Years ago the relationship between my cat Aurora and I was becoming increasingly strained. I was traveling for weeks at a time and each time I came home, he was progressively more and more upset with me. On one particular occasion, the day after arriving home, I was a few blocks away from the house, and I heard a cat's voice above me on the telephone wire. A Crow was up there, mimicking exactly the same sad expressive meows and yowls that Aurora had poured out to me the night before! The Crow seemed fully aware of what was happening with us, like it was public knowledge..was the Crow calling me out on my shyte?
You have the tone down perfect! I'm still practicing. There are a bunch of crows where iwork, they recognize me, my car, and bring their new babies to meet me. (I feed them!) I'm trying to figure out what the sequences of notes mean. Like 5 caws, then 3 short caws, or 7 then 3 or 2. Have you figured out any of these? Their language is way more complex than they are given credit for.
This is exactly the sound my favourite crow makes when there's a cat nearby. (I transcribed it as "Fog in my book "Battle of the Birds by Korg the Crow "). If I chase the cat away, my crow flies above my head, cawing, as if he's taking credit for scaring the cat! @PoeMovies

@@PoeMovies I can't stop thinking about this one crow that rammed into my glass door at my old place. It woke me up from sleep. It broke it's leg off by the impact, I pet it a little, and it became scared and fluttered off balance, rounding my house, but nailed the corner of my house. I saw it in all these vines, very hard to reach. I figured I would let it rest back there, and a few hours later it slipped my mind, I let my cat out and the cat got it and I saw him carrying the crow across the yard. The cat was proud, but I still think aboiut how I could've helped that bird. It kind of hurts still for some reason😔 I think about it alot
@@ColinPierce don't give it too much thought. You had a direct view of the cycle of life for a brief moment. That kind of thing happens without you knowing every day all around the globe. Wonderful! I have a crow call, but now I am inspired to try your technique. I've been feeding and talking to our local crows for some time, and they seem to know me as friendly. Thanks!!
Richard Alexander if they know your voice keep it up. Sometimes cawing at them will send them off--they can be picky about it. I mainly caw to call them in and once they are in I talk to them.
Thanks, I'll keep it up. I had fed and watered an injured crow years ago that hung out in my yard for a couple of weeks while he recovered. I'm sure it was the same bird that used to come visit for several years afterwards, sitting on my fence by himself doing a funny thing like rolling his eyes that made them look pale, while making soft gurgling sounds. Nothing I've ever seen any crow do before or since.
Nice It's cool to see someone else who can do crow calls too. I spent 7 months living at Tibetan Buddhist community and we had raven's up there all over the place because we would feed them as they seen as protectors of dharma, so I learn to do raven caws (and other various noises ravens make like clicking and such) while walking the temple grounds listening to them in the trees. My coworker is on point with crow calls, I'd more of a raven fan. especially the black and white ravens!
I just wanted to let you know how my crows and I have been doing. Don't know if I mentioned before, but they're also one of my spirit animals. The other day, my crows left me the most precious gift EVER! So unexpected. Here's why it's so precious to me. Remember how I mentioned them leaving me their feathers? I have read that they like to collect things too. And that crows have been known to also gift something very important to them. I kinda figured their feathers would be considered something if great importance to them yanno. I still believe this. Anywho... After the passing of my mother 2 days before my birthday back in 2010, a very subtle soft rain came down. The Sun was still trying to peek through just enough. We were all on my sister's porch during this time. But after the rain passed, these small butterflies (white ones and blue, and blue was her favorite color) started showing up everywhere! We went to town and they were there as well! So we chalked this up as a message from her. Something positive. That maybe she was giving us a message of love or that she was still with us. Here the other day, after taking our pup outside to bathroom, I continue the daily routine of feeding my crow friends. And I noticed that they left me a small little yellow butterfly. Not a real one, but a trinket kinda thing with white edges on its wings. Slowly I picked it up, and thanked them. This brought tears to my eyes for obvious reasons. And leads me to wonder if somehow they know! Was this also a message from my mom? Idk, I hope I'm not reading too much into that. I do not believe in coinky dinks. But I do know that yellow represents friendship. So perhaps that part is a message from them. Making our friendship official? Idk. We are getting closer a little at a time.
