i’m just wondering if there’s any power valves in these 50sx’s… Rebuilt mine (25PSI on last top end) And it’s bogging not wanting to idle and not hitting power band. VforceReeds3 installed. everything is brand new other then the coil pack.
Hi James, great video! Thankyou! I purchased 5 main jets larger than the stock 95 and 5 smaller jets. My problem is the larger jets don't fit. They don't fit through the wee saucer thing and they don't screw in either. All genuine dellorto parts for the correct year (2021). They are literally 0.0025mm too big to go through the hole in the saucer. I know a squeeze with pliers would force the jet through but I really don't want to do that. Have you come across this before? Thanks in advance
Hi Dave. Have not had this problem, but have not dealt with a main jet larger than 95. Have a look at the KTM50 Carb blueprints for you bike, www.boltonmotorcycles.com/partFinder/fiche/ktm/2021/50-sx-eu/carburetor#next Here you can see the largest main jet KTM is supplying is a 95. I'm sure dellorto supplies larger but they may not be made for this 19mm carb. What reason are you looking at running above a 95? I have herd of people running larger, but not without other modifications to needle etc
Do you have issues with spooge coming out of the exhaust. I have the jetting pretty dialed and I have experimented with different oils and mixture ratios. the bike runs nice and crisp, plug looks good, but I still get a little spooge dripping down the silencer after a day of riding.
Hey Bobby sorry I missed this one. 99% of these bikes will still have some splooge leaking from the pipe. If your happy with how its running I would not stress over it
Hi mate, IlWe’ve got a 21 tc 50 and it keeps fouling every 2 hours. My young fella doesn’t ride it hard and rev it how it should be. What’s your advice? People are saying a 7 plug instead of 8. Should I look at smaller jets and the needle clip adjustment?
Hey Karl that is what I am running on my 2019 50SX. Runs well, maybe a little rich, but I do prefer to be on the rich side. Fuel screw 1.5 turns out (stock is 3 turns out)
So taken your advice and chased down a 90 n 48, the 90 being much easier to source than the 48. 90 should arrive tomorrow and 48 sometime next week. Will let you know how it goes, also have the Cr7hsa plug to try. Was the lads 1st time on the 50sx from the mini yesterday and got 2hrs from the plug before i had to bin it.
What size Jets should I run on my son's 05 ktm Pro 50cc ,currently Tomar Clutch, V force 3 reed,Slip on fmf turbine core 2 slip on,any help would be appreciated Sea level 102' from sea Level, I live in Ocala Florida very humid.
Hi I am having issue where my kids ktm 65 revs out after cranking. Ive cleaned carb jets thoroughly made sure intak boots where clamped tight even look at throttle cable but still can’t correct problem. Any suggestions please
Hey there, the needle sits inside the main jet and slowly pulls up as the throttle is opened allowing mixture to flow. A higher clip position means a leaner mixture while a lower clip position gives a richer mix
Would you need tomadjust the air screw and fuel mixture screw is you adjust the main jets ?? As I'm having the same issue with my sons sx 50 it's bogging out on full speed and he's loosing alot of ground to other bikes. Iv just bought the same jets you are using to see if this helps. Good videos by the way 👍👍
Hi Martin thanks for the comment. These bikes have 2 screws that can be adjusted, idle speed which can be turned with fingers and fuel mixture which needs to be adjusted with a flat screwdriver and has a stock setting at 3 turns out. The fuel screw shouldn't effect wide open throttle. Try the 90 main with 48 pilot and air screw and 1.5 turns out, this should also help alot with idle on the grid
@@jameswharton3143 Hi James thanks for the reply .. I think I need to adjust the float or atleast make sure it's sitting correctly need to figure that out can't be to hard. But u should have the new jets in a few days at the moment I'm running a 95 main jet and 60 pilot jet.
@@jameswharton3143 idling is fine the only issue I have is top speed im wondering if the clutch is holding him back as he's on 6 turns on the clutch adjustment would that hold him.back on tip end ..? Thanks
HI, I just purchased a KTM 50 SX 2012, the used bike runs well when warmed up, the previous owner warmed it up well before running, when we started it and began riding with it cold it would have a flat spot in the acceleration until warm. Is this normal? The bike rans perfect after warming up.
Hi James, videos are great! Just done the clutch adjustment on my daughters. Bike is struggling to idle when she’s not on the throttle, is there anyway you could help with the setting up of carb screws? Thanks
Hey Arran. Try adjusting the fuel screw on the carb. The manual calls for 3 turns out but I have had alot more success with it 1 1/2 turns out. See how that goes
James, I have a 2021Husqvarna TC 50 with all stock jetting. The problem I am coming across is that when it sits at the gate after it is warmed up it will load up sitting there waiting for a gate drop unless you constantly clear it out until right before the gate drops. Can you point me in the direction of what you would change in the carb?? Thanks
Hi James, the screw on the motor side on the carb is the fuel mixture screw. I have that set at 1 and 1/3 turns out. I have found this helps avoid the bike "loading up" at idle. Set you screw to 3 turns out as per factory and have a play to find your sweet spot
Hola,mi 50 ktm sx 2013,la tengo que usar con el ahogador arriba para que funcione mejor, que me recomienda para que funcione sin el,ya que si lo quito pareciera le falte gas
Hi. Great video. Thank you. I'm having a lot of trouble starting my sons sx50, Im pretty sure it's down to carb set up. It seems to flood easily. What jets should I change to to aid starting? Thanks
Sam alot of guys sometimes have an issue with starting them cold and find tipping the bike up on the front wheel vertically for about 5 to 10 seconds before kicking it over helps alot. If in doubt. Turn fuel off Lie bike on its side, until fuel stops flowing from tubes. Pick bike up and turn fuel back on. Lift bike onto front wheel for 5 to 10 seconds. Kick bike over with choke on. For the record I'm running 48 pilot jet which controls bike at idle.
Mate love all of your vids! Great explanation of the whole thing was just wondering what you idle mixture screw is set to? If you could do I vid explaining all about that and your experience with tuning these little rockets 🚀 cheers David
Hello anyone with machanic advice for me. I have a Ktm 50 just put new piston in and had it running sound but the next day theres drag on the back wheel and when I push it fast it starts up with out kickstarting. Im shocked as I know this can happen with geared bikes. Any help and reply welcome. Thanks
Hey Adrian I'll look into that. What size pilot are you running? Myself I am running a 48 with the air screw (actually a fuel screw as on LHS of carb) at 1.5 turns out (as opposed to 3 turns out as per manual)
It's worth giving it a test. Make sure your carb is clean, even remove jets and blow them out with some compressed air. How long since you did a top end? These bikes don't idle great. They will always eventually fuel up if you leave them idling for an extended time, especially if the back wheel is stopped on the ground due to the auto clutch bringing down the motor
Hi Alyson, I think you have an issue with it fouling at low revs? If you have already lowered your pilot jet I suggest you wind back the air screw. I have mine set on about 1 1/2 turns out
Hey there. The jets control the amount of fuel mixture that flows into the engine. The pilot jet does the first 1/8th throttle and the main jet takes over and does the rest. The bigger the hole (and number) the more fuel flows. The KTM50s are usually jetted a bit rich (too much fuel) so most people drop a size or two
Wish I’d found your videos 12 months, good information for a novice. Thanks

Manual calls for 3 turns out, I have mine set to roughly that
What does that disc on the jet do?
