    Building A Model Steam Plant Using Two Engines - In this episode I show how I modified one of the the Displacement Lubricator/Steam Tap assemblies so the Steam Valve was on the other side. I also show in detail the manufacture of the entire Steam Turret and Whistle fittings...... I just about lost some supper through my nose when you made the "docks" comment. Gads, man, that needs a Class One Beverage Alert if ever a comment did. Beauty work on the stanchion. Looks sweet.

    That's a good trick, marking a circumference by chucking the part in the lathe and holding a sharpie up to it. This kind of stuff is why I watch these videos.

    'Tis difficult to determine if your motivation is fuelled by zest or contempt. Either works well and is no less enjoyable, as we watch such marvelous creations. Thank you for such efforts. Just wait until you 'discover' electroplating / electropolishing on a day spiriously influenced by the spontaneous dropping of heavy things (the adjectives are just flying today.)

    It’s looking absolutely fantastic already! My wife has just watched this with me and is very impressed with how you have kept the valves and whistle at the front and the reasons for this; as you know my Junior Engineer is very keen to be hands on with our models and your health and safety has met with her approval!

    I can't wait to see this completed, it's looking like you will surpass your already high technical abilities. But then again, the trip is more valuable than the destination. Kudos Mr. Appleton!

    Never seen a spiral cut tap like that. went and googled it, that's actually pretty cool. Learn something new everyday!

    Another tip for beginners, do not face off the end of stock which has the identification of size on it and add the material type, a couple of months down the road you may not remember its type.

    Your videos are very interesting Keith, I enjoy the lathe work and practicle explanations, makes any engineering job seem easy. I'm not a model builder but do build and repair things, I will have to chase you up for advice when I get my next shed set up. Please keep up the very enjoyable videos !

    Chocolate teapots are useful in so far as you can get at least one (extremely nice) round of tea from a well-made chocolate teapot. Chocolate fireguards are a lot less useful!

    Seems fitting with the Cyclops engine and all.

    I once tried to sell my body but no one would buy it unless I threw in a free toaster oven or a socket set. I did it for a while but it just wasn't as profitable as I'd hoped.

    Loved the lathing, as usual. Just wish it were in real time. - I think anyone watching these vids likes to see the mechanical operations from drilling, lathing, tapping etc... and are NOT lulled into a coma by any means. - Painting may be the only exception. ;-) You can speed that up, but don't skip it. It's still nice to see such work. Thanks again for all these vids!

    • @keithappleton
      @keithappleton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to speed up the process otherwise it is painfully slow and the videos would be far too long ....

    • @johnfriedmann2413
      @johnfriedmann2413 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I was just saying it is not painfully slow for folks like me who enjoy the vids. I think your perspective is just different. Yur'r doing all the work, so it seems slow and tedious to you. But as a viewer, it is a source of fascination seeing all the processes in action. No biggie though. And not criticizing, of course. ---- I'm sure you have seen a "potter" working clay on a wheel... it is the same kind of thing. Watching the hands transform a lump of clay into a graceful bowl or bottle... I think it's appreciated more in real time. Akin to your lathing... just seeing the gradual movements of a machine artfully craft a lump of metal into "form"... just mesmerizing. :-)

    Chocolate teapots are only slightly more useless than inflatable dartboards.

    Hi Keith, I have been watching your videos for a little over a month now, and I wanted to ask just one question. How big of a boiler would you need to get 300 psi of pressure. Basically I was wanting to know physical size and then thickness of the shell. If I ever get a lathe I'm going to make an N&W hooter whistle, and I wanted the ability to have a boiler with 300 psi superheated steam to operate it. I was just curious if it was possible to make one that wasn't the size of those on the locomotives themselves. Thanks, Chris.

    • @keithappleton
      @keithappleton  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't really answer that as boilers are not my speciality - however maybe another view knows the answer to your question . ..