If I was a betting woman I’d say it is all connected. I tell my kids to expect crows and butterflies when I die. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. We appreciate your open heart.
Omg mine left me feathers too. Is this a thing? I had no idea. They left their feathers right next to the seed cakes and tomatoes and a toy ball i put out for them.

I can't believe that sound came out of that sweet little face! Lol! That's pretty good! I work outside all day at a podium at a hospital as a Concierge and part Valet and I see and hear crows on a daily basis. My interest is trying to identify the different sounds and what they mean. And I'm not lying, last year there was a crow making sounds like he was trying to sound out syllables. It was the craziest thing. I don't hear that any more. Like your video.
I record crows in my area. I was in another area 45 minutes away from my place , the other side of a Bay. I heard a crow and I was wondering if it sounded like my crows. It did but the timing of the call was different. Then I realized that the crow was talking to a barking dog. The dog was responding like what I'm used to hearing from cows. This was on an Indian reserve in New Brunswick Canada. The dog was in a backyard, I couldn't see it, but I could see the crow up at the top of a tree. I should have recorded it. What a special thing to hear.
You are the crow lady! And I mean that in the best way possible. You sound so good. I just want some crow friends, I find them to be amazing birds. Thank you!
I love this thank you! Crows have been gifting me on a post by my horse's water trough, I guess for the water. Now I leave them snacks and wanted to learn to communicate and I came across your video. Thanks again!

I have watched this piece 3 times now. My overarching question? How did you record this and not breakout in rib breaking laughter. What a Crow Poker Face.
Well I watched some other videos and thought “I can do better than them.” So I made it-totally on a whim. And I realize how funny all of it is believe me but you’d be amazed how many people are as into this or more than me.
I really want to befriend crows. I love them so much. I have a little friend I call Jericho. He likes to yell a lot for food. I like to give him unsalted sunflower seeds and bananas.
Thank you poemovies, I just recently found out crows are really intelligent. And I also learned how to make them come in the morning for breakfast. Lol. Every morning for now on when I come home from work, I use the morning breakfast call and sometimes the crow call to feed them peanuts, lol
Awesome, I learned how to speak "raven" when we had some in my old town. Now, we have crows, I need to speak more to them in their crowspeak! thank you for this! I love the "guwonk guwonk" noise they make during the spring. they also make a "CHuff!" noise, when we're feeding them peanuts. And the rapid clicks. Corvids are wonderful.
My mother told me this story about her pet crow. She found it in the yard when she was just a little girl. The crow was just a little tike that was injured from falling from a tree. My mother nursed it back to health and they became friends. When she started going to school in the first grade, the crow followed her to school as she walked there. She said it would wait for her all day to come back outside the school building. Sometimes it would fly through an open window and land on a student's desk, often taking a pencil or something small it found on the desk, and flying out the window again. During recess one day when the children were outside, the crow flew from a tree it was perched on and landed on the ground at my mothers feet. My mother then described how "some mean boys" ran up to the crow, kicked it over and smashed its head in, then they laughed about it in my mother's face. I just wanted to tell the world about this story of my mother's pet crow. This was in 1940, when my mother was six years old.
Awwwww so sad im so sad 4 ur mothers PET CROW!!..that's sick stuff to smash an animal! Uhg an urrrggg!!! well hope u have a good day..an sorry again 4 ur pet crow!
Similar to what happened with butterflies at my daughter's preschool. I gave the preschool teacher two swallowtail butterfly chrysalises so the kids could watch them emerge. They did and one flew off, but the other fluttered a bit and then landed on the ground and a boy in the class stomped on it and laughed about it.
