This video is older than 3 years old. The guy is an absolute genius. No one knows these motors better than him. Probably. But there's been new technology recently to help with this exact situation. Such as gas ported pistons. You heard me right tiny pen holes on the edge of the pistons at angles. That helped the rings work
The guy is absolute wizard🤭 If there was a therm "Scientifically build S85" to make it last longer than 50k miles (even that is a veteran), this would be it.. And one more word missing here!?!? EXPANSIVE😉

I had my S85 block bored and honed for my 5.8L stroker motor build at Carbahn, Steve’s new company, would have not done it any other way…engine is a beast
What's the power bump, from 507hp? does it still rev as high as stock? as a Merc fanboy, the S85 is one of my all-time favorite motors, congrats on your build!
Do these engines have the same rod bearings/ rod bearing problem as the stock engine? I’m looking at buying a 80,000km m6 tuned by dinan but don’t know if it’s more of a risk then a stock m6
Hey MR; yes, we are still around !-{) Not that Fking old yet!... Mr. Steve Dinan is running his business at the same facility in Morgan Hill, CA where we built these monster V10s back in the day. I just finished a 10 year stint as an engine inspector / trackside engineer with INDYCAR where I tried to keep Honda Performance Development & GM/Chevy/Ilmor Engineering in check, making sure they play nicely inside the sandbox (IMS Oval) and the other 17 races during the season.
The video was shot back in late 2007 ~ early 2008 when Steve and I were just starting the build program to the Stroker V10. It was a great project to work on, he had this idea & vision and pretty much let me run with it. Thanks for posting again GTBoard!
Every garage I know only uses 10w60. I always carry a litre of the stuff. If the rod bearings are recent then they should be the new design and you are golden. Old or new bearings no difference to the oil you should be using. The only place I have come across folks thinking using anything other than 10w60 is a good idea is on TH-cam.

Boy,has BMW screwed the customer by using this process on the block. With the chronic issues this engine has,any problem in the bore means you have to buy a new block. Another reason I will never buy another BMW.
I learned more in those 2 minutes than i willingly wanted to learn in school 🤣

Yep.😁😇

I think we'd all die.
Dude this guy is a real worth engineer where you can buy parts with no doubt jeezuz..
These guys build brilliant cars. The M6 they built years ago is beautiful.
Thanks!
Thank you!

How much longer does it last??! I’m thinking about buying one at 81000 kilometres

I hope they still sell them when I can afford to buy it
Very informative!
Is it possible to make a custom crankshaft for the S85 so that it has even firing order like the Gallardo?
Theese guy never grew to the size they deserve!
Dinan where so knowledgable and enthusiastic.
Do they still sell/rebuild motors ?
Yes in San Jose California. His new company is called carbahn
More 🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍😍 S85 ///M legend
Holy moly v10

So do the dinan v10s last longer then the stock engine?
Could very well be!

I know it's an age old argument, but...10w60 or 5w50 oil, in a stock V10 with recent rod bearings...anyone?

0-50
Always Castrol 10W 60 😎🇩🇪
10w-60 unless you want VANOS codes
Exactly...The main reason for the 10w60, from what BMW M division told me has to do with the Vanos system, but you can't tell back yard mechanics that
Lovely video! Now upload a stroker V10 that we never seen before! “Title it DINAN STROKER GOING BESERK IN SWITZERLAND”
