    🐴About the Breed:
In the late 1600's and early 1700's three stallions were brought to England: The Byerly Turk, the Darley Arabian and the Godolphin Arabian. These three stallions became the foundation for a breed that would become one of the fastest in the world. In the United States the Jockey Club manages registration and pedigrees.

I really love their unique personalities! The two thoroughbreds that I know at my barn have very big personalities and are just so much fun :D

I love their heart and athleticism. That's why so many breeds across the world have added Thoroughbreds to improve their stock.

There was an old Thoroughbred at a farm I used to go to to take care of my old friend's Quarter Horse. I stopped by infront of his stall just to look at him and he rested his entire chin on my shoulder and just wanted a hug. 🥰🥰🥰 He was such a big sweetheart! I want to adopt one soon.

A word of advice, you’ll be wanting a thoroughbred from the sporting lines for that type of behavior. From the racing lines you’re more likely to find a horse with some attitude. Even if they’re never raced you’ll find that’s true in the racing lines whereas the sporting lines tend to be big sweethearts 😁👍🏼

It is amazing how the breed came about

  • @wsword223

No one talks about how well Thoroughbreds are in western riding as well. Thoroughbreds also can come in pintos(but they would have to be registered as a paint), appaloosas(once again registered as an Appaloosa). I’ve seen a few buckskin thoroughbreds around before. The cowhands and cowboys of early America prized Thoroughbreds for their speed when it came to herding cattle. They could ride all day because they have good stamina. There is also proof that Thoroughbreds where also bred from Turkoman horses meaning that Thoroughbreds are related to the Akhal-Teke. They are both built the same and are fast and have amazing stamina.

Thoroughbreds can do anything, and are consistently proven to be good at ranch work. They don't have to be registered as paints if they are parti-coloured, some of them have been raced as
Tbreds. Appaloosa spotted Tbreds I have never seen, but they'd still be registered as Tbreds.
I have been told by a farrier out here in Alberta that Anglo-Arabs were found all over the place, prized for their endurance the way that Arabs are. Thoroughbreds would have been used for racing. When marketers started promoting Quarterhorses, the Anglo Arabs started to disappear. I have one, and he's a tough nut
Thoroughbreds are directly descended from the Godolphin Arabian, The Byerley Turk, and the Darley Arabian. I believe the Byerley was a war horse. There's no mention of the Akhal Teke. They are similar in build, along with any light, hotblooded horses.
Thoroughbreds don't have the endurance that Arabian horses have - they are undisputedly the best you can get for endurance riding, distance riding. Hard hooves and dense bones, and lungs/nostrils made for distance. Anything crossed with an Arab can also be a distance horse.

The picture of the Goodophin Arabian (in this show) was not done during the horses lifetime, and is by George Stubbs. The painting is now considered inaccurate

No kidding.....the small head & the neck are out of proportion w/ the substantial body. You would probably come closer w/ a horse like the pure Egyptian Arabians of today...

The white are actually Grey or Cremello and there’s also Buckskin and Smoky Black Thoroughbreds, although Palomino and the rest I just stated with the exception of Grey are all quite rare in the racing lines. You’re more likely to find the “colored” horses in the sporting Thoroughbred lines which occasionally have a racehorse stallion bred into them but are mostly their own thing that constantly drifts farther apart from the racing lines, especially in terms of temperament. Black is actually pretty rare in the racing lines too, because the black gene is basically dropped at this point via popular selections that are proven racers. Most Racing Thoroughbreds are Bay or dark bay, then Chestnut is the next most common, and then Grey.
Chestnut Thoroughbreds tend to have the most stamina built into them, that’s not color related necessarily but seems instead more linked to the famous Chestnut Stallions who all shared/share that trait in the breeding history. Secretariat will come to mind for most, but in today’s lines, breeding Studs like Gun Runner, Speightstown, Justify, and Curlin are absolutely famous Chestnut Stallions that are continuing the tradition of Chestnut Thoroughbreds that build better stamina into their offspring…. Just some fun facts 😉

There are people who breed coloured Tbreds, they're derived from racing horses, as all Tbreds are, just not used for racing. Coloured horses definitely pop up in racing horses. I have two bay OTTBs, one is a Seattle Slew grandson, and the other's sire won nearly $1M on the track, I've forgotten his name. Both bay, both sweet tempered, and both love to work with people. I rescued them from an abusive trainer, and prevented them going to slaughter

Thoroughbreds were developed in the same area as the Cleveland Bay horse. Heavier, and intended for carriage hauling, but they can be used for anything. Terrific common sense and disposition. The English were geniuses at developing breeds of animals.
Both the Tbred and the Cleveland Bay were used to improve Warmbloods.

They are stunning, but when they are used as racehorses at such a young age, i don't like it, because they're still babys.😰

    • @lylakanan5439
      @lylakanan5439 ปีที่แล้ว

Agree!! They aren't even done growing yet and it really damages their bodies. I don't really mind horse racing, I actually think it is quite interesting, as long as the horses are not being abused, drugged, and raced at a young age, etc. I know there are a lot of bad racers though that treat their horses very badly...:(