I just came across this video but it's amazing how real you sound doing this. I was laughing at first because I couldn't believe it. Thanks for the video!
Well I can tell you it works! Thanks for the lesson :) I work at a school and got a few kids to make that sound with me and low and behold we were chatting it up with 3 crows that showed up. Was an educational experience 🖤
I have had an affinity to crows my whole life. However, it isn't until recently that I have learned about how unique they are. I am trying to establish a relationship with some local crows to see if they will bring me gifts. Wish me luck.
Oh, thank you!!! I take care of 20 to 30 crows in a cemetary. I have a plastic whistle and I whistle too. I fill up the bird baths and I got a man to give me one in my own courtyard. It's huge and two magpies drink there but they did not yet learn to take baths. Very strange ones. They LOVE partly cracked walnuts and any nuts. Best to buy a lot when it is cheap.
During the recent summer, I woke up around midnight to hear my grey crow friend cawing loudly. I looked out the window and saw him standing on the green across the road, cawing at a very puzzled fox who was standing in front of a thicket. The fox eventually retreated.
You're good. I love it. I'm just starting to learn to call to the crows. I wish I could leave peanuts for them but in this condo complex they will stop you. I had sooo much fun feeding the squirrels and blue jays peanuts until I had to stop. :(
I live on a lake in western mass and I watched a crow lure fish they could easily pluck out of the water with some random bread I have 0 clue where they got it from. That was some super intelligent behavior and now I'm slowly learning just how smart these birds are. Thank you for your video even if it's 5 yrs later
Your vocal demonstrations are very good and your explanations are very relatable. I call the ravens where I live but I don't have the control or tone you demonstrate. Now, armed with your suggestions, I have a new practice plan. Nice work!
I thought this would be a demonstration with a caller device...I was going to listen to it quick like a pseudo podcast. Boy, was I shocked to tab back over and see her doing it just herself! Very impressive!
it gets easier over the years too. the weird part is how in-tune you get no matter where you go to crow communication. Everywhere I go if crows are communicating I hear right away and listen without thinking.
@@PoeMovies Yes, I know what you mean! each different group in their respective neighborhoods seems to have slightly different ways of calling to one another. And I'm getting very used to hearing my crew's language

I grew up in Michigan and learnt several crow calls, among them food, gather here, alarm, and a few others. When I moved to Washington state, I found the crows did not respond at all. Who knew crows had regional accents?
This is the video I had been looking for. Since crows are so very intelligent, I suppose there are rather complex things they are capable of communicating amongst one another. I wonder to which extend I‘ll be able to learn about that. So far, all I can do is recognize their fear when I give them peanuts - and the interest and attention they show when they see me (since they expect to maybe get a peanut). Also, I think the crows „politely“ make me aware of their presence so I‘ll feed them. 😄
Cool video. I saw a crow the other day digging in the dirt started making what I thought were Crow noises and it started coming over to me I throw my little shrimp I was eating on took it and flew away
When she made her first real caw I wish y’all coulda seen my face lololol. That was frikken fantastic I just got a HUGE crow couple in my tree finally and i have been communicating horribly with. So I want to hear you do the ‘Bawka bawka’ sound! Almost like a car locking sound. And the gurgle woooooooo wooooooo. I CANNOT wait to try these new sounds
They hate when humans try to caw like them. I've been calling crows for 4 decades. The new young pair living on my hill set up shop and has babies. They scolded me when I would try to talk to them by "cawing." I got scolded multiple times for "cawing out of order" or "shut up, you aren't making sense." Which, I was not, because I don't know how to speak crow. I obeyed like a good little pet human and find I only need to speak in my normal voice in English and they understand me fine without screwing with THEIR communication system. A few weeks ago I got scolded followed by, "Because I said so, " right out of the mouth of Issac (a neighbor young crow). Crows are a delight, much smarter than we think, and definitely understand human language. If you want to keep them as friends, just talk to them normally.
