and it's up to you how you use it. Don't be fooled by the advertising 'save the planet' video you are seeing here. This is just another narcissistic David Seal self promotion piece.

Hi David. So happy you doing another series. Steel and GRP, most unusual although its a good idea. Looking forward to the next episode of these incredible yachts. Thanks 😊

Great episode! Hearing about these yacht building processes from the boat yards key employees makes it very insightful, informative and interesting. I personally believe that the latest technologies such as diesel - electric hybrid systems should be the future of motor yachting because of the efficiencies and comfort they provide and it's very encouraging to see that Numarine are embracing such innovations much faster than many other well established yacht builders. Their XP series explorer yachts provide everything you would want from a displacement yacht and then some more. Also very proud that they're from my homeland :)

Oh what e relief to not be rich and have to pretend that something so woefully ugly as this monstrous pile of bad taste is a “must have” embellishments to one’s sorry existence. 😎.

Thanks David and to the team. Very interesting with the steel/composite construction method, gives a certain amount of production value to the costing.

David, that was superb. It was great to hear the people involved just talk and show their passion. I love the Numarine product and that video shows why they have become one of the greatest builders of Explorer Yachts in such a short space of time.

    Dear David
You said Explorer yachts are the new Trent in the yacht industry. Well, Explorer yachts are like SUVs in the automotive industry. Many want them, but they don't really need them. 90% of SUVs never go off-road. They could get dirty! Same with the Exploreryachts. Never a discovery trip, only port to port. No more than 100 nm. Because you need a quiet place again in the evening. The only advantage is more space. But they consume more energy and are more difficult to manoeuvre. They should stick to the limousine.
But that doesn't detract from the yachtbuilders' skills. They get better and more innovative every year.

I love Numarine so don't take this the wrong way, but he's talking about fold down beach club and sides and all this that is unheard of in a 30M, which I guess is true, but has he not heard of Sanlorenzo and Baglietto? They are bigger than 30M slightly but have those features. Unless I'm misremembering again.
