3:09 YES i feel the exact same way about notes that are "off" but still sound so badass. That's one of the reasons why i love Korn, what they do with their guitars and kind of similar things others in nu metal also do. Come on, playing like everyone else is boring! Coming up with something of your own, breaking rules and being unique is what keeps music evolving and what the heart of rock n roll is all about!

I remember there being tales of Dez fighting with rednecks in bars with Lajon from Sevendust back in the day but I'm still fairly convinced Snot would've battered Coal Chamber pretty easily if that beef had gone off. Great interview. I always looked at nu-metal as much as a period in time as an exact sound or style. It was the next big shift after hair bands turned to grunge. Grunge turned to nu-metal and it was out with Cobain style Converse sneakers & cardigans & in with big pants, backwards caps, chunky skate sneakers & wallet chains. It made a huge cultural impact as it embraced skating, hip-hop & all the Jackass/CKY style stuff & the MTV boom that started with Alternative Nation, Headbangers Ball, Three In One etc with 90s rap & grunge. Deadsy, Orgy, Human Waste Project, KoRn, Deftones, Snot, Mind Heavy Mustard, Sevendust, Tura Satana/Manhole, Jack Off Jill, Spineshank, Drown, (hed)pe, Alien Ant Farm, 40 Below Summer, Professional Murder Music, Otep, Soulfly, Kittie, Cold, Adema, Staind, Limp Bizkit & loads more all get called nu-metal but sound very different. Bands like Will Haven came up in that scene & got established touring Europe predominantly with nu-metal bands even though they were from the hardcore scene. Same with Candiria & Clutch & a few more - they came over here with UK bands like Raging Speedhorn, Skindred, One Minute Silence, Pulkas, etc who all came out of the nu-metal era in a way too. I was pretty much 17-23 for the nu-metal years & always liken it culturally to the closest we'll ever get to the swinging 60s since. Baggy pants, eyebrow rings, tongue piercings, casual sex off Faceparty & fit goth chicks or skater chick Gwen Stefani lookalikes in all the rock clubs. Bam Margera, Steve-O, Johnny Knoxville & Dirty Sanchez. Dial-up net & drop D guitars. Fanzines turning into webzines. The PRP. iMusic chat rooms. AOL chat rooms. Early MSN. A golden age.

You need to get Tom maxwell from Nothingface/hellyeah... it sucks that Mike is burned out he wasn't the best guitar player.. he would get put to shame by all the modern guitar players though