Judas Priest...you're good at this stuff!! I've got two crow calls and they don't sound as good as your natural voice...bad on me...I've tried to categorize their calls...and mimic them...1 caw...2 caws...3 caws...other combinations...haven't figured it out, yet.If nothing else, you are entertaining as...well...real good!
I started tossing the odd bit of dog-kibble to nearby crows when dog walking. now there are a couple (in 2 different parks) that will come right over whenever they see me playing with my collie and follow us across the park. If i tell the dog to lie down and stay and drop some treats behind him (tricky part is not letting the dog notice), one crow will walk right up to his tail to pick them up - so long as I back away about 5 metres. He seems a lot more confident about approaching the dog than approaching the human that brings the food. That shows great wisdom i think :) When the treats are gone he sometimes pecks the dog' s tail a couple of times- but not hard enough to bother him much. Does he want him out of the way to check for crumbs at the other end? or is it just playful curiosity? Usually there's a smaller crow hanging back and watching. I'm assuming they're a pair and that's the female? She's not so bold and only gets a treat if I throw them in two directions at the same time, otherwise he always gets there first. I wouldn't say my dog was laid-back generally, but pigeons , crows, ducks etc don't excite him - he can walk though a flock of town pigeons, but a wren giving an alarm call in the hedge - that winds him up!
Playful I'd guess and I bet they sense his laid back personality and dont see him as a threat. They can process memories/experiences and make choices like us.
I started practicing every day and immediately I saw improvements: All the people in my life started avoiding me starting with my coworkers, then my friends, then my boss. He fired me. Then my spouse left me and took the kids. My parents stopped talking to me. Now, the crows bring ME peanuts.

I also try to teach local blackbirds the 5-note "Close Encounters" tune... occasionally you hear something very very similar coming back from one of them. Thrilling!
Just remember that people are going to think that you are crazy. but if you really like Crows and want to have interaction with them? it won't matter if they think you're crazy, because in all likelihood the Crows are smarter than they are.
😂😂😂😂yepp
I cannot believe how much you sound like my feathered buddies! Thank you so much for passing along your observations and talent!
You're amazing! I was watching people use a crow caller and thought that was good. You taught yourself to sound like a crow without any gadgets. That's a real skill. :)
I watched a video on TH-cam and used the tips and tricks from it. I thought I would make a shorter more succinct one for everyone. If you practice every day you will get it.
If my neighbors didn’t think I was crazy before they definitely do now.
Lmao, yes, but that's nothing new to them 😅
Weird sounds are on the menu every day sometimes I unpromtedly make goofy impressions other days I start whisteling to the canaries my flatmate has and other days I'm practicing crow sounds
But I'm still to self concious to try the girl voice lmao
I've been feeding some in my neighborhood for a while. They leave me gifts sometimes. Quarters, nickels random bright objects. Playing cards lol. They are very smart and cool!
Thank you for posting this! I just sent your video to my husband with the message: “who’s crazy now?” 🤣 I’m constantly calling to the crows. Even my kids joke about it. But, in all seriousness they love them too.
I absolutely love crows ❤🐦🥰
I have a family of 3 that comes to my backyard every day and its such a treat to watch them eat peanut especially the ones in the shell.
There is a 4th crow that started coming around and the other 3 always made her leave....but she started figuring out when the others are not around then she comes and calls me with such a soft sound it warms my heart 💗🐦😘 I call her CoCo ❤🐦🤗💞
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Years ago the relationship between my cat Aurora and I was becoming increasingly strained. I was traveling for weeks at a time and each time I came home, he was progressively more and more upset with me. On one particular occasion, the day after arriving home, I was a few blocks away from the house, and I heard a cat's voice above me on the telephone wire. A Crow was up there, mimicking exactly the same sad expressive meows and yowls that Aurora had poured out to me the night before! The Crow seemed fully aware of what was happening with us, like it was public knowledge..was the Crow calling me out on my shyte?
Well, they are as smart as primates….
From what I know if the caws are an unbroken its a calm alert like caw caw caw, but if it's broken it's an alarm like caw caw then caw caw caw....
@ASEK33 c9p we do it's called a murder
@ASEK33 c9p I group of crows is called a murder
This is exactly the sound my favourite crow makes when there's a cat nearby. (I transcribed it as "Fog in my book "Battle of the Birds by Korg the Crow "). If I chase the cat away, my crow flies above my head, cawing, as if he's taking credit for scaring the cat! @PoeMovies
You are correct about the toasted unsalted peanuts. My crows can spot me walking
100 yards away and call their friends. I also annoy my neighbors.
Ooooh, I'm going to start practicing. I love crows!
MirExodus15~ I love crows too. I tried to nurse a nestling after he fell but he passed away after 10 days. I'll always love little Pipin.
I love them too! Love to shoot them!
Was a wee bit blue with the sudden demise of my French crow buddy, Frederique Texier. Young 55 and died in 6 weeks after misdiagnosis. Your lesson cheered me up and so pleased Freddy heard your instructional video before he joined all the other Crows in Peanut Heaven
fantastic replication
really liked this. Great job on the calls. I want a bird friend. So does my shoulder.
They are super super wary. Even when they know you.
Crows are very social. They mourn their dead. It is very likely that crow was mourned for. And perhaps it has already been reborn who really knows.
@@PoeMovies I like the way you think. You're right. It was kind if beautiful in itself. I kind of hope my cat ate some of it 😂😅 I've done my research on crows, & they are beautiful. I'm sure they did mourn it. Wasn't aware then, but it was probably noisy that day. And not sure if they avoided the area afterwards lol and I hope so. Live your videos. I'll continue to watch for sure!
@Two Genders Facts hahaha maybe, yeah.😂 But that's not much of a life for a cat. Lol he was just doing cat stuff. #fulfilled
LOVE LOVE LOVED your vocals!!! So realistic! Sometimes i kind of hide in store parking lots bc its embarrassing but i cant help it. I LOVE THEM
It's so funny because all of the crows around my house love me because I always give them peanuts 😂
Thanks for the tips! The sounds you made sound like the real thing. Best to you and your favorite crows!
Wow, such a cool story!
Omg mine left me feathers too. Is this a thing? I had no idea. They left their feathers right next to the seed cakes and tomatoes and a toy ball i put out for them.
Thank you! On my way to school, there is a specific crow in a specific place and we are now friends :)
That's sound making is amazing. Thanks for the vid.
basic black metal ; i doubt it'll help with communicating with crows
You are great lady i think you are a crow
Hi, Hege from Norway here! :D I tried to call crows after seeing your video yesterday, and a crow came after 5-10min, and after looking at me for a while, it took the food i offered! Thanks for a nice and interestning video!
THANK YOU for this tutorial! My neighbors officially think I am insane! LOL
Woman I love you! You seriously made me laugh histericly. Though I wasn't laughing at you, just from the joy of seeing your dedication.. You're a wonderfully talented and courageous woman. I'd kiss your hand my dear for your dedication to your craft. Love John!
I'm standing out here in a field trying to get some crow friends. I sound like I'm about to throw up and I think I'm scaring the crows too 😂😂😂
Keep practicing you’ll get it.
We are sitting outside and just found your video….we were playing it and both crows and ravens came to investigate. Thank you!!
@@johnbrooks8530 awesomeness!!!
Thank you so much! I love crows! You are so kind to share your knowledge, that's humbling! To teach others! The kindest of gifts!
Wow, just what I've been waiting for. I have a bunch of crows who get toasted, unsalted peanuts from me.
They're beginning to come closer. Many thanks for the lesson.
Now that's a good crow sound!
Whenever we go camping I crow call. I love seeing the curious birds fly in to see what crow sounds like it’s dying 😂 they are amazing creatures.
I do the same thing. My kids call crows camping birds 😆
I am very new to this, I want to start feeding crows and I though I would want to learn their call, I watched your video a bunch and managed to get a mix of a raven and a crow call. I was also able to have first conversation today! Thank you for making this video!
Banannas work OK?
@@dangatton7138 Crows can have fruit but they prefer peanuts and birdseed more. It all depends on the crow anyways

Thanks that is helpful. Our crow friends come without calling, they recognise us. They are now very relaxed with us.
Attempting to make some crow friends now, really great video! Your crow sounds are so on point! Thanks for sharing 🐦⬛
Thank you poemovies, I just recently found out crows are really intelligent. And I also learned how to make them come in the morning for breakfast. Lol. Every morning for now on when I come home from work, I use the morning breakfast call and sometimes the crow call to feed them peanuts, lol
Damn girl, you have definitely mastered the caw sound! 🎉
You have mad crow calling skills! I’ve gotta get to work. Thanks for sharing this.
I absolutely love crows, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about them. This is really helpful!!
I've always liked crows. Your calling is to cute, thanks
This was in 1940, when my mother was six years old.
sad ending but shows their affinity for humans. thanks for sharing.
Those little bastards. They're lucky I wasn't there. I would have strangled him.
What a brutal ending. There have always been mean boys. Sigh.
Wow your crow call is talent !!!
I have had an affinity to crows my whole life. However, it isn't until recently that I have learned about how unique they are. I am trying to establish a relationship with some local crows to see if they will bring me gifts. Wish me luck.
You have to give them gifts -- namely peanuts (unsalted). Peanuts are the key to a crow's heart.
I saw a crop of scarecrows hanging out at a crowbar with crows on their shoulders singing "The Counting Crows"
"Mr. Jones" song.
I came here to learn how to call Ravens, there's a bunch around my home.
Ravens are a lower more guttural sound and deeper.
I love crows. You cracked me up, and you're so good at it. I am buying unsalted whole peanuts now.
I love crows. Crazy smart birds! I can't wait to practice this!
awesome video. I'm going to try this, thank you :)
During the recent summer, I woke up around midnight to hear my grey crow friend cawing loudly. I looked out the window and saw him standing on the green across the road, cawing at a very puzzled fox who was standing in front of a thicket. The fox eventually retreated.
This helps when there’s a group of crows gathering on our tree
Hearing that crow call🗣immediately caused me to look around for The Creeper 👀 from Jeepers Creepers. Phew. Well done.
You're good. I love it. I'm just starting to learn to call to the crows. I wish I could leave peanuts for them but in this condo complex they will stop you. I had sooo much fun feeding the squirrels and blue jays peanuts until I had to stop. :(
Maybe there is a park closeby, if you get into a pattern, call them when you get there, theyll show up i bet!!!

LMAO I'm practicing and my dogs are starting at me 😂 pretty sure they think I've finally lost it lol 😂
I doubt I can even get their attention but it's worth a shot. Also you have very pretty eyes ms, thanks for the vid.
Nice work!
I love this. Thank you
I thought this would be a demonstration with a caller device...I was going to listen to it quick like a pseudo podcast.
@@sportosp-0158 the calls are one thing, then there's the clicking that is apparently unique to each flock and even possibly each little family unit. It's all so very interesting.
I grew up in Michigan and learnt several crow calls, among them food, gather here, alarm, and a few others.
When I moved to Washington state, I found the crows did not respond at all. Who knew crows had regional accents?
I love this crow lady
That was frikken fantastic
I just got a HUGE crow couple in my tree finally and i have been communicating horribly with.
So I want to hear you do the
‘Bawka bawka’ sound!
I've got two crow calls and they don't sound as good as your natural voice...bad on me...I've tried to categorize their calls...and mimic them...1 caw...2 caws...3 caws...other combinations...haven't figured it out, yet.If nothing else, you are entertaining as...well...real good!
holy moly my first video to see like this. I just started learning about crows today and this is amazing.
I love this video going to get started on my crow call immediately
Wow, you sound like you have an actual call. Very good.
